dude. I just found your youtube channel and I'm amazed! I'm learning to use a sewing machine and I'm very excited to try to make my own gear for cycling and bikepacking. Thank you so much for all the work you put into making this channel!

Pardon, why the patagonia Houdini AND the patagonia Storm10? And also why the Patagonia capiline base layer AND the Patagonia thermal weight zip-neck (another base layer)? Wouldn't the Patagonia r1 be better than the second base layer? I'm really asking, bc I'm trying to decide on my mid layer for my current clothing setup. I so far use the capiline base layer shirt and a down puffy. I need something for in between these two layers Thanks!
@zipworks3 жыл бұрын
The wind shirt is particularly nice to have above tree line in windy conditions because it reduces wind chill without overheating, unlike the rain jacket. Even though Patagonia calls the thermal weight zip-neck a base layer, I typically use it like a fleece - an active mid layer. I also have an R1 Air but I feel its way too warm for most conditions. If you are looking for lightweight mid layers I’d also look at decathlon, I think they have some nice options!

How could i overlook your fantastic channel for years?! Great videos, thank you!! I had a spontaneous thought (maybe it's even a challenge for you?) : the worlds litest and most minimalist backpack. What is the bare minimum? Does it even has to be a traditional pack, or is there another way, another construction for carrying many things comfy on the back? And: what would your absolute minimalist 3season gear list look like? How lite can you really go backpacking? 😁

Cool video. I have the same quilt. I'm feeling cold at +3°, what is your experience with this quilt ?
@zipworks3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Haven’t actually had it out in any cold temps yet, it is quite new. Lowest I’ve had it was 8C and it was warm enough. I also have the 150 and I think the rating on that was accurate, good down to 9-10

Do your hiking poles make rattling sound. Were you able to fix it?
@zipworks3 жыл бұрын
Worst thing about these poles is how they rattle. I find that it’s the top segment that makes the noise and that it goes away when it is fully extended. So I use like that, basically only extending the top part. The mod I did was to replace the handle.

Yo real talk I'm at 13lbs base weight right now. I'm only missing a good jacket(lost my 135$ marmot recently) and a Katadyn water filter. Other than that what do you think I'm 13.7lbs to be exact could lighten my sleeping bag tbh
@zipworks3 жыл бұрын
13 lbs sounds like a pretty solid loadout! Easiest way to shed weight is of course to spend $ on the big three but other that I’d say clothes is an area where it’s very easy to overpack. Good luck
@nickgerstenlauer41113 жыл бұрын
@zipworks Sorry! but three more questions if you don't mind! Why do you use a wind jacket, a rain jacket, AND an umbrella? And 2. Why do you list the weight of your shelter as 21oz when it says 12oz on their website? Is 9oz the weight of the half-inner? 3.Which inner do you use?
@zipworks3 жыл бұрын
No problem! Yeah, carrying both an umbrella and a rain jacket is a bit much. I’m a huge fan of umbrellas - they are so easy to deploy when it starts to rain versus stopping to take your backpack off and put on a jacket. An umbrella also covers your pack and importantly doesn’t lead to overheating like a rain jacket. That said, unfortunately in really bad weather the umbrella just doesn’t cut it, hence the rain jacket too. Thats’s exactly right, 21oz includes the 9oz inner. I’m using the half inner 🏕
