Excellent review, Steve. Unfortunately, you weren't able to go into detail as to why "the biggest news revolves around the base GT-Line" (1:09) of the Stinger. With the corporate 2.5L turbo 4 cylinder that KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis are offering in at least 9 separate models, the 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds is only about half a second slower than the GT2 version. Fully loaded with the "Sun and Sound" package that provides a sunroof and the upgraded audio system available in the upper trims, the AWD GT-Line has an MSRP of $40,590. That's more than $14,000 less (!) than the GT2 with virtually the same amenities and about 230 lbs less curb weight, all over the front wheels. In fact, the GT-Line base model is a significantly superior alternative to the FWD only KIA K5 GT for only a few thousand dollars more. As such, it's a screaming bargain. I'd have only one small quibble with your characterization of the Stinger as a "sports sedan." That's certainly an accurate categorization of the Stinger's cousin, the Genesis G70 that's clearly aimed at to compete with the BMW 3 series but to me the Stinger is more properly seen as a GT (Gran Turismo) sedan in the European tradition. A 4 door sedan designed to transport 4 adults and their gear in comfort at 3 digit mph speeds over meticulously maintained highways as well as to navigate winding secondary roads, many of which were originally laid down by the Romans two millennia ago. It is sad to see the Stinger disappear so soon. But KIA, like other automakers, has seen the writing on the wall suggesting that high performance cars propelled by ICE engines are dinosaurs compared to the forthcoming crop of EVs. Consider that the Mustang Mach-E is outselling every other Mustang variant. The Camaro will soon disappear to be replaced by an EV with coupe-like styling. Even Stellantis has indicated the Charger/Challenger will be electrified within a couple of years. You're undoubtedly correct that if a vehicle like the Stinger is appealing, it's best not to "linger." Soon, it and most of its competitors will be gone.

Excellent review. In Australia we only get the RWD. I have the 2020 top of the rage GT here in Oz and I absolutely love it. Best car I have ever owned and I have had some fantastic cars in the past. When all things are considered such as bang for buck, standard equipment, performance, driving experience, price and warranty, there is nothing close to it in my opinion. An equivalently specced German model costs twice as much here in Oz. Still not a fan of that grey as it reminds me of an undercoat. To each their own I guess. Steve from Oz

he is right on rear wheel drive. I have just bought a new stinger in UK which has no awd option, the power is so fierce the backend twitches a lot and in the wet its worse than a high powered bmw, fun but very fast and twitchy. My biggest complaint is lack of exhaust noise, the so called variable valve in sports mode makes no sound difference at all. Guess you need 4rd party exhaust system
@belvederedog25633 жыл бұрын
Agree about the back end slipping out. I notice it whenever I take off from a set of lights and have to do a turn immediately. No issue on a highway though at speed.
@khronin3 жыл бұрын
Sadly the diffrence between an AWD and the RWD is a lot.I have a 2020 AWD and so glad I got the AWD.Not only does it not twitch--but you can take long hi speed turns and other turns very fast and the car stays flat.The car with AWD is also fantastic in bad weather.I probably will always get an AWD car after experiencing it.Also if you take the time to go thru the settings--you can turn an AWD car into a much better track car then a RWD.One magazine complained about bad track times on an AWD Stinger and when i froze the video at one point--they were in comfort mode--there is a HUGE diffrence in performance between the 2 settings.I plan on getting slightly wider tires to make the car handle even better.I think that is the only slightly problem area is the tires could be bigger.I also would not take my stinger to a road course--the tires are so low profile that the rim would probably get scraped on the speed barrier humps that are in turns--tires are too narrow and not wide enough.I know why they did it because the 80% of where most folks drive their stinger is perfect--but when pushed you notice some of the downfalls--BTW my Stinger would dut say a car like a Honda type R which i also drove for several days--same problem and the Honda is slower and is FWD making it much worse on a track if stock.

@@Alex.AL_26 ... True. I'm just saying that this engine's fuel economy is extremely poor. I feel like they could have done better.
@khronin3 жыл бұрын
That is totally not true.I drove 2 BMW and they were barely above 10 MPG.I have a 2020 Stinger and I am at 20 to 23 in rural driving--I say rural because it is not exactly city and not exactly HWY.An X6M I looked at and had for a weekend was at 13 MPG--10 MPG less--not even close.Any car with this performance level will get bad gas mileage if you get on it--but BMW V8s drink a lot more gas then the Stingers engine.Our local dealer has a bmw and KIA dealer at the same area and you can turn the cars on and see the fuel mileage--And do not even mention Dodge--thise 392s will see the fule gauge go down while sitting at traffic.But even with a BMW you can turn it on eco mode and get better mileage which is what i do now that i won a Stinger.I leave it in comfort mode except for the one or 2 times a year i goto the track.I even have a picture of my fuel milega on one of my videos after my exhaust was done and my mileage went up--this was almost 200 miles of driving and I was right at 23--including a stint on the HWY where I went between 80 to 90 and was at almost 30 mpg while speeding.

Is this real world economy from real world drivers? I don't have a BMW, but I do have a 3.3 stinger, and honestly the economy isn't bad. To make power first you must burn fuel. If you want to make power in the stinger you burn fuel, if you drive it sensibly I achieve 7.5L/100km on the open road and about 11L/100km driving around my small town. A 25km commute to work is about 8.5L-9L/100km so not shabby all things considered My previous car was a 4.0L n/a Ford falcon with a 6 speed ZF box, about the same weight as the stinger. Stinger is far more powerful and slightly more economical. Win Win in my book! Many high performance modern cars seem to do unusually well on the economy tests but real life is a totally different story. The stinger seems to be pretty close to achieving what the official consumption is.
