Hey Chris & team - GREAT review!! TY TY TY I'm a HUGE fan of the GV70 in this and the ICE version. I like my cars to have a sunroof and high end premium leathers and trim. BMW offers an electrified 3 series also worth looking at for those who must have high end materials, excellent workmanship & a sunroof. I had the ICE version for a weekend on 2 occasions and simply LOVED it. At this price pt it is hands down the clear WINNER!!! Most EV's look too futuristic (odd) for me. Thx again for the detailed review. Also, a per peeve of mine is "Fast" vs "Quick" - Fast refers to top end speed while Quick is referring to the 0-62mph or 1/2 mile times. And Thx for saying "Head Up" display vs "Heads Up" Display - That really bugs me (for some silly reason). Regardless, I'm in Canada and no price is released to date nor no estimated arrival date yet. The top end trim (all optioned out) price for the ICE is $76K Cdn plus taxes, fees & registration. I predict that this electrified version will come in around $5-$15K higher. The reason why people want to hear the engine noise is because they haven't fully embraced EV technology yet. They're still stuck in the old combustion days of exhaust fumes and motor revving. When they fully realize the beauty of an EV they will appreciate the dead silence of cruising down the road.

I think your review is spot on... If Genesis were to fit a 100 kW battery into this... It would be the segment leader. And perhaps even one of the very best EV vehicles on the market.

Good review , I own a GV 60 and I can't fault the car , I have not driven the GV 70 EV but Genesis gave me a petrol GV70 for 24 hours while GV 60 was in for its first service , sorry for me the GV 60 wins all hands down granted the GV 70 is very nice it is bigger if you need the extra room , the GV 60 rides and drive so much better I found the GV 70 was like driving an older Range Rover to much body roll. Also I really did not like the way they have done the touch screen so far away and it doe look like an after thought just stuck there, yes its very nice but I would not trade my GV 60. Thanks I enjoyed your review.

I just wish Genesis was on Sale in Portugal. Because it isn't and from all the other EV SUVs I tested, the BMW iX3 is the one that ticks all the boxes for me. But really would love to get a GV70 EV, love the looks, they are cheaper and great build quality.

66l of diesel at £1.90 / 4 = £31.25 And let's be serious. That's not gonna go down. And you HAVE to pay that. And you HAVE to drive to a filling station when you need diesel. And you'll probably have to pay more road tax and you'll have to pay ULEZ in many places. Whereas, the EV version that cost £32 to charge for the same distance can be done at home while you watch TV for a fraction of the price. You'll never HAVE to go to a filling station unless doing trips that exceed the range. Which is rare for most people in the UK outside of commercial drivers and those who drive for a living. They can probably expense the recharge costs too. So for the rest of the buying public who probably do far less than 280 miles a time (bet most rarely ever do more than 100 in a day) this is blatantly a cheaper car to run. Especially if you have a work salary sacrifice scheme 🤣

A really good review Chris. You mention the good and the could do better very well. It's a nice car without a doubt but the outlay is steep, more so if you add options that really should be standard at the price as you point out. That alone would rule it out currently for me. Range anxiety is still an issue with EV's and with sales increasing having to wait for a public charge box might in cases require a queue depending on the location. As a car I really like it although I'd prefer a three way split rear seat but having the front storage for cables is great as you don't have to use up boot space or unload stuff to get to under floor storage. For those that do get this car I'll sit here with a modicum of envy.

Love this EV, as it has better performance than the ICE model. Problem here in Korea though, is that it's SOOOOO much more expensive than the gas model, you could never save any money driving it. Just not worth it, imo.

I have a Porsche Macan and can’t see any Macan in this GV70. Good looking car though.

Genesis claim it comes in one trim level, though there's all the other packages. Seated heats and steering wheels are extra? WRF?! All those extras should be included for the price. HUD's are in some cars in the high 20k range.

