2022 Aprilia RX125, Old Guy Update

An update on the 'Great bike/Poor bike? video by the old guy. Here's a few of his modifications.

I think the extra long stand on enduros is so that if you stop on soft ground it can sink in an inch or two and still stand upright. For indicators, there are aftermarket mirrors that have an indicator on the back of them, facing forwards to traffic, with leds facing the rider that flash through the mirror itself. I have a set on one of my bikes, they are very effective.

Hi Chris, I've had lots of dirt bikes over the years, but I've never had one where you have to lean the bike well over the other way to get the stand to clear the ground before it gets fully in position. It's just poor design. It's a nice little bike, but it's like it has been created by someone on a computer who doesn't even ride a bike. With a bit of thought there's lot's of areas where I could make this bike a great bike. The frame, airbox, fuel tank, side panels, are all over engineered to the point of ...'Why?' I'll have to look up the mirrors with indicators incorporated. Can't say I've ever seen them on any road bike. Cheers mate.

instead of that bulky external signals you could make your display backlight blink synchronized with the small dash lamp

Ive got an rx 125 and also and older rider, your right this bike it quite heavy, the seat and suspension are quite tough , im glad your seat mod pleases you, i doubt its going to catch on though for style. Great engine though, very punchy , has a nice sounds too. I dont have too many comfort problems , but i dont do very long journeys.

Hi, It's a good job I don't worry too much about the looks of the bike, without doubt the seat looks pretty horrendous. It looks fine when I'm on it, because I'm covering it all. It's when I park up It gets some strange looks. I might try and make a fibre glass seat base and create something that looks like the norm ... if I've got the time. As you say, nice little engine though.

I’m thinking of getting one for green laning and just for fun. When you ride off road standing up, is it comfortable? Are the bars high enough so you can stand up tall? I’m only 5ft9 so not quite as tall as you!

Hi Pete, The bike feels like a full size enduro bike so the layout is pretty good - that's why I went for it. If it felt a small bike I wouldn't have bought it. Even for me and with the standard low rise bars it feels fine so I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine with it.

I got a yamaha wr 125 r and I don't know if I should trade it for an aprilia rx really don't know what to do .

If they did a more comfortable aftermarket seat for these bikes i would buy one.

It's a pity Aprilia isn't like some other manufacturers where they give you a choice of say, three different seat sizes, low, medium and high. A bit more width is also needed for extra comfort for road users. There are aftermarket seat producers out there, but they're missing out on a good opportunity here with this particular model of bike.

do you reccomend buying it ? I will use it on the road and in the forest riding, and i need a good strong bike. And im choosing bettwen beta rr125 4t, so which one do you recommend ?? (i dont really like te sound and i would probally change exaust if would bought aprilia, and aprilia is also cheaper)

Hi, I wasn't that impressed with the Aprilia to start with, but through more time on the bike I like it a lot now. The engine has got quieter (no rattles) and is quite potent for a 125. The brakes are excellent and the bike handles well. The only thing I really don't like is the weight. It's far too heavy for a 125. If you're in the forest and get stuck in a rut or a boggy bit you're going to have a hard job manhandling it. The weight feels like a 500cc bike from 30 years ago. Compare the weight of the Beta to the Aprilia. If the weight difference doesn't bother you, the choice is yours. Exhaust pipes are down to the individual. Some like the noise, some don't. Either way, it's not going to feel like a 450 by changing the pipe!

I checked out the Beta. It weighs approximately 25kgs less than the Aprilia. That's a huge difference. That's why it costs a lot more, because of the materials used to make it that much lighter, frame, swinging arm, exhaust, etc.

@@suffolksquitter2268 sir im very gratefull for answers, but just one more question, does the bike preforms good on the road-asfalt, or is it shaking a lot? And if you ever rode a supermoto (aprilia sx125) and if it is a lot better on the road, or it isnt that much better than enduro?

@@ozbejimperl3188 The Aprilia is fine on the road, no shaking. Just as smooth as a normal road bike. Haven't been on a SX. I would imagine it's a bit lower, and with the road tyre's would handle the bends a lot better. But I'm sure you'd be happy enough with the RX. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hi Julian, I like that! Actually not a bad idea, perhaps a flattened spoon might have been easier. I originally made a template with cardboard to get the right angles, then cut out some ally sheet to make the support. Not the greatest piece of work but it does the job.
