70 km from the closest river but the highest rainfall ever recorded in the Tharbogan/ Lake Wyangan Catchment in the 12mth period has caused severe flooding at the worst time possible, just before grain harvest. Previously 2010 proved to be a very wet year with recording 799mm for the year and had a very wet end to the year with 318mm recorded for Nov - Dec 2010.
Next came 2012 with a very wet start which 380mm fell in the first 3 months causing widespread flooding not only in this catchment but the surrounding areas of Griffith and Yenda. That year however tapered off and finished with 607mm for the calendar year of 2012.
The year of 2016 provided an exceptionally wet winter/ Spring with 530mm rainfall falling in the growing period of April - Oct 30 that caused flooding as well. That season did tail off closer to harvest and although troublesome all grains were harvested. Total tally for 2016 was 691mm
2022 has proven to be next level starting wet with the tail end of 2021 with 142mm falling in the back 2 months (Nov/Dec) Then January '22 recording 201mm. There was a slight reprieve with February not recording a drop of rain. Rainfall however ramped up in March, April May with 81, 58 and 94mm falling leading into a very wet winter. August, Sept and October didn't let up with 75, 94 and 184mm falling respectfully. At time of writing, it is fair to say rainfall records will be smashed for 2022 and it will go down as the wettest year recorded in this area. We are all just hopeful that we will be able to harvest something.
