If you are in the market for a dual sport motorcycle, and you want something reliable, easy to maintain, & fun to ride then the Yamaha TW200 is for you. Since 1987 Yamaha has been producing this motorcycle, so parts for the bike, and used bikes are readily available. The motor on this bike is so simple to work on, and it will never let you down. I'm so happy I own one and if your on the fence about purchasing one, do it. You wont regret it!

I remember getting my first new bike. I was 16 and had worked hard for 2 years at a local dairy before/after school and summers. It was a 1974 Yamaha DT250 and I handed the money to my dad who actually had to sign the paperwork because of my age. The dealer threw in a new helmet. I rode it over to my girlfriends house and we had to beg her mom to let me take her for a short ride ( her mom hated motorcycles) I rode it to my friends house and then home. I got up 3 times that night and went out in the garage and just looked at it. Nothing like a a new shiny, motorcycle.

I'm 65 years old and I can still ride with the best of the young guys ! BUT When I crash it doesn't feel the same as when I was young! It takes me so much longer to get over my pains! The TW 200 is perfect because it keeps me and my wild hair from being stupid. So every time I go out and hit the trails I come back having the best of times But with no injuries. Not just for beginners I can make that bike Go anywhere!

This is an excellent bike. I find the negative comments funny because those folks have obviously never ridden one up the side of a mountain before, or want it to act like a dirt bike or trials bike. The thing is, the TW200 is a MULE, not a thoroughbred. It's slow and steady and stable. It will carry you, your buddy, and drag a sled full of elk out of the woods with no problem. There is a cult following for a reason, and that's because this little bike is just plain fun.
@MostroMoto

I couldn’t have said it better myself. It seems as though you either love it or hate it, and I definitely agree that some of the people who dislike this bike have never rode one. Or they compare it to something that it’s not. It’s an absolute tank, not The fastest, not the most agile, but it’ll always take you there. It’s super simple to work on, very friendly for beginners and makes for an amazing motorcycle / companion! 🌲 Great comment ride safe!!

It was base design as a beach bike. Whereby the big fat tyre doesnt stuck on soft sand, earth or ground if speed are constant. I do agreed it look like farm bike too. Cos in Australia like the U.S, farmers do uses atv, quad bike or even tw200 for some cos it not fast but it gets the job done. But we do ride suzuki drz as well though.

You don’t really need a kick starter because it’s only a 200 so just push it or roll it down the hill and pop the clutch. The thing is batteries and starter motors have come light years since the 80s. Reliability isn’t the factor it used to be.

Great video and shout for the TW-200. The TW-200 was my work bike for years. I was task with doing OVH trail surveys and erosion rating/mapping, etc. for Calif State Parks. My issued bike was a TW-200 with racks front and rear to carry gear (GPS, Camera, Measuring Tools, etc.). Great bike. It's what the Honda CT-90 grew up to become as an adult. The battery start let me down a few times, but run and bump works fine. Its uncle is the BW-200 which has ATV tires. They can be a handful in some circumstances. The TW is just right as far as cross-section compromise goes : )

So far I've added Tusk Handguards, IMS Superstock Footpegs, and the Tusk Tail Rack. Thought about making my own rack to save a few bucks, but at $120 for the Tusk rack, it is much nicer than what I would have made. Just hit 595 miles today, and doing the 600 mile service myself tomorrow. I also replaced the stock 50 tooth rear sprocket with a 45 tooth, which turned out to be just a bit too far. That will have to go up to a 47 or 48 tooth... haven't decided yet. She's not fast, but you'll get there... no matter where "there" is.

I'm happy they don't sell this in Portugal, otherwise I would buy it and at the moment I can't justify it. Had several big bikes but for the past 2 years I've fallen in love with small bikes. Light, economical, easy to repair and loads of fun. I just don't get the thrills from big bikes as I used to, mainly from power and also I don't travel as I used to. I guess everybody has it's own ownership cycles.

