Whilst the new model looks fresher, it has awkward proportions, with a bonnet/hood that is just too long and flat for the car. Some of the details don’t work for me either, The headlights look too small and the grille too wide with odd triangular shaped air intakes beneath that don’t go with any of the other details. I’d say the new car looks best rear three quarter view. Don’t have an issue there and I like the new rear lights. Interior is probably better overall, but has too much ‘bling’, though I like the look of the new seats and the door card design is neat. Love the purple colour. Overall, I’d say it’s one of BMW’s more successful recent designs and looks more muscular/sporty perhaps, but it doesn’t make me want to jump out of my F22 M240i anytime soon. I remember when the F22 launched and I was like “where do I sign?!” This doesn’t have the same feeling for me. Sorry BMW.

Old one had too feminine rear quarters. They just couldn't give it a little sportly flair not even a little bit, everything was reserved to entice buyer to overpay for the muscular M2. New one rectifies that with sporty flared arches, but ruins everything else, and has grown to 3900LB which is absurd for their "smallest" two door "sports" coupe.

@@idokwatcher2062 It's classic BMW styling, but I agree about the fenders needing to be a bit more aggressive! Definitely prefer the F22 to this new design for sure!

@@idokwatcher2062 Yes, The rear haunches are probably the worst aspect on the F22. Visually there seems too much metal above the wheelarch, making the wheels look smaller than they actually are. I think this is a factor of it being a sister car to the F20 1 Series and sharing doors with the 3 door hatch. I agree the new car does look more muscular, to the extent that I wonder if the M240i and M2 will share panels to cut manufacturing costs? Don’t like the little plastic extensions on the new car when you option the bigger wheels. It looks like an afterthought.

@@BPR-IronCurtain Each to their own but for me anyone who genuinely thinks the G42 is a better looking car than the F22 knows nothing about design language. You probably also like the front of the new 4-series. They're ugly cars with no elegance whatsoever.

I think that Bmw has exploit current design to max. There is nothing that thay can do to keep current design and look fresh. So thay had to move away and try something new. Eventually people will get used to it and bmw will continue to develop from there. Unless dark Bangle period happens to them again :)

Tbh I think the interior of the newer one is much better. However, in terms of sleekness and design language, the F22 is better. But I don't believe the G42 is ugly, it has a much more aggressive and masculine design.

The new M240 is actually a 3 series, it uses 3 series chassis. No more real 2 series.

Need to see a head to head. I’m sure my 2017 m240 beats the 2022 0 to 100. 200 kg lighter and 365 bhp - not the 335 it says in the spec .

@@ArmandoXIII it’s 365 bhp actually. From the crate. I’ve had it dyno tested. BMW deliberately gave an under calculation to protect the M2 sales.
