At around 6,000 miles driven to date, my 2.0L Ecoboost 4x4, Off Road w/tow package, I'm getting 32.5 mpg average. I do have a Tonneau Cover, which probably helps with the mpg. Also, I live in the hilly country of central New Hampshire which gets a lot of snow in the Winter. I have never been let down driving in the snow. This small truck has by far, exceeded my expectations !!! XD

I only drive around 2200 miles per year (less than 5 minute round-trip work commute) so hyper mileage isn't a concern for me. I'm going with the ecoboost as well, although hoping they will eventually do a 2.5L ecoboost.

I have an XLT Hybrid Maverick in Velocity Blue already ordered since August .. I don't tow anything... so not a big deal for me.. also room for 5 people if needed.. great gas mileage and Fords hybrid technologies are very reliable.. not a CVT... it's eCVT.. planetary gears instead of belt driven... same design as the Toyota prius.. I have done alot of research on making my decision for the hybrid..

Got the hybrid for work. I’m a project manager for a construction company.. Really just inspect sights, and drive… A LOT. So far it’s nice… People seem to like it. Of course the fact that it’s a hybrid is a conversation starter, but the shocker is the 37-40 mpg I’m getting. It’s smooth, nice, simple, handles well. Plenty of room for the driver, and even for a couple in the back. I’ve never filled it since PM’s kind of work alone (bring my trained dog along sometimes). But there’s definitely some room back there. The space under the seat is nice, I have a fancy pair of jumper cables, a couple of drills, angle grinder , some wrenches and other small tools that I keep down there just in case. I still have to spare. The user Interface is intuitive and easy to use. It’s nice and discreet at night as far as the console goes, it’s dark and the only things that need to be lit are. Which is nice, since I hate having bright buttons and light bars and knobs everywhere looking like a rocket ship. Plenty of places for charging plus outlets. It’s a nice daily drive, and helps avoid the pump for about a month haha.

Ended up creating an XL with the Ecoboost FWD, it seems to be the best balance between performance and reliability considering I live in a huge city and want more POWAH! It's pretty cool how you can get an XL instead of an XLT and you're basically trading the rims+tailgate autolock+cruise control for an upgraded powertrain. I ended up adding a few options to make it perfect. Trailer Hitch, Spray in bed liner, sliding rear window, rear power inverter, co-pilot 360 that adds sensors and power mirrors, all weather floor mats, full size spare, tailgate lock, rim lugnut locks. The determining factor between both was a test drive, the Hybrid gets up to 30ish pretty quick but is SLUGGISH after that, getting onto the highway took precision to time it correctly, with the Ecoboost you hit the pedal and you're on the highway at your convenience. Another issue with the hybrid is passing power on the highway, when you have someone riding you and you need to get over but someone is ahead of you, you're forced to slow down to get behind them, but with the ecoboost you can overtake and get back over into the slow lane. This is just a minor thing, but if you travel short distances and use a highway it's worth taking into consideration.

I live in a snow dense area. People freak out that the hybrid doesn’t have awd. Not to mention that 2.0 ecoboost requires premium gasoline.

You say the Mav is small. But it is 10" longer than my 2019 4WD Cherokee that is supposed to be grand. And with the beefy suspension, I was surprised to see the door sticker showed only 1050 lb payload, about 400 lbs less than my Mav. As for hybrid vs eco, your conclusion should have depended on the majority of miles traveled. If it is a daily drive in city traffic: hybrid (but it will take a year to get one delivered.) If it will be used a lot on road trips to ski or over dirt trails to the trailhead: eco with AWD (which can still be ordered now.) Eco hwy mpg is similar to the hybrid even with way more power, safer passing, more fun in sport mode, more towing, and AWD better in snow without being forced to chain up.

Good review, I agree if you need awd or the 4k tow package ...gotta have the ecoboost....otherwise not sure why you wouldn't order a hybrid, my personal driving situation I'll probably get 40+ mpg with the hybrid and would only get 25 mpg with the ecoboost, can't see trading that gas savings for a little extra power...and you're right the 4 cylinder turbo charged GDI engine design is not built for longevity.

