I shouldn't judge, but Lexus was known for being a brand primarily for older people. But, that's all changing now and I think the brand is starting to feel a little more hip. So, does the 2022 Lexus RX fall into that category? Paul Maric gets behind the wheel to find out!

That Lexus is going to outlast every German car you just mentioned
@User-cb4jm
@User-cb4jm 2 жыл бұрын
If you have the disposable income to buy a $100k car, you probably aren’t too worried about the bean counting comparing it to a German car. People buy a luxury car for the performance, driving dynamics or interior quality, and those German cars do it better. If you want Japanese reliability, get a Mazda CX-9 (or the successor CX-90) or a Kluger in the highest spec. This Lexus’ only purpose is to bank on the luxury image, while just being a Toyota/Mazda with a terrible infotainment system and dated interior. Also Genesis exists…

My 2021 is350 feels more comfortable using the remote touch interface than touch screen, however touch screen for typing is better. A key to getting use to it is lowering the mouse/cursor speed, I found it made it much easier to hit targets.

Yes a controller is more comfortable than a touchscreen but the issue is with Lexus’ ‘touchpad implementation. BMW iDrive is the leader in the field with a rotary controller and that’s also been implemented by mainstream marques like Mazda, and they work exceptionally well especially their latest 2019- iterations (iDrive 7 and Mazda Connect)

Great review. We looked at the hybrid RX450hL to upgrade from our NX200t. The NX has been a great car and we love the Lexus proposition. Unfortunately the interior is too similar to our NX to justify the upgrade and with the new model around the corner it's hard to justify the price tag. We looked at the XC90, Range Rover Discovery, GLE450, X5 and Q7. Narrowed down to the Lexus and GLE out of that bunch but the GLE 3rd row is unusable and it's hard to justify the $40-50k premium on the RX. So bottom line we're going to wait for the new model.

Great video really enjoyed. Bought a RX 450h 4 weeks ago and are really enjoying it. (Yes I’m quite an old guy). Compared to my RR Sport the RX is much more comfortable even though the RR has air suspension. As far as the touch screen in concerned I have no problem with it. Use the touch pad to select the menus then use the touch screen. All I can say about other reviewers is that they must have very short arms. One of the main reasons I bought Lexus IS for their amazing reliability. The fact that the RRS 30d is renowned for breaking crankshafts really put me off.

Cross shopping Lexus rx350L to Acura mdx. I'm leaning toward the Lexus. I like the size of the MDX (true 7 seat suv) but the transmission is shaky and the engine has timing belt instead timing chain. That will cost $2300 at 100k miles. I keep my cars 12 to 15 years so Lexus has the advantage there. I'm also looking the hybrid and electric suv. I'm not impress with Lexus RX 450e (only 250 miles per charge)

Hello Paul so you asked about younger driver's well I am a new 21 year old driver in the USA and I recently this month went to pick up my brand new and fully optioned out 2021 Lexus RX 450-H L V6 Hybrid I was originally going to get a top trim and fully loaded out Toyota Highlander for 2021 however just I had the money laying around and on hand to buy the Lexus so I kind of just decided to build and price a Lexus RX 450-H L V6 Hybrid in white with a white leather interior the reason that I did not get the highlander was because it just felt really shitty in terms of overall luxury, also my new Lexus RX is my very first car ever however I am still on a drivers permit so I do still need to have one of my parents in the car with me if I want to go to the store or something plus I am not even in driving school yet. So far I really like the Lexus and they actually have updated the infotainment to a touch screen for 2021 at least in the USA I am not sure about the UK though.

Impressive 2nd row room, compared to the new Land Cruiser....the LC is such a failure to be honest unless they come out with a longer wheelbase....just too small for such a big SUV...maybe the LX will be packaged better. Even the 3rd row in an RX is bigger than the LC. Granted in the RX kneeroom is small in 2nd and 3rd if you slide 2nd forward. But headroom is better, you aren't wedged to the headliner.

Cross shopped an XC90. Expected the XC90 to be the desirable vehicle, but the RX450h to be the dull, dated but sensible vehicle. Sat in the XC90 and was completely underwhelmed. Bland and basic minimalism. Large screen and not much else. Felt cheap quality. Then sat in the RX and straight away no comparison, made my mind up in 2 secs of getting in. Does not feel dated at all and personally liked the buttons etc as opposed to an iPad just plonked in the car. Everything just felt so much better built and plusher. It still has everything pretty much tech wise, apart from the carplay being wireless, but I believe you can just buy an adaptor for that. Combined with far superior build quality it was a no brainer. Just got delivery two days ago and it's great.

