I ordered a base Hybrid with hitch and it never got built. Wound up taking a gas XLT FX4 with 4k tow pack the dealer had coming in. $5k more and that hurt. I'm a disabled Vet on fixed income. But after 6 months and getting adjusted to the higher payment, I gotta say I don't feel like I "settled" for the gas model. It has been awesome, very capable and flawless. 25 mpg city is good enough to live with. It shines on road trips getting 36 hiway and even 27mpg pulling a thousand pound trailer. Pulling our 300 lb. tent trailer it gets 32 mpg! That amazed me. These are going to make a lot of folks very happy if they can just build more of them! I was a bit pissed that my hybrid got canceled for '22. But the one I wound up with is very much the one I need! So I was blessed that way. Really enjoyed your work here! Thank you!

I’m with ya haha if I bought one right now it would be the ecoboost AWD due to where I live and some trails I hit, but if a hybrid AWD existed, probably would go with that

Since everything else about Ford’s hybrid was engineered with Toyota’s and Mazda’s assistance, it would be easy to put the same eAWD the Prius uses. This would be a game changer for pulling trailers out of a boat launch, which the FWD will struggle with. Also, the limited power to the rear with the eAWD system would be enough for poor weather No impact to MPG and relatively inexpensive to install. It’s a no-brainer.

The hybrid with regenerative braking makes the brakes last a lot longer.

One thing about AWD is that if the tires aren’t brand new, and have some tread wear, shops often recommend replacing all four tires if one is damaged and has to get replaced. If there is a difference in tread depth, it can damage the drivetrain parts. If you don’t really NEED the AWD, and just want it because it’s a truck, might want to reconsider.

i agree - many people get awd when they dont need it because it rarely snows where they live - NJ for example. But if you like to go off roading --then yea. I'm on the waiting list for the maveric and I live in upstate NY (not far up) -im diggin on the hybrid and the MPG's. Also it is less expensive and probably more reliable since turbo cars can be problematic when they age a bit -still undecided .

I live in Michigan and awd is pretty important here. So this thing is perfect. Tires are pretty cheap and arnt a deal breaker for needing a couple extra tires maybe down the road. I used to $1500 for a set though with my scat pack

I've had my Hybrid 23 for 5-6 days ao far and im averaging about 49mpg combined so far... A few commutes to work ive been at 60+mpg... Crazy. It definitely g2ts better than advertised mileage!

And thank you for driving the base model, so many people only *do* the fully loaded , top of the line , luxury package add on, models that most real people can't afford or aren't interested in! And for that hefty price tag you might as well go for the F-150 all electric or a completely different brand! For me , with all the crazy skyrocketing fuel prices, it's got to be the hybrid. Great price, great fuel economy and not a bad looking small truck.

He did not mention the modes on the Eco boost just on the Hybrid. I have a XLT eco boost AWD with the towing package. In the sport mode it really has a lot of performance over the normal, highway, or eco mode's. Very satisfied!

I just passed 2 years on my '22. Only 4000 miles. Really. My only issues have been lots of recalls, some they don't have solutions too (not good), and poor service. Dealerships do not give a rats butt. Oil change #1, did not reset oil life (first dealer); oil change #3 (different dealer) again noted they reset oil life, nope! On the airbag recall same dealer as the oil change #3, left panels not connected, stuffing coming out of the headliner, general poor fininshing touches and a 9/16" nut that probably belongs inside a door somewhere. On the good side: I like the mpg and the fact that I willingly bought a cheap vehicle, so my expectations match the poor build, the poor entertainment system, and the fact that I will be able to unload it with very few miles on it.

After driving years of 5 different Toyota Tacoma pick ups with the incomparable 22Re 4 cyl. motor. The only discouragement was safety from getting passed by impatient Drivers. I ordered the 2.0 Ecoboost 4 cyl. Turbo which will give me approximately ( POTENTIALLY A COUPLE OF MI. LESS) OR the same MPG.We will see the truth when my 2023 Maverick is delivered. Can't wait!

Congrats on your order Joey! Good choice, the turbo hwy mpg is not much less than the hybrid even with way more passing power and capability. In sport mode it is like a little race truck. I have almost 100 Mav only videos on my channel that can help you get through your wait.