I have also noticed that there has been more teething issues with the hybrid engine on the forums like remote start issues and dead hybrid batteries. @@anthonygiordano3991 Thanx Anthony. I also researched and concluded the hybrid was not for me. Ford has decades perfecting the turbo but a few years with hybrid. Especially a new model year is when they debug it. Here's what I learned from other Mav hybrid owners which led me to the ecoboost: 1. sulfur odor in the cab 2. Can't be towed 3. No cruise control 4. Less storage due to battery 5. No reverse gear: electric motor 6. Battery replacement in the $thousands 7. Hydride engine noisier. I like the concept of the hybrid: gas engine recharges the battery, and therefore no recharge stations. But Ford has not perfected it yet. Hence, recalls.

Great review of the hybrid Maverick. However a concern that I have is that even trained hybrid mechanics do not know how to work or diagnose hybrid problems. So the consumer has to pay for extra man labor hours at the dealership just to have a mechanic diagnose a hybrid problem. Case in point, my daughter had a 2006 hybrid Toyota Highlander and just to diagnose an electrical problem it would cost her $130/hour to find the problem. After an hour it was found that water had gotten into an electrical brake cable hitch for a trailer. Partial problem. The mechanic could not determine where the water was coming from. I took my daughters hybrid home and discovered that the water was coming in through the third rear brake light as the rubber seal was deteriorated. Problem solved .

I bought a Maverick XLT Hybrid. I love it and I am getting over 50 mpg. I drive a lot on a road called the "3 " here in Puerto Rico. It is only 50 miles per hour max speed on that road. I am in golf kart mode most of the time. Of course the macho guys here are always driving around me at 70 MPH in a 50 zone Gas keeps going up and it will get worse this winter especially with Putin, Russia, and Saudi Arabia conspiring against the USA. It works great to carry my Wing foil surf board and supplies. I filled the bed up with grave to take care of 15 of my trees that were downed in the hurricane. No sagging truck bed, I did not even feel the extra weight. I DID HAVE TO WAIT ALMOST A YEAR AND GOT RAKED OVER THE COALS BY 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS Just to get it to Puerto Rico Island. Oh well, I live in paradise and went Foiling over the water today, saw a turtle and a big spotted ray jump out and eat flying fish.

I ordered a canadian hybrid xlt with sunroof and and the dealer confirmed that mine will be produced as a 2022.. and is expecting delivery in march. Coming from a jeep wrangler owner, i find it hard to downgrade from a rear wheel drive 4x4 to fwd no 4x4. 4x4 allows to do neat things, offroading, going uphill on icy toad, getting unstuck, but here in canada gas price is so expensive that i find it no fun having to spend $110 per week at the gas pump either. I can live without offroading, and i never tow anyway.. i do more city and highway driving. I like to travel. So fuel economy should be my priority. The bad thing i will have to accept is the lack of leather seats. Hybrid canadian version does not come with leather trim, it is fabric only. That really annoys me. Apparently hybrid US verson has optional leather seats. I don't understand. Another thing important is resale value. I think the hybrid will have a better resale value when regular 87 octane gas will be over 2$ per liter here in canada. Ecobost which require premium gas will be insanely expensive to fill..with a gas that will eventually cost $3 per liter driving a 6-7 L /100 in couple of years it will cost the same as driving 13L/100 today.. $110 per week per tank… hybrid will be the minimum. to have.. ecobost oweners will move to EV for towing.. people will not buy ecoboost in the future..

