2022 Be The Match INSPIRE Award Honoree: Suleika Jaouad

When Suleika Jaouad was only 22, she was diagnosed with MDS and AML, and has since received two blood stem cell transplants. She’s a New York Times bestselling author, prominent speaker and creator of a popular newsletter and community project, the Isolation Journals, joined by over 120,000 people from around the world. That’s exactly why she was chosen to receive the inaugural Be The Match INSPIRE Award. Suleika’s vulnerability, honesty and eloquence as a cancer patient and transplant recipient is an inspiration to patients (and their caregivers, family and friends) who are in need of a blood stem cell transplant.

My 29 y.o. son died from AML in 2021 after he relapsed after transplant. They couldn’t get him into remission for a second transplant. I’m too old for Be the Match, but I’m in the testing process for donating a kidney to a good friend.
