No doubt Ford unleashed a whole new kind of performance truck when the SVT Raptor arrived for 2010. The 2nd-gen Raptor entered for 2017, more capable in many ways, but with a twin-turbo v6 instead of a monstrous v8. Well, now it’s on to the 3rd generation. So, let’s see what surprises Ford has in store this time!

I love the Raptor, but I still like the exterior styling of the previous generation a little more. It's still a beast though with a nice interior.
@jmin8400
@jmin8400 2 жыл бұрын
So do I, in owning multiples of all 3 generations currently. When I first saw the clay model and CADs for this in early 2019, it confirmed how I knew we couldn't do much with the basis being our more subdued P702 F-150, already signed off in 2017. Our last generation P552 F-150 was much more inspired, as it's easier and cheaper to stamp the simpler sheet metal of the new design. Signed, Ford PDC engineer.

@@jmin8400 Cost cutting does make sense with everything being done to scale especially with this chip shortage. I kinda thought the present grill should've been an evolution from instead of to, but the interior still looks good and it's not a deal breaker either.
@jmin8400
@jmin8400 2 жыл бұрын
@@dohc1067 The final styling decisions for the 2021 F-150 were completed on November 17, 2017 and for 2021 Raptor, in December 2018, so it wasn't the chip shortage, but our sagging stock price and my former boss Jim Hackett, trying to increase it faster in the short term, by cost cutting as you said.
@jmin8400
@jmin8400 2 жыл бұрын
@@dohc1067 In terms of the interior, I'll say we couldn't budge on that and allowed next to no compromises. Especially when the P702 team found out about DT RAM's interior design in 2017, before final sign off on final P702 interior buck in early 2018. I only like a few aspects of my new 2021, but vastly prefer the design of my 2019 Raptor. It's more minimalist on the interior and lean and mean on the exterior. Whereas our newer design, feels a little watered down and "safe". Still own a high mileage 2010 6.2 SCab as a desert build and a 2014 Special Edition SCrew for multi-purpose uses, down south in desertland TX/NM. The 2010 6.2 is beaten to hell and still keeps running at 231k, while the '14 at 56k is more on pavement than dirt and runs well. I noticed that my 2 V8s (P415 OG SVT Raptors) are extremely agricultural feeling compared to the aluminum Ecoboost 2019 and 2021 trucks in terms of build quality, materials, and fit-finish. I keep the 19 and 21 up here in Bloomfield Hills MI, since they are daily driven to work in Dearborn. Thus, a lot less punishing on my commute. I think everyone will be more happy with this truck, by the time the refreshed P702 MCA we are working on, hits dealers by the end of next year as a 2024. We've already finished designing that as of several weeks ago.

This has to be the worst, most biased review of the new Raptor out there. There’s nothing wrong with the 3.5 high output motor. Anyone that has driven it cannot say it’s underpowered. It’s plenty fast for all situations, while not the best gas economy, it’s not getting 6-8mpg like the unnecessary TRX. Who drag races pickup trucks? Either way, it is an absolute truth that the Raptor is better looking than the Ram. Much more versatile as well. And by the way, the gen 3 3.5 motor is tuned to be faster than the gen 2. They have raced both in stock form and the gen 3 wins every time.

@Scott Golimowski exactly! Compared to a trackhawk, the lightning is slow. You're coming around. Knew you'd see it my way. (Psst...the lightning was a 2 valve 5.4 V8...not a 5.8😁).

@@steverichardson7417 Imagine spending 70-90k on an offroad truck when you think it's street performance should be competitive with street vehicles because you're just interested in it as a street vehicle because it's big and looks badass. If you're buying a Raptor you're either buying because you need an offroad truck or you're just buying it as a mall crawling small pecker compensator of a street vehicle.

Yawn. I've got to be honest, I'm really tired of the geometric shape of the Fords. Much prefer the TRX with the nuanced curvature

The TRX looks like they used the Gen 1 Raptor as their design model. So many styling similarities. Gen 1 was the best Raptor.

For decades now, this guy talks wayyy too much. Let us hear the car once in a while when you're talking about the active exhaust, for example. Maybe part of the reason why some random youtube Auto channels who aren't that informative have two and three times the amount of subscribers...?