Outstanding review dude! You nailed every aspect of these bikes, and kept your video fun to watch also. I've had 3 TW200s now. 2 back in the mid/late 90s, and just scored another one recently.. The 'new' one - A 2013 w/ only 47 original miles on the clock, so, I felt the same way that you did! Breaking it in has been a pain, but, its still been fun. Up to around 700 miles now. This one's getting set up as a mini-adventure-bike. I'm a lifetime adventurer / photographer of the abandoned, nature, wildlife, etc. so getting out into the middle of nowhere is a must. When it came down to finding another bike, I almost grabbed a Grom to convert to an off-road rig, but, then came to my senses again. haha [I needed something that could also fit in the back of my Honda Element - And the TW200 'Does'] Anyways - I highly Highly HIGHLY Recommend these bikes - For beginner riders to advanced! I've probably ridden over 100 different bikes over the years, and the TW200s are one of my favorites! I'm compiling lists and pics of pieces and parts used to mod/upgrade my bike, and eventually [hopefully sooner than later] I'll be doing a vid and adding it to my channel / playlist.. Just waiting [im]patiently for my Clarke extended capacity [XT350] fuel tank to be made & arrive. Doubling the ride time in between fill ups will be Great. Anyways.. Great job again with this video, and most definitely keep em' coming! Like you mentioned, the TDUBs have a cult following for sure, so we'll all keep tuning in. 🤘😎 Sam -

DirtyDovi Wow, thank you so much Sam. I really appreciate the comment it brings a smile to my face 😊. That sounds like so much fun going out on your TW taking pictures and exploring abandoned places / nature. I will most certainly look into your channel and keep an eye out for that video! I’m actually really curious to see how that larger tank works out, I’ve seen some pictures of them online, and it looks like a good modification for the bike. It’s funny you mention converting a grom, I also looked into doing something like that. I saw pictures of groms with off-road tires and they looked pretty sweet. But practically they don’t have all the features a true dual sport has, but I’m sure a off-road grom would still be able to go on some more basic trails / fire roads. That being said the TW200 doesn’t need a road haha. Anyways I can ramble on and on about these motorcycles. Once again thank you for watching and taking the time to write that comment. I will definitely keep the videos coming! I appreciate the support, good luck with your adventures on your bike. And as always ride safe 🙌🏼🏔

@@MostroMoto Most welcome bro, and stoked to hear that! TDUB exploring and photography definitely is a blast. I've been doing that since the 90s.. Right now, in Upstate NY, I tend to stick around the Montezuma National Wildlife Reserve, and this other insane place I found called Savannah Dhu. Not abandoned, just super cool.. As for abandoned: I run "Abandoned In NY" on Facebook also, so if interested, definitely pop in and check out everyone's posts. It's an awesome group w/ great members! facebook.com/groups/AbandonedNewYork/ Clarke extended capacity tanks - While they're a killer concept and always seem to fit well, there's been a Lot of reports of 'blemish tanks' getting into people's hands.. Same location, IMO I think bad production-molds, but, only for the TW200 model/version. They're hit / miss. I've seen it w/ the black and the white variants.. While they're a bit bigger, I wanted to shoot for a Lot bigger, so, I went XT350 instead.. Those double capacity, and there are no blems. I also went clear/natural for the 'color', so I'll be able to see the fuel level at quick glance. And will probably mount a little LED strip on the backbone, so I can get the tank to 'glow' at night to help with the fuel level visual.. As for the Clarke XT350 tanks going on the TDUBs, they're a super close fit.. Front mount mod and rear mount tab mod is all that's really needed for a flawless fit.. And then maybe some side-plastics modding: Re-shape and/or low-mount. Mio has a great video of her doing the OEM XT350 conversion on her TW, and she does a nice little walk through for people that need to see how it's all done.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYHUnZaXZpmgeqs Grom conversions - Ah right on man, too funny! Yeah, throwing knobbies on em, and some other odds and ends pretty much turns them into little more than mini / pit bikes, but I suppose for just simple trail trips, they'd work.. That would have made my original plan to throw a bike in my Element, drive to location, unload and then ride to secondary locations - a lot easier.. But, as mentioned.. Only due to quicker loading/unloading.. Going the TW route was DEFINITELY better/smarter! haha Side-Note: I missed out on a motor swapped Grom on Rochester Craigslist that had a 250 Honda enduro motor stuffed into it. That would'a been fun.. You're not kidding! When Doc Brown from Back To The Future said 'Were we're going, we won't need any roads' - He must have been talking about riding his TW! lol I just saw your other vid about recommended gear to rid with.. Niiice! That one reminded me to SUB! I also spotted another comment and the guy is from NY.. You to were talking Ducatis.. We have Fred's Sport Motors in Syracuse - I used to go there a lot to drool.. Sweet Ducatis and Yamahas over there. Killer to hear that you're a fellow NY stater also! Hudson Valley area? Doood.. That's UFO hot-spot area! haha I also know of some caver/explorers out that way. Very cool place! Sam -

