I would drain the gas. Take the bottom bowl off the carb and inspect it for "gum". Will it try to start with starter fluid? If not, change the spark plug. It wouldn't hurt to pull the carb and clean the jet holes as well.

It’s my first time owning an outboard I don’t want to damage the moter, please help me with my steps Step 1. Determine oil level and oil type and add to motor, with gas. Step 2. Add water hose for test run. Step 3. 1-3k rpm for first 10 hrs. What else should I note when FIRST starting and running procedure to avoid damage!? THANKS

Sounds good to me. I broke mine in by using half to 3/4 throttle variations on the water as well.

Quick question I’ve been trying to figure out but was your motor built in Japan or China I heard Honda moved production there for some of their outboards.

Did it come with lower unit oil from the factory or did you have to add?

I ordered mine from an online dealer. They had a note stating to add engine oil, but the lower gear unit oil was good to go. They ran the motor to test it shortly before shipping out, thus having a small amount of engine oil and a full lower unit of gear oil. I am not sure if all other dealers are the same or not.

This is what the manual stated on the oil recommendation page. 10w-30 oil. Honda recommends that you use API service category SG, SH, or SJ oil. The SAE oil viscosity and service are in the API label on the oil container. I would think that as long as your synthetic covers the API category and are using 10w 30, you should be good. Could always call a marine shop and ask as well. Hope this helps.

The outboard is a little over 60 lbs. There is a handle on it that makes it really easy to transport. As far as your bad back, not sure tbh.

i just bought this motor. how did you prime it to make it start? can't figure it out and it won't start!

Are u using the internal tank or an external one. If internal, there's a gas on/off switch on the side of the motor you need to move ao the gas will flow.

@@JRMSweeps yes the gas was on. i just read the directions lol says to prime a new motor you have e to pull the kill switch tap off then pull the pull start cord 10 times to prime it or it won't start.

The motor is amazing. It starts oh so easily every single time I barely pull the rope. As far as loudness, it is def more quiet than a 2 stroke. I put 5 gals of gas in the external gas tank 4 months ago and still havent had to refill it. Very pleased with this motor.

DEFINITELY toooo good to be true, no doubt. Unless you are buying a cheap, chinese model that is possibly used.
