If I'm going to spend a bunch of money on a gold sovereign, I want it to have the color of gold. Not a copper round. I'm looking forward to 2026 when they switch back, and I'll be a buyer again.

Yeah the capsules are pretty fancy, bit bulkier. The proof are more reflective. You'd be able to see them apart together

I wouldn't mind some of the newer Sovereigns but not a fan of the Rose Gold. Personally, I also really like the history of the older coins. Oldest one I have is from 1850, the Samurai were still around. But if I have a choice between old gold and new gold and the price is the same. I'll take old gold every day.

Nice video ty:) I'm going have to save a few months but I want to get the 2024 or 2025 double sovereign and after save for the new type as a double sovereign (2026) as these seem like a neat coin in hand to own (my only sovereign is a copper color normal one:). And after that a 1 and 4 ducat they seem cool too:) Have a nice Christmas time Sovereign Saurus and everyone🙂

I might sound like a sovereign snob for this, but I like sovs that were in circulation, pre-elizabeth, although gillicks are nice coins, the copper ones are too shiny like a proof, they don't seem to have any lustre, I don't seem to mind paying a few % above spot for something that ticks all the boxes of what I think makes a quality gold coin

I bought the 2025 proof and the George IV where this year’s design came from. I do think this years special sovereign in pretty good because they’re pretty limited in mintage vs the coronation, platinum jubilee and memorial. The 1826 coin I got in that set is a beautiful gold colour it’s a shame the rose gold on the proof, I’m glad they’re changing but hope no special design again.

The other point about the older sovs is being able to assign the 'collector' label to yourself for official means. I was looking to grab myself one for xmas but Chards have some real good deals on the 1/4 Tudor Beasts atm (not much more than a sov) so grabbed a Bull for the collection instead.

@SovereignSaurus That would be REALLY helpful if you can, my mum passed away from cancer about 4 years ago and still have some of the inheritance left and I'm thinking about buying some gold!! I have 3k worth of gold and silver in my postalbullion basket 5 gold sovereigns and 12 1oz silver coins (total £3006) but I'm worried about investing without proper guidance. I've been watching your videos and they have been really helpful and I wouldn't have considered gold without watching them but I can't afford to lose the money as I have disabilities and no way of replacing it if I mess up!. I've had about 9k with her for 4 years and it might be another 2 years maybe 5 years+ until I need any of it so it's just sitting there losing value. The economy is only going to get worse so I worry about leaving the money in the bank and as a first step I plan on transferring 3k to gold and silver coins.. I look at the price graph and WOW £527 for a single 22k 7.89g used sovereign and £27 (£37 in basket) for a 10z silver coin! An up-to-date video with some advice on price or stability like could they drop back to £260 in 6 months time or are they going to continue to rise. Should you buy now despite the high price or waiting for it to fall, will it ever fall haha.. I was going to buy from the royal mint but the coins or sovereigns cost slightly more and I'd lose coins or 2oz of silver, I could use the extra 2oz to melt down and cast into something cool. Thank you for making videos I've found them extremely helpful 😊

That’s a very nice pile! I think, I too, prefer the older sovereign with regards to the color, I do think the new ones being rose gold look kind of cool. I think it’s all cool to have all the different looks…. I have some Britannia‘s with the rich yellow, old sovereigns with the classic yellow, and a few new pieces with the pinkish look… I think it’s all kind of cool to have set them side-by-side… It makes them a bit interesting.

I find this topic interesting. I've been buying 1oz Gold Britannia's. The last from Atkinson's at £2,120. Given some investors spend hundreds of thousands in gold there will always be a market for 1oz coins and bars. I guess it depends who you sell to. If the price rises over 5 years I'm sure a dealer would be happy to buy any amount of 1oz Britannia's. I'm wary of selling privately. Out of interest do people sell to dealers or privately?
@XYZ-ef3mo7 күн бұрын
I've noticed a trend recently. When the market opens 11pm GMT on Sunday the price increases and then drops. Last Sunday the drop lasted an hour before increasing over £60 for an ounce. I've been buying 1 oz Britannias so a saving of £60 per coin in a day is worth noting.

Here in the US safe deposit boxes are anything but safe. Banks are known to "lose" contents on a not infrequent basis, especially when precious metals and the like are involved. I don't know if this issue is as prevalent in the UK, but it is likely the reason for some commenters being skeptical of the security of safe deposit boxes over there.
