i really like that sentiment. it paraphrases the rudyard kipling poem perfectly! "If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too: If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, . . . Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And - which is more - you’ll be a Man, my son!"

Went back to episode 1 and have been entranced ever since. Have loved every minute of it. Love the world outlook of the two of you. Loved how the kids have grown. So envious of the places you've been that I've not but thankfully a lot as looked familiar (Europe, Seychelles, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand). Have the song on my Spotify now and the first time it popped up randomly I can't even describe the actual physical reaction I had, the feeling of happiness thinking I was going to get to watch another episode. It's been a joy to watch all of these. Beyond impressed with what you've done

There was a fellow sailor on a cat that made that route maybe 10 years ago. He was a dentist from Arizona I believe. He addressed the stresses on the boat (especially cats) with speed. He dragged a line behind the boat with various things (junk) attached to slow the boat down and minimize speed. I wish I could find his site again. Anyway he also had a segment with huge winds on the Red Sea.

When I was in the Navy that passage there around the horn of africa was by far the worst minus the few times we were out in a hurricane. We even refueled while underway just north of where you are. The supply ship lost steering control at the bridge and was about 8 inches from running into us when we broke away. Great sailing folks! I enjoy watching your videos every week. When the emergency hatch leaks it’s because there is torsion forces at play. This means that your bulkhead have start moving. You maybe have got the classic catamaran problem with loose bulkheads. Those show up after prolonged heavy weather where torsion forces are at their strongest level.

This is great to see - I spent five months sailing in that part of the world back in 1998, and this brings back a lot of memories (most of them, but by no means all, good). Got blown off an anchorage - flat calm to over 40kn in just a few minutes - and chased along the coast for 36 hours, surfing swells almost all the way to Yemen, slightly scary and very tiring but also exhilarating. Beautiful part of the world that's probably more risky, politically, now than it was then. One of my greatest-ever marine memories is a couple of hours sitting with legs dangling over bow in bright moonlight, watching otherwise invisible bow-surfing dolphins making trails through the phosphoresence off the Hadhramaut coast. Socotra is insanely beautiful, and ecologically amazing both on land and underwater. What a fantastic experience of the world for your young people, too. Thanks for this, and well done guys on getting to one of the greatest remaining beyond-the-back-of-beyond parts of the world.

It's always a good idea to stuff the hatch with towels or any physical barrier to stop the flow. You can also pump the water into a bucket. You don't want loose water in the boat. Hi & greetings from southern California! New sub! Your family is SO brave to be out on the sea surrounded by the beauty and mystery. I would never ever do this because I'm terrified of waves and sharks so I am shocked and amazed at the same time. Although I do feel like I'm on this journey with you now! Your boat is beautiful! Safe travels! 😍

I spent some time looking for your rough seas before I realized… that was rough to you. I don’t wish to take anything away from your experience but I feel obligated to tell you that it gets much worse. You are doing a great job of avoiding weather and keep up however you do it! Good talk, Dad, about staying calm. I hate the leaky hatch. Beautiful family, smooth sailing!

I would have to disagree with this. A good captain is responsible for the crew’s safety and the lack of life jackets during those rough seas was very irresponsible. One day your luck will run out.

Great vid! Very well done. I can empathize. We had a terrible night passage off the South coast of Haiti a few years ago. Seas were about the same and on the stern. We DID, however have wind only in the 20s to low 30s. Nevertheless the winds and seas were both abaft and we were fighting between broaching if we steered to far to port or jibing if we were steering too far to starboard. All night long. I had charted Isle da Vache off the SW coast of Haiti and by morning we were on our way to the best protected anchorage I have ever seen. We intended to lay at anchor there for a day and then continue on to Jamaica. But we were so exhausted and we liked the island so much that we just stayed there for 4 or 5 days. There is something very uh ...fulfilling about taking on such a challenge and overcoming it like you did.

it only takes one rogue wave and everyone might be in the ocean, why not put your safety gear on just in case? As fast as the current is if you get separated from each other someone might be lost..

This is what they talk about regarding how these adventures will one day affect the kids. They are learning calm, learning respect and order, all needed in situations like this. Kids growing up living their lives on the Internet in their basements will never have such enrichment. These are the kids that will grow up to have anxiety issues, need Xanax and be clueless in emergencies. Keep up the good work zatara, ignore the naysayers who say things like depriving your kids, bla bla bla. This is REAL life adventure and education, the real one that will forever shape their lives. There will always be time for formal education, right now THIS IS LIVING LIFE.
