My only advice to anyone trying to pick there first class is to TRUST YOUR INSTINCT! Pick the class that when you first saw it, you said "Whoa! That looks so fun!" Pick the one that you just love the style of and will enjoy playing. The strength and power of classes is changing all the time, often new activities or areas may be released that a previously weaker class will be top tier at. But the one thing that won't change is that if you're not enjoying the class you're playing, you won't be having fun no matter how strong it may be. Some of these classes might be near the bottom with PvE and PvP, but they can be some of the best in the game for lifeskilling! With Seasons it is quite easy to try out an alternate character at a later point, so just pick what you like to start off so you can get familiar with the game first. As always, Anders has elite guides on the classes as well as all the new content that is being released, so if you're new to this game definitely make sure to subscribe to this channel. Enjoy!

i did this long time ago in Warframe and i pick Nyx, in beggining she was weak...but after a time i make her almost immortal in high lvl missions

Worth noting that Nova is an incredibly easy and forgiving class to play as your first class. Both Succession and Awakening grind well, they are both super-safe, and their inputs are very easy to learn. I recommend it to new players who are less interested in the PvP aspect of the game and just want to get into PvE.

I don't think Nova succession is a good class for new player because succ has hp/mp issues (skills drain hp/mp too fast, so player need to have a good hp/mp management). Nova awakening is good tho, less SP needed compare to other classes

@@DzNutz503 Lahn is a great starting class. She's easy to learn, her required APM is perfectly reasonable, she has great mobility, and she's powerful enough in PvP that people likely won't mess with you.

Was just wondering when you was going to release the next class guide lol. Great video yet again Anders! Also, for new people, I implore you to PLEASE play the class that looks/feels the best to you. It’s better to make sure that you play a class that you truly enjoy instead of going for what’s meta because you will be grinding for hours with that class. You don’t want to be playing something you don’t enjoy just because it’s meta.

This ! I swapped classes around so much and rerolled according to ''meta'' about 8 times but i never had fun grinding in any of them even though my heart stayed with maewha. In the end i rerolled to her and I never regretted this decision till today.

I always love having your class guides for whenever I get back into the game, or introduce new players into it. I will say I’m a bit sad that you got rid of the “stars” as they were a great visual reference for new people to look at and get an idea on what the classes excelled in at a glance.

I will bring back the stars soon. I have a star tier list for all classes right now, but we are having so many changes atm plus awakening drakania not releasing till later this month, felt it was better to hold out and make a dedicated tier list with stars where I just go over my thoughts in a longer format video next month. Not really a beginner guide, but more of an "intermediate" guide I guess is the best way I could call it.

Although Drakania is a bit slow and I love high speed high damage, which is why I chose Sorceress for my first class. those attacks and visuals are really tempting me now to learn how to play around those slow attacks and have fun with those giant lightning and fire attacks

