Serral and Reynor accel at weekend tournaments like blizzcon and iem where you go from round of 16/8 to championship in 2 days. GSL is a different kind of beast. In each round you get to study your opponents for weeks before you face them. so it's your best against his best. You can't be considered the GOAT until you win at least 1 GSL

It shows how this tourney is a very different skill set. Amazing to see DRGs journey back. Each season he gets better and this is a huge feather in his cap.

Following the same logic one also cannot be considered a GOAT until they win at least one big weekend tournament. Koreans mostly play GSL so they excel at preparation. Foreigners mostly play weekend tournaments so they excel at that. Also, it's a lot easier to attend a weekend tournament then spend weeks in Korea to play at GSL.
@shohokuslamdunk

@@tomislavturcic2329 yea i would agree with that too. tournament format makes a huge difference. If Serral had won 1 gsl or even a second place I would say he is the GOAT because he would have been the most consistent player in the past few years. but I think the fact someone like Reynor couldn't advance beyond rd of 16 in two GSL attempts also speaks volume about how hard GSL is. I would say Serral and Reynor are the two best playing on the fly without much prep whereas Maru and Rogue are the two best if given enough time to prep and study the opposition. If I had to choose a GOAT right now I might have to pick Rogue who has won multiple GSL and International tournaments, but it's a reluctant pick since I believe the meta has been zerg favored for quite some time now. LOL

DRG is suverely underrated as a korean Zerg. Now that Rogue is gone; There's Dark at the top at #4 all time ranking, Solar #14, Ragnarok #18 and DRG #21. ZvZ still DRG's worst matchup even though he had some recent upsets (ranked #33 vZ.) He already got better aliculac rankings in ZvP than Solar+Ragnarok, better ZvT than Ragnarok and not far from Solar either. Out of all races Solar got #6 vT while DRG is ranked at #8.... If he could improve just slightly vs Zerg he could advance ahead of Ragnarok and Solar in all time rankings and claim the spot as the 2nd best Korean Zerg. 2023 the year of a 31 year old GSL champion, (if GSL is still on that is). So now I guess I gotta come up with some other excuses besides 'being old' for not being able to take that seamingly massive leap from D1 to Masters.....

This is why I think E-Sports is so important for a game. When you see players who do it for a living, try their very best, go through ups and downs, feel their emotions, and then end it off with a handshake and sportmanship. It just makes the game so much more than just grinding in a computer simulation.

The third game was like a slow motion car crash for Reynor. Started the game with perfect unit control. Took virtually no damage from the 12 pool, and did a great job dodging the corrosive biles. But around the mid game his roach micro got a little bit sloppy, he got hit with a few biles. Towards the end of the game his army was getting melted by the ravager biles, it didn't look like he was even trying to dodge them.

I think commentators' predictions were kind of onsided beforehand. DRG did show massive improvement in his ZvZ skills and making it out of GSL playoffs two times in a row is nothing to scoff at. Such a guy is no walkover, especially considering DRG's experience in GSL. Same goes for Bunny who is in top form. This wasn't an easy group by any means.
@Riverfall_
@Riverfall_ Жыл бұрын
Yea, the guy beat Rogue last season and sent him to the military. So even if this was still Reynor's favoured, DRG had good chance to win. Similarly ever since TY left, Bunny has been top2-3 terran with Cure so it wasn't shocking to see him win either. Add to that both of them being familiar with GSL and preparing for a group and it's very justified loss.

He ain't coming back. With how cocky he was and not even able to make it out of the round of 20, the fall is alot greater and he probably cry for a long time. Don't think he would want to experience this again when he could just stay in EU and play against Serral and a bunch of B players. I mean the difference in difficulty is night and day. Reynor can't even make it out of round of 20 in GSL but in EU/NA but it's almost guraranteed he makes top 4.
@MrGouldilocks

@@GapModel1 I hope he comes back, it's fun to have foreign blood in GSL. But you're right, GSL is a different beast from Europe. I still think Reynor is on par with pretty much any player in Korea. But GSL is a grind. Anyone in the top 20 is capable of beating anyone else, The talent pool is incredibly deep. European tournaments have a few world class players, but Reynor can get to the semifinals with his eyes closed most of the time.

SPOILER ALERT Reynor had to do just ONE thing - NOT be greedy. It failed the first time, it failed the 2nd time (he won DESPITE of it, not because of it... just barely), and then it failed the 3rd time. I don't get it. I was soo rooting for him, but objectively, with this complete lack of ability to adapt and adjust, sadly he totally deserves to be out.
