Yes funny Jim.... think I will do all my jet ski videos in the driveway and just stay off the water.. hahahha. My subscribers are smart... a couple had been asking me for a couple of months and I did not think it would be useful to many... evidently it hit the KZbin algorithm as You Tube is pushing it out to about 5-6 times more people than normally! I appreciate you saying the channel is one of the best jet ski content out there...that motivates me to continue to film and edit when I could just be skiing... after watching this video again, I had a stock yamaha battery like you and mine lasted almost 4 years, because i used a trickle charger that keeps the battery charged up and doesn't over charge it. Once the charger reaches a full charge it holds the charge to the top line of the battery and doesn't go over it. Thats why my cheap yamaha battery lasted so long. 😊

Bob. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS like this one, and the others. I’ve been binging! Our house in Cape Coral on the salt water canals is under construction as we speak and my wife have two 2022 Yamaha VX Deluxes on their way to our dealership here in Atlanta. When we move down there, I want to go to many of the same places you visit. And if by chance we could all ride together sometime, that would be great. We’ll message you when we get down that way to see if you’re ever interested. -Mike

Mike: first thank you watching the videos and I am super happy you find them helpful. The ramp location is always in the written description for each video. I would love to come down and explore the Gulf Islands around Cape Coral once you get settled in… the one time I was down there I heard east when we crossed Florida and did not get a chance to play in the Gulf. Just email me using the address on my you tube home page when you are down, settled, and have your bearings. Bob

I have a VX Ho with the same engine and you are right. I try to keep it under 6000 RPM to get the best fuel economy. Most of my riding is done in the ocean and there is so many things out there that you can hit as well as the rough water that an SVHO is pointless. Slightly more power/top speed with more fuel consumption and the added expense at the pump makes it an easy choice. Especially with the fuel prices here in Canada. My buddy's SVHO costs well over $200 to fill.
@BobBroeking

Great review!! I just sold my 2016 Yamaha VXR that had 212 hours on it, and it got great gas mileage, however my next purchase will either be a 2022 Yamaha FX HO or a 2023 Yamaha FX HO. I believe the HO engines are just more reliable then the SVHO's and I don't have to worry about supercharger clutches or having to run 92 octane in the ski. After seeing your review i'm just looking for a relaible, Big ski that gets great gas mileage and cuts real well through the chop and has more storage than my VXR did. :)
@BobBroeking
@BobBroeking 2 жыл бұрын
Great to hear! I agree that the 1.8L engines are reliable, proven, and not complicated engines. Sounds like the FX will tick off many of your requirements! A friend got a 21 VX when they came out but the lack of storage would not work for me plus the FX handles big waves much better. THE SLICK COAT CAN GET DAMAGED REAL QUICK BY DRIVING UP ON THE SHORE . THE ROCKS AND SAND WILL TEAR RIGHT THRU THIS COATING . BUT IT IS GOOD FOR EXTRA SPEED . I PAID 600 FOR MINE AND THEN I HAD TO REPAIR THE NOSE THAT MADE CONTACT WITH THE BEACH . TURN YOUR SKI AROUND AND DRAG IT UP ON THE BEACH . SAVES THE HULL .

What's so crazy now is dealerships are selling used jetskis such as 2015 and 2016 yamaha FX HO's with anywhere from 80 to 140 hours on them for $16,000 to $17,000. That's $2,000 to $2,500 more that a 2022 yamaha FX HO. It's actually better to purchase a new 2022 yamaha then a used 2015 FX HO.

