Have a 2015 Mini Cooper 5 door, still loving it today. It has enough room to haul 2 kids for school, a lot more room if you fold down rare seats. It's one of the very few cars I don't get bored after couple years. I think the old dash and front look better. Just had an expensive fix, but it's trouble free in the last 7 years, so overall not expensive to maintain.

I stumbled across your channel yesterday and since I'm on my third Mini, was interested in watching your reviews. First, I absolutely love your channel! You guys do such a fabulous job with both the pros and cons of owning a MIni Cooper. That said, I disagreed with the one negative comment that was made regarding how there hasn't been many changes over the years to the overall style. For me, there has been too many changes in order to modernize the brand. They need to stick with the retro look. I remember the days when all the cars looked different from each other and nowadays, with very few exceptions, they all look relatively the same. No artistic characteristics that makes the car unique. The dashboard of the Mini should keep as close to the original style as possible. Trying to keep up with the Jones mentality is what's ruining the auto industry. The Mini roadster was so cool! I understand sales weren't going well, but to discontinue it was a mistake. The trend at that time was to make larger vehicles to please the damn soccer moms. Okay, I'm off my soap box now. Thanks again for your informative videos.

I have the 2017 5-door Mini Cooper base model in the same colour, with no racing stripes, but with black wheels. The look hasn't changed much, other than the British Union Jack shown in tail lights for the newer models. In the 5 years of ownership, I've had exactly zero problems with the car. And the maintenance has been also minimal with 3 years of free maintenance and 4 years of a comprehensive warranty. I only had to take the car to have it serviced once every year. For the first three years, I paid nothing. Fourth and fifth years, the maintenance service came out to $450 each time. For both of the last two years, each time, I also had to get my brake jobs for the front and then the rear brakes which cost me around $800 each time. Overall, I have had to pay very little for maintenance, compared to my second car which is a 2013 Mazda 3. I leased this car when I got it, and I loved it so much that I bought it out when my lease was up. I've had three Mini's in a row - 2010 two-door base manual, 2013 two-door base automatic, and 2017 five-door base automatic. Yes, I bought three Mini's in a row because I love that car so much. The base model is plenty of power, more power than you ever need. My 2017 Mini was before they switched to DSG transmissions, yet it drives so smooth - like a DSG, with no sluggish undecided lurches that you typically find in small economy cars like my Mazda with automatic transmission. If you're going to go for that 2013 base Mini, I highly suggest you find a manual. I had no reliability issues with my 2013 automatic, but it was a 1.6 naturally aspirated non-turbo engine putting out only about 120 horses, coupled with it being an automatic, it was painfully slow and sluggish when merging onto the highway. It just wasn't fun. But I had no feelings of being underpowered or being sluggish with my 2010 manual Mini which had the same engine as the one in the 2013 model. I would never get an automatic transmission Mini if it's less than 2014 model year. The year 2014 was the year when Mini had turned to three and four-cylinder turbo engines, and the automatic transmission also improved. I think Mini started to offer DSG transmissions starting last year. Based on my personal experience, all this talk of Mini's being unreliable and expensive to maintain is highly over-exaggerated. I have 87,000 KM on the odometer and I have not a single problem that needed repairs. And it was like that for all my three Mini's of the past and present.

@@kellingtonlink956 You're welcome! I forgot to add, I'm getting 6.6 Litres per 100 KM. So it's been a fantastic gas saver. The only problem is that it requires premium gas which is outrageously expensive right now. But to me, it's worth it for the fun factor. I get nowhere the fun with my other car, Mazda 3 which is getting 7.0 litres per 100 KM, but only requires regular gas. So the Mini is more expensive to fill up, but I get a smile on my face every time I get in the Mini, while I just ho-hum, and say just take me from A to B, Mazda.

As my first car was a 1970 2-door Mini Estate (Traveller?), I obviously love most of the Mini variants. Perhaps my personal favourite was the ultra rare .... Mini “inspired by Goodwood”. Essentially ... a Mini that Rolls-Royce’s design team splashed some of their magic/craftsmanship onto (akin to Aston Martin’s Cygnet). These were some of the few benefits of the 2012 CAFE fuel obligations/accommodations (mandatory). Mini has completely nailed the retro design when BMW relaunched the British brand. And their very conservative updates (aside from that digital gauge screen) have served them well. They have become ageless. Well done them. Thanks for the video.

