For me it's so close to literally every game he starts fresh, he doesn't any think at all whatsoever when he starts a game but then he goes and beats A20 all characters slay the spire etc and I pog. I've realised the trick is to skip ahead maybe 30-50 episodes of things like this until either he's good or he's way better than me as a beginner so I can't notice the misplays

Protip: make sure to sacrifice or kill the stoat in every fight. It actually won't help you in any way but you have one less backseat gamer and also it makes him angry.

@@huckthatdish I'm talking about the experience for new players. I haven't watched every new player play the game, but the ones I've seen have failed to abuse packrat. (You'd have to gain 3 items back from packrat before making back a full stock of value, and even then it's without the choice of item) Note that I'm talking about very new players, who still need to explore the game's options. As you learn more about the game, you can choose to optimize your plays, but for a new player the learning experience is important.

Made it 8 mins into the video before I was actually pogging so hard that I had to go buy the game. Spent the next 6 hours straight playing it and then came back to finish the video so i could see some of NLs reactions to some of the cooler parts of the game a little further in. Some valuable tips for you. If you haven't already rushed ahead and recorded dozens of videos on it. Squirrels should not be used as shield walls, and if you can't get a meaningful play out.. don't waste a squirrel when you can get another one next turn and spawn a 2 cost. Monsters only attack if they're during the turn of the owner. Otherwise they strictly defend. The campfire can offer HP or DMG I reccomend always buffing the stoat/stinkbug early with DMG.. -theyre both super useful early on. The shrines that add sigils of sacrificed creatures can add additional sigils EVEN IF the card being buffed already has one on it. Anyways that's some stuff. Hopefully you'll have discovered it for yourself though

The first tip is wrong. Coming from someone who has finished the entire game with one loss, squirrels and vessels are great chump blockers as long as you're dealing more than you're taking. NL showed that off in this very video. (While making a bunch of other misplays, but he was right about outpacing the enemy.) Generally, you want to chump block with a squirrel if you will win next turn, or if waiting could end up killing you. (Usually this is because you have a airborne or spoilers creature.) Like this for example: |2/4🦌| | 1/1 _ | |3/1🐍| |2/1💀|

@@mawillix2018 I beat the game as well. The point I'm trying to make for NL is as a new player, it's not meaningful for him to drop squirrels to soak very WEAK attacks. When he has no easily deployable cards this early in his save file. Nor does he have the totem to make that strat viable. NL is gonna take a bit to digest this game, hence why I tried to point out some simple tips over dropping him stats and examples of combat. But he mentioned himself already, he has a predisposed way of thinking about card games (MTG) and he employs that mentality here alot.

The tutorial is not scripted. The first candle loss is, but the 2nd can be saved and you can get up to the 2nd boss. At 2nd boss it will autokill you during the boss fight saying too fast too soon.. Jesse Cox pulled it off without even knowing it lol.

Ah, you think that the 8 bears are an automatic loss. But the game actually gives you one turn to beat the angler still, so as long as you can deal 5, you win. I did this on my first run. The same is true for the trapper, actually, I would like to say that this makes the trapper easier, but it's about the same anyways. On the "final" boss, the game doesn't even try to cheat you out of your win anymore.