Sorc main for 6 years. First one I ever made in character creation. First one I ever played. She experienced heavy nerfs years ago, but has since risen up the ranks in both PvE and PvP with the introduction of Rabam Skills, Core Skills, and the fairly recent class updates. I freaking love this class. Not because she is in a good spot right now (top tier PvP high skill ceiling and varied combos / lots of little tricks and animation cancels, respectable, but combo-centric PvE). Even if she is nerfed to the ground, I will still main her (I did this for a few years when she was weak). But it is for how this class feels to play. No other class "feels" like Sorc...her button presses, her focus on precision-based combos, her trickery, animation cancels, i-frames on demand, and overall aesthetic is simply the best in my opinion. Please know this is just my opinion and I respect anyone who truly loves their main. Sorc just happens to be mine, she's been for 6 years and I will likely never reroll. Even if she's bottom tier again. She's a bit weird to get used to at first because she feels so different to play. But once you master this class and get some gear, you'll be hated by literally everyone. She has a few bad matchups in PvP, primarily shield classes like Valk and Succession Nova, Musa with their high amount of protected damage, CC, and superior mobility, and are naturally weak versus Guantlet classes due to their innate Magic Evasion, but she is a great in all aspects of PvP. In 1v1, she is one of the best. In small scale, I feel is her specialty..able to flank well, skirmish on the sidelines, and mix it up in on the inside of blobs with her i-frame invulnerability and pressure with Crows (Cartian's Nightmare) and GRJ (Grim Reaper's Judgement). She always has been, and still is, one of, if not, the best "1vX" (1 versus multiple enemies) in the game. She is very squishy, however, despite having innate Evasion stats. But this allows her good build variety able to do well with either DR or Evasion based builds. Very versatile class and succeeds with a group-disruption and "assassin" playstyle for PvP. She's great at killing backlines, but can mix it up in the frontline as well. Sorcs tend to be hated by the community, and I can see why. When a Sorc is good, they're almost impossible to get CC'd and can do ridiculous damage when she catches people. This class, however, it is very easy to see a good Sorc from a bad one. Her abilities are very "deliberate"...meaning, unlike newer classes like Guardian, Awakening Striker, or Drakania, the margin of error when playing her is considerably lower due to only protections being i-frame, where you don't do damage, and the vast majority of the Super Armor and Frontal Guards keep her stationary and have cast times, meaning, she'll easily be grabbed during these (Swirling Darkness, GRJ, Crows, Soul Reaper -- all stationary and out of i-frame). She's gotten easier to play after reworks, but IMO, she still requires a high level of execution to play well and stand out as a "good" Sorc, especially as one who fights against other high level PvPers. SORC 4 LIFE.

I agree 1000%. First class I ever picked and been my main ever since, however I am loyal to the Succession version. Arguably weaker than Awak for PvP but has very similar power level in the right hands. Very satisfying to play. Maybe one day I'll give the old Scythe a real try ;)

I want to add that currently succession guardian is preferred for PvE, especially in higher end spots. It outperforms awakening but does require more situational awareness as much of the damage is frontal unlike awakening where the damage is mostly all around you. There's a very large stigma around awakening guardian because of its ease of play, however there currently is more players that are starting to pick up succession for pve purposes.

Really great video. You were concise and pretty fair. One thing I'd add about Archer he's right up there movement wise with the top classes. PVP might be a issue but he clears PVE really fast. You can get many kills /he with that class which can help you zoom thru Guild Quests. I can't wait for the Wukong class but I hate you compare him to Tamer. Man hope he's wasaaaassay better lol. I have almost all the classes and I'm going on year 3 on PSN. It's been a journey 😉. I'd advise anyone new not to rush things just enjoy the process of learning the game. And btw don't depend on any guild that won't matter much to your fulfillment honestly in most cases it's you and you alone that will get things done or not.

Coming from WoW, I love the Death Knight style. So in BDO im going to try Nova or Dark Knight, as they are as close to plate weilding magic users as you can get. I love the Mage-knight archetype.

If you’re a beginner and thinking about leveling fast, I suggest you just pick Maegu for faster PVE, as she’s the best in grinding and farming right now, but if you want more of a sustained game, I suggest you pick Lahn, Primrose or Drakania. Just don’t pick Shai, it’s useless. 😂 But if you’re more focused on PVE and Arena Battles, go try Yacha and Titan.

Just downloaded the game since it went FtP and this helped quite a bit, I'm thinking of starting as a Lahn since I generaly prefer having high dps and mobility in games like this though Corsair and Nova seems good too

@@AndersGallar i love archer but its super sweaty for PvE and there are angle issues with the terrain in spots that cause you to miss some big hits, but super fun to skate around. Agree about Archer outfits. I feel like Shudad is one of the best for Archer given his choices. Even the other class outfit he gets with the special boxes are meh. Meanwhile Striker, Musa, Zerker and Warrior and Ninja all have a lot of good looking options.

