We went on this boat in Southampton and fell in love with it. The form of this boat is perfect for us and it's set up for single-handed sailing. It's a gorgeous boat.

I would love to sail on of these from France back to Sydney. It's small enough to manage easily and comfortable enough for a decent voyage. Would you do long adventures or day sailing with it..?
@Sailing360 Жыл бұрын
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife definitely long adventures - expecting to pick up one of these for live-aboard / traveling.

Just did 450 NM offshore on this catamaran and definitely would not recommend it for anything than cruising in sheltered waters in good weather. Slamming is a big problem on this boat on speeds above 5 knots (even on small waves) and protection from elements at helms is poor. Probably ok for easy cruising close to the harbour.

That’s interesting… where did you go from and to? Were you sailing into the weather or with it..? Yes helm protection is obvious so that’s something any owner needs to decide if they will do more long cruising or day sailing. I’ve also sailed this boat offshore in large seas but they were long wave period so no issues for us. We tried it on all points of sail. Short wave period I would understand if you were going into it the boat would slam.

@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife It was on a passage from Sardinia to Ibiza last week. Indeed, lot's of sailing close to the wind, but also some downwind sailing. Big waves with longer period were less of a problem than smaller waves that one often does not even notice until the boat slams into them (or rather from them). Maybe this is a common feature of all catamarans of this size, I cannot tell because my previous (extensive) experience was with bigger cats and they definitely did not have this slamming problem, not even close to what I have experienced on this passage. It feels that this boat is just very light and any acceleration causes it to jump out of water on a smallest of waves and slam.

@@awanderer9000 ok yes. I'm on Mallorca right now and was waiting for that weather to blow through until I could film again. There was a little bit of wind here and those waves would have been super uncomfortable on that size cat. The hulls not long enough to skip to the next wave so you would have been dropping into the trough on some of those short and sharp waves we saw here on Mallorca and the slamming noticeable. Probably the most uncomfortable conditions you could find to be fair. I would rather be out in the Pacific than what we had here last week. I've owned a smaller cat than this in the past and she would do the same.

I really want to love this boat but, The FP Mahe 36 evolution was the height of pocket cats(sub 38 ft). 11000lbs, big roachy main, thin hulls, foam core, and the # 1.. all lines lead to a mid level-(Protected)helm that has 360 views with all 4 corners visible.

No sunbathing for me, she looks great for independant cruising. Yachting and archaeology. Some interesting geology over where those trees are clinging onto life, looks like subsidence rather than any rising sea levels. Looks like a flooded river become an estuary. I need to dive into Ice Age Australia.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
Yeah totally agree i'd love to do a bit of tropical cruising on this boat! Yes we had flooding rains that week so you will be seeing some of the runoff from the rains making it way out to sea.