Reliability only bears fruit a few years in, which on a car this dated already is a diluted proposition. This car is only available in hybrid form in Europe and even in the L the boot is laughably small. Otherwise its just so dated and the price tag just isn't warranted.

For $100k it sure feels underwhelming and dated. I appreciate Lexus reliability but if I was spending this much coin I’d just get a X5, and with that much disposable income I’d be able to afford to maintain it. Otherwise, a top spec fully loaded upcoming Mazda CX-90 (or whatever they call it) will eat this for breakfast for 2/3 of the price and have Mazda Connect which is on par with iDrive not this weird touchpad crap. Also that ancient speedo looks worse than full Virtual Cockpit you get on a base model ŠKODA Octavia at 1/3rd the price which was also reviewed recently on this channel. Then that cruise control stick lifted straight of a decade old Yaris… the car would probably be more justifiable at 2/3 the price but again you’d be paying more for the Lexus badge over a “mainstream” Mazda CX-90

These days it seems like it’s just the brand value of a Lexus you’re paying for. These are ancient cars, while also seeming to skimp on the luxury quotient, in comparison to its competition (Eg losing the wood trim as standard and charging a premium for it). You can get the same ‘premium/luxury’ feel from stuff like a highlander, Acura, Mazda etc which are far cheaper.

@@shivjeetparthasarathy4377 spot on. I assume you might be in the US, hence mentioning Acura. Unfortunately here in Aus, there’s a lack of semi-luxury brands like Acura or Buick to fill in the gap - it’s mainly just the likes of highly specified Mazdas or VW to cover mainstream with a nicer interior and better quality. For a Lexus competitor, my money is on Mazda. Toyota has a clear interest to draw a separation between upmarket and mainstream but Mazda can go for it as they have no luxury brand to cannibalise. They are often 2nd best selling models here after Toyota, occupying the sales position Honda takes in the US.

@@User-cb4jm India actually ahahaha. However, I do follow the US market quite closely. In India as well, Toyota has been riding on its accumulated goodwill and due to the lack of any real competition for products like the fortuner and innova (MPV version of the fortuner, built on the Hilux platform), they jack up the prices to luxury levels which these don't really deserve. We don't have any real products that can slot in the middle-its either premium offerings from brands like toyota, hyundai, kia or VW, or the cheapest offerings from Audi and Mercedes which aren't very great tbh

@@shivjeetparthasarathy4377 yea totally agree, Toyota has made shocking price increases here especially in the past 5 years or so with the Yaris, etc so I’m not surprised they’re simply just banking on the Toyota reliability image when many similar cars offer the same reliable experience and with more features/better interior quality.

@@shivjeetparthasarathy4377 SOMEONE SAID IT THANK YOU. Toyota fanbois in the comment section of every Indian car reviewing channel are s*cking d*cks of Toyota cars saying oh reliability this reliability that, but in reality Toyota is ripping it's Indian consumers by charging exorbitant prices for a shitty car which would be useless after 10 years so reliability doesn't really matter

It's just a Highlander jazzed up a bit. The Highlander has been around for eons and is one of the best selling, best made cars anywhere. I like this but the difference between the two doesn't appear to justify the extra 20K price tag.

I’ll raise you one, if you didn’t want to pay for the luxury brand, and wanted to avoid Euro reliability, get a Mazda. The top spec CX-9 already stacks up decently against this even though it’s at the end of its lifecycle, the CX-90 would definitely blow it away.

Lexus is commanding Euro money for their cars while their product is way off the mark. If I for whatever reason need to stay away from getting an Euro, I would bypass Lexus and Toyota all together and go straight to the Koreans, I'll save more money while getting more value and features. I have taken rides in many different Lexus models in the past (you know, Sydney airport limo service) and I have to say as much as people says Lexus is quality, I just don't see it, the look and design don't scream quality, and the feel definitely is no better than most Euros in the same segment. I honestly don't know what is so luxury about a Lexus when most buttons are plastics with design squared off design of the 80s, and gear selector is still a slot shifter of the 90s l(when most brands are already on e-gear).

Yeah couldn't agree more. Plus I was just saying in another comment about the so called perceived "long lasting' myth about the modern Toyota's and Lexus. These won't last as long as people think they will, cos of the million electronics and computers. This is what the so called unreliability of the Germans are all about. Electrics.

You missed the Discovery Sport as a competitor and probably others too. Wow that has one ugly grille. It’s a glorified long wheelbase RAV4. Why is the infotainment screen stuffed down into the dash - yuk! Mind you I also can’t stand screens that stick out the top and aren’t built into the dash. Good value?? It’s Ridiculously expensive! Can’t believe all the wired CarPlay. 2021 Kia Picanto has wireless CarPlay - max that others especially expensive vehicles don’t!! Really it just looks like a Toyota Avensis.
