2021 U.S. Open: Barebow Women Gold Medal Match

They swapped the names in the first 2 ends. After this mistake, in the 2nd end Lakshmi shot 7+8+10=25, Gildenhuys shot 7+10+7=24. Instead of this, the scoring was Lakhsmi:25, Ghildenhuys:26. How on Earth?

I have been in contact with USA Archery since Sunday (*the day after the competition) concerning this matter. Please refrain from any further comment. Vijaya and I are awaiting an official ruling on this. *Edited for clarification on dates.

@@basildraws 24 September 2021. Thank you for your respectful enquiry. My request to reverse the results of the match was received by USA Archery. World Archery Rule Book 3, Chapter 17 and 19 dictates that the results of a match cannot be overturned. Vijaya and I, therefore, appealed to the USA Archery Board of Justice. The appeal was submitted on our behalf by USA Archery on 30 August 2021. The Board has judged that it does not have jurisdiction to consider changes to rules set up by World Archery. The matter has since been referred to the World Archery Constitution and Rules Committee. Vijaya and I have already exchanged awards. @@samanthagildenhuys8037 it’s certainly a miscarriage. I’m curious, do you have the support of the person or persons responsible for the errors? Has there been any kind of investigation regarding how this was even allowed to happen? Have measures been taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again? Clearly there’s human error involved. It seems like if that’s the case, then a human could tamper with scoring INTENTIONALLY, and no one would be able to do anything about it. It’s shocking really and puts a black mark on the integrity of the sport. I’m glad that the two of you are in agreement. Good sportsmanship. Edit: watched the podcast. You two (and Susan too) were lovely. I hope that your records do get adjusted “officially”, because that does matter. All the best to you both.

I can see the slight inconsistency in Gottapu's drawing motion and Mrs.Gildenhuys'grip on the string being a bit too deep to the point that it hurt her release so much in one or two of her rounds! I don't think I have a point, I just noticed them!

Barebow is a defined class in world archery. It has a specific set of criteria. Longbows have their own category in world archery.
