This is a very special presentation by long-time BMN member Ian McArthur.
Ian has hiked portions of an old route overland between Squamish and Coquitlam several times in the years since 1993. In the early years when “The Fool’s Gold Route” was relatively passable, he hiked its entire length two times.
Ian’s presentation will describe the route as it was then compared to the route today, and in the intervening years. It’s an interesting story of how logged areas continue to undergo surprisingly rapid change in the decades after logging has ceased. His presentation is also the only way that most of us will ever come close to experiencing this vast area now preserved within Pinecone Burke Provincial Park.
Please note that this presentation will run longer than most other presentations. Ian will start his description of the route on a logging road outside of Squamish, and head south to Burke Mountain.