Always hated how nobody gives Mystic it's light of day in such videos and it's just mentioned for the sake of saying how much better striker is overall. Here is more info from the players' rankings: Succession: S/S+ grinder on normal/evasion spots respectively. One of the best duelist classes being a natural evasion counter. Low popularity in massive PvP Awakening: Lacks 1v1 potential but is looked for in smallscale sieges and upwards. A tier overall, preffered by Mystic players for its low skill entry over Succession that requires quite sometime to learn.

If you are new and want the best class BDO has to offer, go for Corsair. IMO the best class they have ever released, her theme and playstyle fit so fucking well together. Playing awakening Corsair literally makes you feel like you are flowing on water.

I been playing BDO for a few years now on and off. I went through so many classes and some I still didn't try till this day. Tamer is the class I play best funny enough. Yet I kept hearing people say she was weak in pvp back when I first started. I don't PvP to much. I'm more of PvE player and grinder/gathering to sell stuff on the market. So I figured I get myself a good pvp class to learn. I ended up grinding mystic to lvl 36 and then stop. Like I said, I play on and off. But funny enough I do have a main class that I would never had got to lvl 55 if I listen to people. And it's the Shai!😅😂 I love her playstyle and easier for me as well. I made like 3 Shai characters but kept deleting them and finally stuck with my 4th one. Trust and believe me people. It does take a while to get use to certain characters due to how they play and move in combat. You will create, deleted, create, and delete characters many times till you finally get the right one you like! So don't listen to anyone and play the class you feel is best for you!😊 Tamer for overall play. Shai is my highest level character and my main for grinding. Mystic I'm still learning and for pvp as well.

Drakania master class: while (almost) everyone finds her slow as hell, her succession has quite a good flow once you get used to the combos. Can't wait to try out her awakening!

Then nerf succession after awakening’s release. People switch to awakening and it’s found to be OP. Nerf it into the ground. Drak players roll off as now their class is useless

I am actually having a lot of fun on archer this season, but I know he supposedly under-performs in late game and pvp according to what I hear. I kind of wish PA would figure out how to better balance the classes because I know archer/ranger have been this way for years... either way, I'm gonna stick with him. Succ sage is not for pvp thoe unless your doing largescale/small scale.. but really fun class.

Each class has two combat styles. Awakening gives you a second weapon you can use alongside your main weapon with new skills and a different combat style. Succession keeps your main weapon and empowers the combat style you've used from level 1.

Hey Anders! Nifty guide, thanks for making/updating it ^.^ I watched hoping to pick up some tips for Shai, but was a bit disappointed that Shai's video section was mostly cutscene shots and the stock class video, while most of the others looked to contain pretty decent combat demonstrations. Kinda left me feeling like the vibe was 'Effective Shai combat: if you're playing Shai you're probably not playing it for being combat effective'. Only been playing a few weeks, and I play slow; just did the shai 'awakening' for the instrument - it feels like it's just not practical to *use* it in solo play though (I'm just here to explore, quest, craft and play dress-up with costumes, so I've never grouped ^.^), am I'm missing something, or is the sol the kind of thing you can only effectively use when you have team mates to protect you/draw threat?

Recommendations for new player. I've played around with new classes and really like musa and hashashin and mystic. Rn I've been playing musa the most but I've heard of his lack luster performance in high endgame spots. Being a new player though I've been playing with what is fun so any advice for other classes to try around musas style? Or any advice for if im going to go with musa?

Currently, I play Black Desert Mobile, but I plan to start playing Black Desert Online, when I replace my recently dead PC. I watched this video to see what classes are recommended on BDO, compared to BDM. When talking about classes, I don't recall any content creators mentioning the Phantasma, the awakened Dark Knight class. Is this class not available in Black Desert Mobile? If she is still a class option, would you please talk about her strengths and weaknesses, etc. Thanks.