I've heard the cost of ownership numbers are somewhat skewed. Mini owners are apparently in the company of those more likely to treat their cars poorly, and miss maintenance milestones regularly. It's been suggested because of the target demographic. If I owned one I'd be following the manual to the letter, at that price.
@bigmacdaddy12343 жыл бұрын
This is a very good car and the fit & finish is top notch. My only nitpick is the front 4:05. The black grill surround trim going from the hood all the way down to the lower bumper cover looks odd and throws off the lines. Mini should have kept the previous look with a distinctive grill on top and bottom.

You guys have great reviews, really enjoy the format and spousal banter. I've got two Brit cars in the garage, a Jag Type R Coupe and just added a 23 Cooper S. The Mini is not just an absolute joy from behind the wheel, but also has the right mix of quirks and interesting details that adds some character like no other brand. BTW, I looked at a GTI as a primary alternative, but can't stomach the buttonless cockpit. The MX-5 is great, but lacks utility for my use case. Also looked at the Mazda 3, but they need to bring back a sportier version to catch my interest.

The title of the review, "Nothing else like it!", says it all. MINI fans are committed both to the brand's strengths and its eccentricities. I recently took a lightly used MINI for an extended test drive when I was looking for a car for my 17 y/o daughter. With the exception of a few bells and whistles it was nearly identical to the one I drove when I was shopping in 2013. Now as then, it was great fun to drive but when I returned to the dealer and got back in my GTI, there was no question in my mind that the VW was a far more solid vehicle (imo). I certainly understand the MINI's appeal but I think its future remains trapped by the expectations and preferences of its (shrinking) fan base.
@jillthompson61103 жыл бұрын
I used to have a 2008 VW GTI, and I loved that car. It probably is the best driving car I've ever owned. If I didn't get the Mini, I'd probably get the GTI. The Mini handles great overall, but when it comes to cornering, I think the GTI is by far the best gripping cornering car I've ever owned. I disagree with you that the Mini is less solid than the GTI. They both are solid cars. The Mini has a harsher ride due to its small wheelbase and a very tight sporty suspension, while the GTI is more of an all-arounder which can be a comfortable long-distance driver and a mean-spirited sports car when you want it to be. Despite the small size, the Mini's doors are thick and the doors close with a big satisfying thunk. They are built like tanks and they certainly are not light economy cars with thin flimsy doors and frames.
@stephenhendricks1033 жыл бұрын
@@jillthompson6110 I suspect that we differ very little in our opinions on the "solidity" of the MINI and the GTI. Perhaps I should have said that the GTI feels more "substantial" than more "solid." Over the last decade I've had occasion to cross-shop various MINI models three times. Back in 2012 I went with the last of the German built MK6 GTIs and in 2018 I purchased my current MK7.5 GTI after deciding that it was more adequate for my needs and priorities and significantly less expensive than a comparably equipped MINI. As I noted above, I was recently shopping for a vehicle for my daughter. (In part so she would stop constantly badgering me to borrow my GTI.) I thought a used MINI would be a perfect choice. So off we went to a local dealer who had a low mileage 2014 (as I recall) model. I found it a delight to drive but as I said less "substantial" than my GTI. My daughter was less enamored. She found the interior, especially the instrumentation with the circular center display, "strange." (I began to feel I had failed in a major way as a parent.) So we passed on the MINI and it sold to a young woman with better taste than my daughter several hours later. All is well that ends well, though. I happened across an immaculate 2012 Volkswagen CC sedan with only 45K miles from private party at a great price (for these crazy days). Amazingly it came with a manual transmission and my daughter fell in love with it. (Frankly, I suspect she wanted a "stick" to impress her boyfriend.) She has since become adept at driving an MT vehicle and I can enjoy pestering her to borrow it rather than the other way around. 😁

Cause with anything broken, which should happen, those new ones are remain with warranty. If you love the way it looks and drives, I would consider it as a 2nd car while keeping the Kia as a primary daily driver. Its definitely not fun when you have to drive a rental. I would go for the 3 door Mini, the 5 door just doesn't say Mini to me. Those wheel, is a NO from me, would rather have the more classic alloy rims. Even if it has to be an SE, a normal rim and not the Power Spoke (previously call (aka) Corona Spokes). That's ugly.

IMO, they ruined the looks of the Mini with this generation; the cars to consider segment made that abundantly clear when it featured a much better looking Mini from the previous generation. If I were in the market for a Mini, I'd pick a clean copy from the first or, especially, second generations and live with the reliability nightmare that they would inevitably be. This generation is still a reliability nightmare, but it lost its looks, which is the umber one reason to buy a Mini, at least for me.

It's no Mini.If you have driven an original Mini you'll know what i'm talking about.This is the reason BMW bought out the Rover group in the UK and then let it go to pot.They just wanted the Mini name.

If they didn't need Rover, they could have sold it to another company, like Honda.
