I still got the predator Helios 300 2019 model 4 years and half and still runs great the main issues I faced is the battery after like a year or two battery started degrading really fast and gpu fans sometimes making weird noises managed to get that fixed but other than that it’s working great

I didn't get paid. If you compare this model to 2020 and 2021, you'll know the past models are shit. Battery Life, obnoxious gaming design, bad temps and frequent bsod. A lot of reviewers don't recommend the Helios 300 and rather pick the Nitro 5. But now, Helios is a good recommend to evereyone who can't afford a Blade 15 and want a better alternative to Nitro 5.

I have 2018 version and looks wise this is a big upgrade, screen resolution qhd - great! Better temps no need to keep my i5 9300h at 3.6 with throttlestop, better placement or cable, great back design... But man, 2 hour battery life with 320 nits screen is just omg, i do a lot of programming rather than playing games nowadays and value resolution and being able to see the screen in living room with huge windows and balcony door, my wife acusing me i'm a vampire but hey i can't see sh*t😆 Would not choose it for studying/work again, need better option with battery life, enough nits and resolution, 17 inch even better.. for gaming? I wonder how this stacks up against new msi's and lenovo, love that it has some nice features and looks, better keyboard etc

You can keep the 9300H at its stock frequency (4.1 GHz) and just modify the prochot temperature using throttlestop. I’ve set mine to 88 degrees and I’ve repasted with kryonaut extreme. So temps are in check and CPU runs at max clock speeds while gaming.

@@ass5kickin thats a good option, i used the kryonaut too, but kept it locked, with prochot at 88, it runs around what, 85ish degrees? I valued it being cool rather than behaving like a jet XD

Sounds like you should look for a creator branded(marketed) laptop, they are more geared towards creators rather than gamers but are still capable of gaming, they provide better battery life, better screen quality and brightness, better keyboard, quieter fans, a more simple not standing out design, those are the basic things that are differet about creator laptops compared to gaming laptops. Gaming laptops tend to ignore all practicality and just put as much power into graphical performance as pssible to get the best gaming experience, this is ideal for creators.

Based on my October 2018 Acer Predator Helios 500 experience. If you get this laptop, purchase a set of fans right away. So that down the road, you don't have to search for a place that sells new ones. So you don't get surprised by the auction website price.

I loved my 2020 predator helios 300 but when I switched to my asus rog strix I noticed that even though I went from a 2060 on my helios to a 2070 on my rog strix, it was more than just the slight bump in performance, it was nearly double the performance, and that I think is because of the thermal limitations of the 2020 helios, and the lack of a mux switch, normaly the 2070 seems to be about 30% faster than the 2060, they are headed in the right direction now but have a ways to go to get to competition level.

@@charlieobial1602 it been fast and steady since today. I havent experienced any lags. Ive used it on my online classess, computer aided design, video editing and many more... the only problem with this monster laptop is it is heavy and not easy to carry for long distance travels.

I'm confused, cuz everywhere i go to look for this model, it visually looks different to this one in this review. I mean on the Acer website (at least in the UK) it has the big standard Predator logo lit up on the back rather than this muted version. Are there different versions in different regions?

As a professional laptop reviewer, I think it is your utmost duty to take care of the laptop hinges and open the lid in the correct way so that people don't get negative influence from your videos. Look at 3:34 how he closes the lid from the right side and the panel is literally bent. This will destroy the hinges in terms of longevity and you'll be finding replacement hinges in no time. Just open the lid with one hand from the middle and close with both hands from both sides or use one hand in the middle for equal distribution of force. I have been noticing this for a lot of time and it makes me feel uncomfortable so I couldn't resist myself from commenting. Hope you see this Matthew.

Got this laptop and im loving it I speant nearly 20 years playing fps i can defiantly say that the competitive edge you gain using this laptop is just outstanding the overall well-built monitor and low system latency mixed with high frames and low temps while gaming, i really recommend investing is such a gaming machine

I got an Acer Predator 300 in Jan 2022. I really like it. It has a QHD 165 Htz screen which is really nice. I like having the extra SATA drive, but the larger battery is the way to go, I think. Was that machine 17"? Looks like a nice set up to me. Mux switch is nice too. Will it take 4 TB M2 drives? I gather mine is limited to 2 TB per drive. (But 3 drives.) Cheers

Fans are super loud, would suggest to wear headphones all the time. Laptop gets warm but nothing too scary. Trackpad is good but not the clicking buttons or keyboard.

Have Helios 300 with 3080 and holy the temperature while gaming is always ~93°C. Its been like that since I bought it. I feel liie it should be doing a little bit better. I regret buying it. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Maybe, some "reviewers" need to learn to type. Not to excuse cheap key design, but If a number pad causes you so much trouble typing, that it take you two hours until you feel comfy. Then maybe it's time to stop playing games for awhile and practice your typing skills. So Acer, don't get rid of the number pad, let them plug in their favorite USB keyboard instead.

I think it's really difficult to make good speakers only apple did it in laptops other companies not so much! I use dell g15 performance and all are great but when it comes to speaker I still prefer headphones.

In case you didn't notice, it's the same chasis design as the the Acer Nitro 5 2022 but more metal. I do think it looks slicker and the GPU performance is admirable. I do wish for slightly more CPU power for FPS games like CSGO and Valorant but hopefully some other reviews will tell otherwise and I do wish I can find a 17 inch version of this. But overall, this looks like an excellent machine that competes with the likes of Asus TUF and Strix plus the MSI Vector series. Definitely an improvement over it's past 2 predecessor.

Wound up returning both units. After using the Cherry MX keyboards on the Alienwares, membrane keyboards feel weird. Just waiting for the right model to come along in a 15" form factor from any manufacturer at this point. :) Will probably wait til year's end.
