The new Sovereign's don't have that beautiful lustre to them sadly and also don't look like they belong in a pirate's treasure chest like the old ones do. I'm after the latter personally as for me I need to feel some emotion for the coins I purchase, that's what makes the hobby or investment into precious metals so fun and worth the initial financial hit! Im new to the channel btw and I've really enjoyed what I've seen so far so you have earned my sub, mate. 👍

Thanks for the thoughtful comment 👍🏽 That's a great way of putting it. Far easier for me to buy some gold than put money in a savings account for eg

Whilst I don't dislike the newer sovereigns, the old ones amaze me that I'm holding a 130+ year old coin and it makes me wonder who originally bought it, who has owned it in that time, was this once a present? Was this a heirloom handed down? So much life stories to one small gold coin
@SovereignSaurus2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it would certainly be interesting to see what such a coin went through. Some that ended up hoarded somewhere safe and haven't yet been found, some that changed hands many times

I fully expected to hate the new Sovs until I actually held one under natural light. Not nearly as grotesquely pink as I thought they would be, and I've developed something of a magpie obsession with the 2002 design which is my current favourite. No 2022s in the stash yet, but hopefully soon since the price is right!

The 2002 is very nice yes. The mint seem to make their coins look as pink as possible on their online materials for some reason

I bought old and new sovereigns from Bullionbypost and both looked like the same goldy colour to me. Definitely not bronzy looking in the new ones. They were just newer looking. Your comment about the colour almost put me off buying them but they turned out to mor goldy than bronzy.

Old ones would be a prettier color as the new ones would be more reminiscent of the Krugerrands but as an American I would just consider it variety.. something to complain about but you were only buying the gold content anyway lol
@SovereignSaurus Жыл бұрын
I think the Krugs looks a much nicer colour (or at least my Krugs that are from 1970s and 1980s, I've not seen any from recent years in the flesh) Like you say, the gold content is there so bigger problems in the world 👍🏼

I agree with many of the other commenters. If you're going to mint a gold coin, for heaven's sake, make sure it looks like a gold coin. If I want copper hardware, I'll go to Home Depot.

Fantastic, it's great to hear. I've been following the market to try and get a feel for prices of the pre Victoria sovereigns. It would be nice to build a collection of the remaining portraits I don't have, I find it difficult to understand the prices compared to buying low premium bullion for a few years so it's good to hear that it is potentially a viable option

For the sovereign it is likely that they will return to the standard George and Dragon on the reverse. Presumably they will keep the 5th Elizabeth II portrait until the next monarch

I don't understand why the new sovereigns are so rose-colored. They don't even look like gold. All other countries that used 90% gold and 10% copper have a bit of an orange tint, which i rather like (like the pre-1933 US Eagles). But they don't look PINK. I wonder why every shot of the sovereigns make them look so different.
