The F150 got an upgrade in 2021, bringing Ford's new Sync4 media screen, the option for Ford's hands-free Blue Cruise and a few other great options. There are a few great new highlights in the 2022 model including the option to get the engine Stop/Start feature removed, bringing back the black appearance package and more!
In this video I dive into the F150 Lariat and highlight some key differences of the truck, along with 1st/2nd row space, bed dimensions and everything in between.

This is my DREAM truck. I am here just pipe dreaming. I sold my truck to pay for my son's eye surgery. I am a Combat Disabled Veteran. It sucks being stuck at home. I would settle for a beat up 1980's F-150 just to have something I could use to take my son fishing.

I was due a new F150 last year. But never will I pay the insane prices. I have bought about 10 new F150’s in last 25 years. But if the crooked stuff stays like it is now I will never buy another one. Full size trucks have been the most profitable vehicle of all manufacturers. That’s why they could discount them so much and still make huge profits. Plus I don’t know how any average person could pay the prices on trucks. If people would just stop buying right now unless absolutely necessary this crooked stuff would end. I will drive my 2018 until it is completely worn out and then rebuild it snd keep driving it before I pay the crooks what they want
@CarsWithSteve

I doubt we'll see prices get lower as labor and material costs continue to climb. Yes they're profitable for dealerships but if you're a Ford shareholder, employee or your employer has pre-negotiated discounts (X Plan pricing) you're eligible for discounted pricing Agree with you to hold off on buying if you don't absolutely need to, especially with the chip shortage and dealers not willing to negotiate because of lack of inventory. New drivers, businesses expanding and trucks being written off in accidents will always mean trucks will have to be sold. Nothing wrong with driving it until it dies. I've had cars roll over 250,000km before I considered something new

The black package was removed because appearance packages are used to increase sales on model years without major updates. That’s why it’s always good to buy the last year of a gen. The bugs are ironed out and you get cool appearance packages. You just don’t have a “new” vehicle for long.

Thanks!! Getting a truck when you don't need one can be a bit of an easier buy because you don't have to worry much about the specs. Reliability is great - like any vehicle just make sure you follow the maintenance schedule. The Lariat is a great option, Tremor 402a High Pack is a close second to get heated/cooled 1st row seats. Brief mention of the 7.2kW but that's a really good point. I should cover that off as well when the truck has the PowerBoost. Thanks! The 3.5 Hybrid only has the option for a 30.6 gallon tank . The 360 camera is great, I love that you can integrate another camera on the trailer into the screen. All 2022 models will have the 4G modem, so they'd support remote start through the FordPass app!

Hi Steve. This was my favorite video of yours as it is perfectly on point with my situation. I have a question that I cannot get a satisfactory answer from many dealers, Ford customer service, and online chats. I hope that you can help. I am in the process building a factory order Ford F-150 Lariat, 4 x 2 SuperCrew cab with a 3.5 L ecoboost engine. I intend to pull a boat and trailer that weighs 7,000 lbs. On page 21, footnote #2 of the 2022 RV and trailer towing guide, it states, "Do not exceed trailer weight of 7,000 lbs with only the class 4 hitch 53b, without the trailer tow package 53a." The question that I cannot seem to get an answer to is: What does the trailer tow package 53a contain that allows the truck to tow more than 7,000 lbs.? Everyone answers this question by simply repeating the items that come with the package, but no one seems to be able to tell me what specific physical item(s) on the truck is different that enables it to tow more than 7,000 lbs. Do you know? Also, is it not true that regardless of the package, the f150 class 4 hitch has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000-lbs and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs per the label on the hitch? If this is true, then I guess I need an aftermarket hitch to tow my 7,000 lbs boat and trailer. Thank you.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Laura! Great questions.. First, based on your build you'd have a max towing capacity of 11,200/11,300 lbs assuming either the 3.31/3.55 axle ratio. If you upgrade to the max tow package you'd be at 14,000 lbs max towing The lower max towing in Ford guides (5,000lbs, 7,000lbs etc) is based on weight carrying vs weight distributing hitches and the necessity for trailer brakes as the trailer weight goes up. A weight distributing hitch will distribute the load across the trailer/truck axles so that the rear axle of the truck isn't overloaded. If you look under the truck at the label on the receiver you'll see the max gross trailer weight, max tongue weight and ratings for weight distributing vs weight carrying. You shouldn't tow more than the stated limits on that sticker. So in your scenario, make sure you're using a weight distributing hitch and you'll have no issues!
@laurazavatkay2782
@laurazavatkay2782 2 жыл бұрын
@@CarsWithSteve OK. With your expertise, I'm getting closer! As my trailer is a boat trailer, I can't use a weight distributing hitch as the trailer tongue is too long which enables boaters to launch and retrieve without submerging their truck off the ramp and into the water. 2 pieces of info that I forgot to mention: my boat trailer comes with surge brakes...no electronic brakes and I am building my truck with 3.55 axel ratio with electronic locking axel. So my refined question, thanks to you adding to my knowledge, is: Given the circumstances above regarding my 7,000 lbs boat and trailer and the specifics of my truck build, can I, without concern of overburdening the limits of my truck, chose the trailer tow package 53a rather than the max tow package 53c? I understand, now, that I have to get a stronger aftermarket hitch that can carry 7,000 lbs. Steve, I'm getting excited that I am very near my final hurdle! Thank you so much!
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
@@laurazavatkay2782 If you're going for the 3.5L EcoBoost standard hitch towing would be rated at 7,000 lbs (tow guide page 21 note 2).. so you're technically at the maximum with your boat and trailer. The max trailer tow package would have the reinforced bumper so that would give you some peace of mind towing without a weight distributing hitch