The questions to ask regard to where I am going to pay the most? Sure the hybrid is cheaper. Will it cost more to work on? Will the battery swap cost me all that gas money I was saving in 10 years time? Will CVT maintenance cost more than the 8 speed? Are there any mechanics in my area that can work on CVTs? I primarily do highway driving so the fuel efficiency is going to basically be the same. I also want to do more camping so having that extra pep is tempting. The inner city commute small business owner should get the hybrid. I am leaning towards the 4X4

Ford's ecoboost engines (specifically the 4-cylinder ones) have tremendous problems with head gaskets failing, turbos failing, etc. The non-turbo engine in the hybrid has been around forever and is very reliable. Not to mention that the transmission is not a CVT, it's an eCVT which is totally different and one of the most reliable transmissions in the world. Same thing that's in my Prius with 480k miles and counting.

Proven quickest version is the turbo awd with the 4K towing package.

The turbo will also have a greater tendency to have reliability issues. I’m not sure why anyone chooses the turbos willingly when they might incur a costly repair bill. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Which powertrain is easier to reach and to fix? As in, is the Atkinson engine easier to work on or would that be the Turbo Ecoboost? What about the ECVT ? Which one do you believe is more reliable? I have yet to find a video describing each cars value in repairs, as in which will be cheapest etc.. (Yes outside of ford by purchasing the parts, as in extended ownership value).

I have the 2.0 with AWD FX4 and it is easy enough to service. Drop the steel plates up front (skid armor) and the drain plug and filter are easy to access. Driving it up on a set of ramps even makes it drain better! I even changed the oil in the front PTO already. It has a drain and fill plug unlike earlier AWD Fords. The rear drive is easily accessed for fluid changes though the fluid is crazy expensive. I will say that access to common preventive maintenance stuff is all very do-able. The 8 speed auto in the 2.0 has been well tested for some years now. Mine has been smooth & flawless. The one in my wife's '20 Edge has been perfect too. Great drivetrain for a daily driver!

8speed auto transmission is much more tried true and tested than the new ECVT planetary transmission. Not to discredit the ECVT but it’ll be much more difficult to work on. Plus the hybrid engine is going to cost much more if anything fails in it. Due to all the electric components. Again nothing against it the efficiency of that motor is insane but as it’s brand new I would still stick with the Turbo just for reliability and ease of replacement parts due to it being in other ford models already.

Probably the wise move. On a non-hybrid vehicle there's more stuff that you can personally work on/maintain or customize. You may not use all that power all the time but you'll be grateful that you have it for the moments that you do need it.

The Hybrid uses a normally aspirated 2.5 liter engine, originally developed by Mazda, it will go 200,000 miles no problem, the Hybrid battery is guaranteed for 8 years but will probably last much longer than that, Prius Hybrid batteries have been lasting 200,000 moles or more, the Turbo four Eco Boost won't last more than 100,000 miles if your lucky, it's a terd of an engine

I've had a small Ford Ecoboost engine before. (2017 Escape 1.5L) It failed at 76,000 miles due to a known engine coolant leak. Never again.

If you live in the city and don't plan on going to far and don't live in rural wintery areas get yourself a Hybrid. If you plan on using it for WORK in rural areas get yourself the AWD 2.0 Turbo.

Yes Enrique is right. On my channel, I have videos showing one of each. For road trips, the turbo AWD hwy mpg not much different even with way more passing power and capability in mud and snow.

I have the XLT 2x2, only hit the highway like twice a month, 90% of the time on traffic jam and drove it 3k miles is 2 months ( yes i know is a lot of miles for someone that only drive on traffic jams) I getting 17.4 MPG, when i hit the highway @ 55mph i can get 30+ mpg, but like I said I don't use the highways. Is a great vehicle, in my experience the XL is a better purchase, don't get wrong i love my XLT Lux package but if i could go back i would definitely get the XL.

Hybrid 0-60 mph is about 7.5 secs, while the AWD Ecoboost with 4k tow pkg and lower gearing is 5.9 secs and without tow pkg about 6.4 secs. The hybrid is plenty quick enough.

I'm not looking at getting to work quicker but instead cheaper. If 4x4 or Hauling is your thing Hybrid is the wrong choice.

Personally, I go to areas with uneven terrain, snow, ice, hills wi to snow and ice. Tires make a difference…but all 4 wheels working with good tires makes the biggest difference.