Man I really love the flashiness and blood style design of ninja, but I enjoy playing female characters for looks. But sadly Kunoichi is just toooo far apart with poor animation effects, aoe and that chakram from awakening is so boring and repetitive... Whyyyyy

Well, lahn certainly require less APM than ninja(Which can be said about pretty much any other class too lol), but it's not "Spam violation" bad) Plus she too has incredible mobility with her dashes and flight. I really suggest to check her out, make a prem. Char (or a sesonal when new season is out) and try it.

I play : awakening Dark Knight, good in pvp , good in PvE, not much mobility and doesn't have a grab but got a lot of forward guard so you can survive a lot in pvp if you know what you're doing. Awakening Lahn way more mobility, has a glide , has a grab , good in PvE , good in pvp , not as good as DK in larger pvp fights and dies more easily in pvp due to less forward guards Shai pretty much lifeskiller, you can bring all the sheeps together dead with one of her skills , good for gathering, has extra weight so good for cooking and processing too, has a skateboard skill , my main lifeskill character. Maybe one of you guys can help me decide. I'm not worried about min/maxing as much about playstyle and fun. I started playing again after a hiatus, and made a Guardian since I loved the brutey look and axe, but I hate how slow she is. Which other classes give off that powerhouse vibe without being a snail (besides berserker lol)? I was considering doing Hashashin or Dark Knight but making her look tougher 😅 Side question: since when are there so many cutscenes? 🤣 Last time I played you just went quest hopping and beat the tar out of mobs...

You can make one and see if you like. There is no downside to leveling classes you like to 61. You have 6 free slots to begin with. I would recommend waiting till next maintenance if you are on PC. December 14 is when the new class comes out and the new Season which will greatly boost your new characters.

I know at least Awakening Sorcerer wields a scythe, but then you'll have to level her up to 56 before you can accept the Awakening quest line. If I recall correctly. Other than that? I don't know, new to Black Desert too O.o

Hash is better pretty much all around, but is very sweaty if you wanna get the max potential out of him.

@@marcorossoni7425 Hash has better PVE than sage at pretty much any spot. Only Problem for him is stammina at infinite potion spots or centaurs but has great damage and AOE for mid game spots (like orcs), where you will spend most of your time in BDO. Early game just play the class you have fun with, any class oneshots mobs at polly forest or valencia, and these spots are great money now.

Ok so I want to get into the game. Im a PvP player however and I want to avoid endgame PvE as much as possible. Do I really need to spend like 95% of my time in PvE in order to even progress in PvP ? I also love to play support in basicly any game, so what classes are recommended for me outside of what seems like only real Support Class Shai ( I dont really like the aestethic of that class, otherwise that would be my go to ). Maybe someone would be down to give an answer, thanks !

If you started a few years ago yes, you'd have to grind the living hell out of PvE just to stand toe to toe with the endgame players. But in recent times they've added a TON of helpful quests for new players that can eventually even give you a free full set of PEN Boss gear (PEN being the final enchantment level), although like with most endgame bits, it does take a decent amount of time- but far less time than it'd take you to PvE grind your boss gears. They also have pvp arenas with balanced stats that disable gear stats, so that you can enter matches and fight people 3v3 without worrying about your own gear score. Bdo pvp is one of a kind, and there's a lot of opportunity to get your hands bloody. Support I would say is kind of weird in PvP, since most classes are suited to fighting or defending yourself. Valkyrie has a few abilities that can provide a bit of healing and defensive stat boosts to party members nearby, there's probably a few other classes that can too but I myself am mostly a fighter in bdo's pvp scene. I personally use Ninja. If you would consider ranged offensive as support, Wizard/Witch/Dark Knight/Archer (Super crazy) are all pretty good at dishing out some heavy ranged damage. Although Dark Knight is more on the in & out Assassin type. Imo if you find yourself a nice group of players, especially if you're all super into pvp and just casual duels. It's enough to outweigh the chores of having to do anything PvE related.

Succ kuno is currently unplayable, the nerf to her stamina consumption and removable of stamina Regen in skill animation has made her almost unplayable. If you enjoy having extreme asthma then this is the class for you. Else, don't pick up succession kunoichi for those who are new
