I own an Indian with ride modes and keep it in standard mode most of the time sport mode is great if you are ripping it in the mountains but around town and parking lots it is real twitchy. All it does is change throttle response doesn’t change power output. Tour mode is more like a rain mode really backs down throttle response and has saved my bacon in the rain! The Indian has a drop forged one piece crank, not pressed like Harley, has machined aluminum intake not like Harleys plastic. Indian has gear drive oil pump not like Harley chain drive. One oil used for the oil changes for the Indian not like all the different oils need for Harley. The Indians don't have an oil sumpping problem so oil and carbon build up on top of the pistons after a short few thousand miles like some Harleys have wont be an issue. Those are just a few things I have researched and found out. I wanted a Harley too but why not get something that is better built, however the Harleys do look a little better and would have a better resale. I tend to ride bikes are more geared towards speed than putting around but from a sports bike guy it just seems like the Indian is the obvious better bike through and through it seems like Harley is relying far too much on its brand loyalty in selling its loyal customers 20 year old technology for modern money prices offering far less than their competition but they can get away with it because Harley guys are going to still buy Harleys no matter what kind of like iPhone fan boys or Gucci girls who care more about the brand name then the actual product they are receiving for their money.

Ride what you like and don’t hate on another’s choice! It's ironic that you mention dealer support. HD is in the process of shutting down dealers. We lost one in my town already. Whereas Polaris at least here is selling and servicing Indians in all Polaris dealers in the city as of 2020. In short, 2 years ago we had 2 HD dealers and one Indian. As of this year, we now have 3 Indian dealers and 1 HD. So I'm in the opposite position as I have way better dealer support from Indian in my town than I would with a Harley.

Great video man - subscribed! Interesting how Indian are no longer 0lac7ng their products as the 'value option' - they are being bold and pushing the new Chief as a premium option. I will of course have a test ride, but I don't see myself trading out my '17 Scout for one of these any more than I could change to a Fat Bob - the Scout is over 100lbs lighter, has way more power where it counts and a wide spread of torque that goes far higher up the rev range. But there is a market for these 'bigger', heavier bikes; some people perceive the Scout as a 'small bike' even though the wheelbase & wheels are the same as the new Chief, so I don't think Indian will be eating their own lunch. Looking forward to your next videos 😎

There's a post on reddit that broke down the Softails vs the Chief 2.0 down to the minute detail model for model. Long story short, Softail beats the Chief tit for tat every single category. Dont forget about that oil cooling assist on the Softails which the chiefs do not have and they dont even let you have the oil cooling addon like the previous chiefs did. big swing and miss indian. After reading out all the comparisons, prices and including the cost of parts from first party, it's clear that harley is the victor here in these comparisons. I think it was a huge mistake for indian to go with a TS powered bike with dual shocks instead of a Powerplus with a monoshock rear. With a Powerplus and monoshock, Indian would have slam dunked Harley for good. Big mistake indian. Kudos to harley making waves and getting out infront of the competition before competition forced their hand. I'm looking for a full sized cruiser to replace my electric daily rider, and Harley's got my attention, Indian doesnt.

Very informative comment so first off thank you for that. I feel Indian copied the Harley Dyna instead of moving forward in the tech sector. Each brand does offer some unique traits but ultimately Harley will probably win out in sales. I want to test a Chief though just for giggles.

The prices of Indians and Harleys are close. The difference is Indian gives you more with their price. 2021 and Harley still doesn’t have an electric wind screen? Really? And the technology on the Chief with the speedometer is another example of ingenuity that Harley refuses to take the next step in.

True, but if you offer two premium brands, similarly built, some of modern America will go for the value over the name. Not all, but some.

These brands and their prices. How do they justify it when the Japanese offer more for less. Ok, indians are a work of art, and Harley has the History and their sound is iconic , but I can't justify paying double for half.
@ChopperFett3 жыл бұрын
That is a very fair point. Some of the new bikes I’m looking at are from the land of Japan for that very reason.

Everything with Harley Davidson cost extra. Fuck them and their high prices. There are better bikes out there cheaper then buying a Harley Davidson. The generation of people in this day and age do not care about the "Harley Davidson" cool status they relied on from the past generations. We want a great bike for a great price. Harley better wake up and offer all the good stuff you can get on other bikes and stop expecting people to pay extra for it. No one cares about Harley Davidson any more. The old guys that carried them through the years are old and dying off. The new generation of people don't care about the biker life style Harley made money from in the past. The guys with tattoos and sun drenched skin and jean jackets with the sleeves cut off and looking like they haven't took a bath in weeks are over. These days people want the bells and whistles and should not have to pay extra.

LOL! Indian verses Harley. I do not think Indian is competing with Harley. There is not much comparison other than the V-twin look. Engines 114 vs 116? No comparison as far performance. The 116 is a better engine hands down. Indian makes a better motorcycle as far as handling and performance . I have to say these new Indians are not that new as they are styled after the Victory Judge.