Thanks for the review! Shorter range than some competitors, but quicker charging speed than most of them on high output chargers kind of offsets that. Also I'm from Canada where we are lucky enough to have dirt cheap electricity. One thing I'm curious about, the ICE version can tow 3500lbs, but no word on towing capacity of this EV version, any idea what it is or if it's non-existant?

Range per say wouldn’t necessarily be an issue for me - given it’s four wheel drive with such performance. But the issue is efficiency - with a 77.4 kWh battery suited to its size and a good 0.29 drag co-efficient (given its SUV profile ) the issue has to be weight. The all wheel drive Sports Plus GV60 has the same 490PS but weighs 2145kg why is the GV70 another 155kg heavier it’s only 20cm longer than the GV60?- none bespoke EV platform maybe?! Let’s revisit if they ever do the GV70 on the E-GMP platform.

Uhm, that is an Audi e-tron GT around the 1 minute mark and it should've been fairly obvious that this suv/crossover does not compete in the same segment as a sports coupe :D A picture of the (as correctly mentioned in the voice over) Audi e-tron would've been the accurate choice. Of course Audi's naming conventions in regards to electric vehicles are stupid, but it's the same with mercedes and BMW which made the whole ev saga more confusing than necessary.

I would certainly be a buyer if the GV70 but the range is unnaceptable on the electric version and the fuel consumption very poor on the petrol. So is a no from me.

Thanks for the review. It's not quite time to buy just about any EV, except a long range Tesla. And not just because it's a very well sorted car. The charging infra and the real-world range makes them quite usable. If this was for in-town duty and I had it plugged in at home, then the sting of the initial cost wouldn't be so bad; but I'd still not be entirely happy with having to live with the range as it is. Remember, charging to 80% and not going below 10% are highly recommended if you don't want to wear out the battery prematurely. So for real-world drivine, lop off 30% of the estimated range right off the bat- which in this case is nearly 90 miles!

That 10-80% charging regime is mostly recommend for DC ultra-rapid charging (>50kW). Destination or home fast AC charging (3 to 10.9kW in the case of the Genesis) to 100% on a regular basis isn’t a significant issue given the modern day battery management systems on these and many other vehicles.

@@lornestein7248 nvm then, i was probably looking at the horsepower for a current model mazda. Lol I bet it still looks 2x as worse though, if not then great. And just so uk, the gv70 has a boost function to go to 400+ horsepower making the mazda seem slow in comparison.

the 'cost savings' of EVs were always pretty illusory. Now they are simply non-existent. In fact, Petrol cars are CHEAPER to run, buy and own.

Lucid Air is Better by far ! 900W Technology ! Even the base Pure version at 80 Grand in US does over 400Miles real Driving range !! Best !

Genesis lost me at subscription for heated seats. It’s ridiculous to pay for a car, the energy to run the car only to be locked out of features by another paywall. For heated seats no less. It’s a feature that’s built into the car, if I have to pay to access it that means the car will never really be mine. I find it so absurd I’m swearing Genesis off forever. FORever! Bye Bye ‘Genesis’.

An EV with fake engine noise is the motoring equivalent of a vegan sausage. The range, like most EVs, is unacceptable at the car's price point.

I'm not vegan, or even vegetarian, but why shouldn't a vegan have something that tastes like sausage but doesn't require animals to be killed? It makes no sense to me why people have a problem with this.

@@Termnath especially as most people will never do 280 miles and need to fully charge it and keep going. It's rare. And if you do have to do that, just buy something else.

It makes no sense to have a family car accelerate from 0-60 in 5, 6, or even 7 seconds. Manufacturers should limit the car's ability to basically waste energy in this fashion.

which almost nobody agrees with. Just coz a car CAN accelerate fast doesn't mean it has to and most of the time, it doesn't. But when you want it, it is there - except for you who probably wants a 42hp Hillman IMp.

I am torn between the EV9 and this. The EV9 will be bigger and better value, however this does appear to be more luxurious. Looking to replace a Range Rover Autobiography and cant wait around for Land Rover to finally go electric.