I'm recently looking in to this fun sport, I currently do not own a machine but when you mentioned that valve you installed so the motor won't flood if you need a tow do the owners manuals talk about what to do if you need a tow or is that something you figured out on your own and would I need to set something up like that? Also considering the VX models as they have the smaller1049cc motor, you said the sweet spot for good mpg is 35 mph, how much better gas millage do you think I would get over the 1800 cc FX's Oh and I've read a VX will probably hit about 52MPH..your thoughts? Great site BTW I liked your trip going through the locks! Cheers
@BobBroeking
@BobBroeking 2 жыл бұрын
The owners manual says when you tow the watercraft keep the bow out of the water and do not tow it faster than 5 mph or you risk flooding and damaging the engine. I would find any towing situation to be very difficult to meet wither of those standards and that is why I installed the valve. The only thing I would say about engine size is the 1.8L engine is known to be pretty bullet proof. I get 6/6.1mpg on my FX Cruiser, an friend on his 21 VX with same engine routinely got 6.2/6.3. I am not sure what you would get with the smaller engine... that would be a question for those owners who have one. The new VX with the 1.8L engine is faster than my FX... indicated 64 mph. As I mentioned I am not a speed demon but I would want to be able to do 60 to beat a storm, etc... Hope this helps. Bob

@BobBroeking

No is the short answer... I rinse my trailer down after all outings, salt or fresh but extra careful after salt... as I mentioned in the video I also get my bearings serviced annually but they are sealed. I also always check by hubs when on long high speed trips to make sure no grease can be seen leaking out or they are not over heating. So not problem so far!

@@coopgang187 He is asking about the safety spout out the rear. That safety visibility spout has nothing to do with the engine and is a specific safety feature on Yamahas.....It merely redirects a portion of the output of the jet flow through a small hole to form a spout. I have a a valve on it to turn it off/on as desired. I think you are referencing the lower side spout where the engine cooling discharge comes out.

I have the same ski and use it for the same purpose, long-distance riding. I'm not a speed freak but I like to explore and find new nooks and crannies. I typically cruise around 5500-6000 rpm, I find the engine and ski is really happy there. I don't notice any big difference in gas mileage going 35 or 45 mph, it's more about how rough the water is and what I feel like.

Boat Test tested the Fx Ho and the numbers match mine pretty close, mine has a little less top speed but maybe Boat Test got a "perfect ski" for review. But from the results you can see almost no difference in mpg between 5000-6000 rpm and that's been my experience as well. I like to cruise at 5700 rpm, the engine sounds nice there :)

Well Ray this is a timely question because tomorrows video is all about gas and refueling. First thanks for watching my videos and I am glad you have found new places by watching them. That stretch of the Ocklawaha is beautiful been there a couple of times and an up coming video we ride a segment of that river again. We carry extra gas for self sufficiency and to eliminate the need to buy gas on the water for crazy inflated prices. Anything close to 80+ miles and you usually see one can on our skis. I have run out of gas going 40 mph on the Suwannee River with no marinas and was able to get to shore and refuel and keep going. The racks allow us to also carry coolers and other things. I have demonstrated twice how to fall off your ski when reboarding with a rack if you do not take your time…. You are right…. Hahahaha Again this next video is for you tomorrow morning at 0800! I'm new to PWC, and am now looking at a 160 Ultra Kawasaki. I like the heavy fiberglas V hull design. But, I like the Yamaha 1.8 HO engine better than Kaw's 1500 cc powerplant. The low gas warning is another one that is causing a lot of people issues... in my 2020 model I can mute any alarm anytime it goes off and the gas gauge, even with a software update, is not great so having the ability to mute an alarm is key. The BEST part about a tear in the seat, you have an excuse to get custom seat covers to make it different from everyone else’s at a glance from a distance (and much cheaper than a custom paint job or wrap)! Wow, I pay less for insurance (also Progressive) on my 18 foot skiff with 50 horse Honda outboard….. but I don’t know if I have the tow package (having a Honda means I may not know for decades)….

That is the way to look at it! :-) You must be in the seat cover business?! I looked at that tear this week when I went out and it has not gotten any bigger (yet). I have progressive through USAA so maybe my rates are a bit higher and I do have Sign and Glide seatow. I don't insure anything else with progressive so you probably get a bundle discount. Compared to what may say I thought my rates were low. And this is for full collision and comprehensive. Thanks for watching!