I love the price of it, mpg, functionality too. What I don’t like is that the Santa Cruz comes with a lot more features that Ford makes you pay for w/ diff trims. These are the two vehicles I am between, however the Cruz is more of an SUV styled vehicle and the maverick is definitely a truck. Hyundai has a good warranty however Ford beats them on that (at least my dealer does) with a lot of different features like Ford Protect, which covers a lot of issues like wear and tear issues. other warranties will not cover this and if they do it’s usually only for three years. Adding something like Ford protect is definitely a huge benefit and peace of mind for any owner. I am leaning towards the eco-boost however I would love the gas mileage of the hybrid but electric vehicles scare me because I’ve never owned one. I don’t know enough about them. what the longevity of owning one? I think about repairs and how much things are going to cost me after the warranty expires. My opinion hybrid model probably going to be more expensive repair wise than non-hybrid model. I also get scared that I’ll break down somewhere because my hybrid battery died - do hybrids even use gas? I’m sure it does - that’s why it’s called a hybrid whereas an all electric vehicle - I’m not sure it does. Honestly for what I would use the vehicle for, the hybrid model suits my needs better and also my budget lol, but I’m scared of the unknown regarding them. I love the options that come stock on the Santa Cruz and that was a vehicle that I was waiting forever for it to come out, but it came out at a starting price higher than what was reported which is a big bummer. In my opinion the Cruz is like a modern Subaru Baja - there is similar stylings to it. What it comes stock with kinda reminds me of what the Baja came with - whereas w/ Ford - if you want those extra options you have to pay for them with the different trims. However if you’re going to pay 30,000 for Santa Cruz SEL you can get into an XLT maverick with some of those same features for at least $5,000-$8000 less. Hell, the fully loaded lariat trim starts at $25k. A fully loaded Cruz is like $45k. What I want to know is I’ve noticed on the model you’re driving in the video (which looks like the Lariat) that the shifter looks like a knob. I am wondering if the other trims or the ecoboost engine version, if the shifter is still a knob? Because that concerns me. My dogs travel w/ me most times and worst case scenario what happens if they come into the front and slip and fall on something and all of a sudden I’m driving down the road but because they slip and fell into the shifter it switches to neutral or reverse - that’s a big design flaw imo.

Everything about this video s incorrect. Saying a turbo engine is "more" complicated than having an electric motor and a gas engine hybrid is just silly talk. Saying the towing is nearly the same... very misleading. Mentioning savings in the long run by going hybrid...? That's to be determined as not only does the hybrid have a transmission, but also 2 power sources and a battery pack. Very misleading to the buyer. If, and I repeat if... there were an all electric version, I'd be more inclined to agree with these statements. But generally speaking, a non-hybrid is going to be less complicated than a hybrid... Even with turbo. People who prefer gas powered vehicles over electric question the cost of battery replacement. People with electric preference avoid transmission failure. Hybrid buyers have been rolling the dice with both, the batteries and the transmission costs. I personally will elect for turbo over multiple motors and the addition of batteries any day... until there is an all electric.

Neither... This was a massive FAIL by Ford. We should have gotten instead a: 1. HYBRID AWD. 2. 6-FOOT BED option... *THIS is the truck I NEED.* Instead, they screw me still forcing me to get one of the expensive gas-guzzling mid-sizes. I still can't fit everything I own in it or sleep in the back of the current Maverick, and the AWD still isn't that great of gas mileage. So, the current Maverick is WORTHLESS to me. BTW, I don't need "full-time AWD"... I'm fine if it's front-wheel drive and AWD activated when needed. I'm sure that would save even more gas mileage, which is actually what I would want. Also, I get that this truck as is would work for a LOT of people, and thus not actually a "fail"... But, I think most are like me, wanting an ACTUAL TRUCK. And to be clear, still want the 4-Door when they do a 6-FOOT+ BED option... No need to bother with the stupid "smaller cab" whatever, nobody actually wants that. Also, ideally, a 6.5 FOOT BED would be the best, to fit more people. That's just 2 additional feet added to the truck which is really NOTHING at all. But, I'm willing to go 6-FOOT so an additional 1.5 feet, which would still fit most people. Just need at least that and I want an actual good gas mileage truck. So to me, this version of the Maverick is a FAIL.