@@CarsWithSteve wonderful! That settles it...I'll go with the max tow package. Do you know if the original hitch is welded to the frame in any way or is it only bolted on? The local hitch installers in my area will not change out the original hitch with a higher capacity one if they have to break any frame welding. Lastly, do running boards come standard with the Lariat? There is no mention of them when you build the truck on the Ford website. Thank you again, Steve, for all your help and insight!

Great review, but I reject the idea that people should spec their truck for the next owner. It's YOUR truck so spec it how YOU want it. Don't worry about resale because ALL trucks have good resale these days.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The spec argument is interesting. It's always important to spec out a vehicle for what you need but I always look at the potential resale value. If I know that paying a few bucks more every month will make it worth a higher % on resale than it's a no brainer. These days they do but that's not always the case... Unless auto production becomes artificially deflated to keep prices higher it'll return to where it was in the before days which means used prices should drop as new supply increases

Hey Steve, my F-150 has an expected build date of mid to late Feb, ordered it back in September. Got the Lariat 502A package, but I can't remember if the bed step was standard or not on that. Is it standard on the 502A or was it an add on? Thanks for any insight!
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
Bit of a wait so far but great that it at least has a build date! The bed side steps and tailgate steps are optional. In the Lariat you'd need option 60T - the Power Tailgate that gives you the tailgate work surface area and tailgate step. If it's just the side steps you can get those added in aftermarket. If yours hasn't been serialized yet you might be able to catch the build and have them add it on during the build. Check with your dealer!

To be honest, I had a choice to remove it, I decided to keep it. If I have to wait for a train, I might as well have the Engine turn off while sitting for 15 min.
@CarsWithSteve

That makes sense. I know there are some people who hate the idea of the start/stop and have tried some weird hacks to disable it I think even if the system was there to have the option for it to remain disabled by the user would be better than it constantly resetting

I personally don't like it but I do understand what they are trying to achieve. Personally I would of liked the powerboost becasue everything will just keep on working when the engine is off, which I think is one of the issues poeple have with the auto stop feature. When the engine is off, there's normally no A/C in the summer. in the Ford, I think the A/C is electrically driven, so it works even when the engine is off. I might be wrong though, becasue I haven't really been paying attention to what Ford has been doing since the 2015 model year ofthe F150

@@thegreatempire3882 Great stories from Texas of people using the PowerBoost during that power outage last year. The start/stop is interesting. The vehicle will always stay at the user set temp. So if A/C or heat is needed the car would restart as needed

How stupid is that my 2022 Lariat, 3.5Hybrid, sports appearance, trailer tow package and onboard 7.3kw pro power, auto tailgate, adaptive cruise stop and go, B&O Unleashed pack etc. BUT it doesn't have a 360 degree Camera, only a crazy one single back up camera? It dossnt even has rear bed camera, what's wrong with Ford?

@@CarsWithSteve It was prepackaged stock, not built money otherwise I would've asked for it. When saw 360 AP 2.0 I thought it has one be a use even tiny Prius comes with 360 cameras now a days. I might trade it in soon for a Tremor 402a package, pretty much same price and no difference in gas mileage on highways.