@@MostroMoto Yessir, I definitely went a little overboard when diving into all of the do's don'ts and possibilities for these bikes. I dig em' that much. [Good thing, that's how I found out about the 'issues' w/ some of the tanks] Exploring NY - Right on man, that's awesome! And CT has some cool spots too! My little sister and her husband now live there! Oh man, ya brought up the Catskills.. I explored Beaverkill, Fishkill, Sullivan County, etc. Lots of abandoned businesses/houses, communities, hotels, motels, resorts, you name it.. Even a castle! haha I/we got access to Dundas Castle in Sullivan County for a day's worth of shooting! It was insane! Checked out Grossinger's Resort - Before it was demo'd. Man, what an amazing area! One of these days - I'll seriously have to compile another consolidated list of places! Especially if you think you might be interested in checking some of them out! That'd be awesome! And on the flip-side, If/when I make it to CT to visit the fam, I'll be sure to let ya know.. I'm sure if I go, I'll bring the TW along with me! Oh! Another place - Look into "Fort Hero" aka "Montauk Air Force Station" - The place is insane! [Same goes for the legends/stories that surround the place] Hey, welcome, and thank you too! 🙂👍 Sam - PS: The places I mentioned in the Catskills - I did a ton of still photography shoots while there.. The photos are in albums on Abandoned In NY - on YT, and I think I also threw them all into a slideshow, and uploaded them here on my channel.. I'm anxious to go back just thinking about it again! 😀

I bought mine new in 1992 and it still runs great with 2000+ miles now in 2021. Riding in loose deep sand is my thing. Sand riding makes the handle bars wobble crazily and the faster you go the more wobble because the front tire grips the loose sand. Leaning back as far as possible and griping the handle bars tightly is the best way to ride and race other vehicles in the sand trails. That fat back tire is why I practically won all the money I paid for my tdub at Pismo Beach back when I bought it 😊. I can beat any other sand vehicle conceivable with my 1992 TW-200 it is designed for the sand and it is the "Sand King!"😆

Sounds like my 99 KLR 250. Dual sporting is awesome. I have had a couple Yamaha's and for what you are using this bike for, it is ideal. Definitely get yourself some bark busters. Not to be confused with the brush guards. My 1st bike was a Yamaha 100 enduro. And I wished I had bark busters back then. Would have saved me dozens of clutch and brake handles. Geared it down for hill climbing mostly. Top speed was 35.. ISH. lol For dual sport of this CC range, 65 MPG and up is right on par. IF you are going to put on accessories, check for spare fuel can rack system. As for what you said about no kick starter.. I agree 100%. Enjoy.

my first motorcycle was a Kymco Venox with a 250cc carbureted engine in it. Now got a 14' Stryker, i dont know what it is about the smaller engine motorcycles but theyre so much fun to rip around on. Super forgiving when youre really on the throttle cause they dont have tons of power like that, getting a sportier standard motorcycle this year and just might splurge on a TW200. Rode it once at motorcycle school years ago, it was fun

Hey I’m not to familiar with those bikes I’ll have to Google them. I actually rode a Tw200 in my MSF course as well! It’s so much fun and like you said very forgiving! If your on the fence about getting one I say do it haha

I had an 89 TW200, and I beat the absolute crap out of it for years. It still ran like a tank when I sold it. Now I'm thinking about getting a new one since it was basically indestructible. I really don't like the fact that they did away with the kick though, because the electric start was the only part of the bike I ever had a problem with.

Hey, so to start off... you know you want one... so you should totally get one hahah. Also I agree 100% with you. I wish they kept the OEM kick starter on the bike. I know you can buy the parts & install one but having it straight from the factory would have been really nice. They add to the reliability of the bike, essentially making the bike purely mechanical not relying on any electronics! Thank you for watching & great comment. But yeah definitely get one 😃🌲🏍

Hey now! Sorry to sound dumb but if the ignition is glitchy ( & no kick starter), can't you just push the thing along & jump on to fire the engine? Classic jump start? Been years since I rode I'm thinking about buying one of these to putter away in retirement haha

I’ve had one for almost 3 years , I also own a Suzuki V Strom and a DR 650se , honestly I spend more time and have more fun on my TW . Although if I had to have only one bike it would be the DR.

The Tdubs is a great second bike in my opinion. Having the Dr for longer trips and adventures is great. Then taking the Tdubs out for smaller trips. I’ve been looking at a DRZ400 😅
