I'll attest to this, too. My 2019 Mirage does about 34 mpg on mostly urban driving. I keep records of milage and gas purchases and this is consistent for over 2 years now. Driving SF to LA (with a full car) it gets above 40 mpg. If you're driving 60-65 for a little while (taking it easy, or because of traffic conditions) you'll see that average mpg sensor showing you figures as high as 50 mpg. I really like my mirage, it's super easy to park (fits in spots other cars don't!), turns on a dime, so far very reliable, does everything I need for a family of 3. And it's actually more spacious inside than my previous Honda Fit: I can sit in the back seat without my head touching the ceiling (I'm just 6' tall), and I can sit in the front passenger seat with the baby seat in the back, which was hard in the Fit (I had to squeeze my knees to the dashboard and sit very uncomfortably). Overall a great no frills car that's cheap to buy and maintain and will meet the needs of many families.

Very nice 👍🏼 I’ve got a 2019 cvt and average around 45-47mph and I’m in Ohio. Love these little cars. Very easy to maintain and look great overall. I went from a nice civic coupe with waaay more hp but decided to give the mirage a try and haven’t been disappointed yet, especially with the gas fill ups.

I choose this car (European Space Star 1.2) for my parents. They needed low-cost buzzer, pure analogue, for going-around-home only. I suspected myself 52 mpg but performes 56-58 mpg every +20-mile smooth no-snail drive (20% urban, 80% extraurban). Just 6-7 mpg worse than my Yaris III Hybrid. So simply amazing! :D

Your video is prime testimony to considering rather reconsidering the Mirage as my next car. I was trying to get one back in 2019 but the dealerships we’re screwing me around so much with their payment plans I had turned away from the make in favor of a used Hyundai Accent which I been pleased with but it’s racking up miles and it will get to be to the point of replacement time noticed you were keeping up with going 65 the reviewers give the car a bad rap but it’s videos like yours that give me real time feedback to the car.

I had a Mirage as a rental last summer for a trip from Newport News to Woodbridge and back to Newport News. With two large adults in the car, the little nugget performed beautifully! Athens, Greece. I have seen 3.6 lt/km, manual gearbox , with a roof rack on. It is insane ! Like a small motorbike consumption. It has good visibility, a fine roadholding and suspension comfort and it is madly easy to drive in town. Only complaint the rather high overall noise in high speeds , but I guess with some more silent tyres like Klever Dynaxer 4 there will be much improvement. Ps. In order to achieve extremely low consumption, the tyres must be almost fully inflated

I drive from Atlanta to DC pretty often, 700 miles. I avg 44.5 going 75mph, sometimes a little better gas mileage sometimes a little less but that's what it averages out to in the end. I might have the advantage that I also have a cvt and I never really go above 3k rpm. I zoom down the hills and then use the momentum to go up the hills, so like 80mph down hill and 70 up hill. Sometimes I keep passing 70mph cars using cruise control just for them to pass me on the uphill which is super annoying so then i'm having to go 85mph ish down a hill just to gain some distance.

Hello. I have a question, does your new mirage have a rear impact bar (near the rear bumper), because i have a 2021 version that has two crash boxes on the back that are supposed to have also the rear impact bar and i was totally surprised when i recently found out that the piece is missing. Do you know if that is a thing in these cars or every car should have that piece from factory? I have the european version (space star) but i suppose everything is similar to the us version except the name. Thanks in advance!

Mileage figures for the Mirage seem to differ wildly: Some people seem to get much higher mileage figures and some get much lower ones. Is it due to the way some people measure their mileage? You shouldn't use the onboard computer to tell you the mileage as they tend to be wildly inaccurate. The most accurate method is to run an entire tank of petrol through the car and then use the fill volume to calculate the mileage i.e. km/litres or miles/gallons. 🙂
@mitsubishimadman7321
@mitsubishimadman7321 10 ай бұрын
In the video I show my app that calculated based on how much fuel and the distance. I never go based on the computer. And it difficult to tell why some people getting worse economy and some people get better economy. It can be many factors and maybe even a heavy foot
@MichaelCzajka
@MichaelCzajka 10 ай бұрын
@@mitsubishimadman7321 Thanks for clarifying that. You correctly measured using the fill amount rather than relying on the computer. Unfortunately at least some people posting are relying on their computer to do the calculation and that's confusing the issue a bit. I've always wanted a Mitsubishi Mirage... but the price of the Toyota Yaris (better safety specs) was about the same price as the Mirage (Mitsubishi hiked the price and Toyota reduced it) in Australia... so it didn't make sense to buy one... plus our two Yaris' refuse to die (18 years (370K) and 9 years (200K) old). Mitsubishi has dropped the Mirage entirely in Australia since 2021 due to the poor side impact protection... so we no longer have the option to buy one. We get ~33 mpg (14 km/L) from the Yaris... which isn't quite as good as the Mirage (often 40 mpg or more). It's particularly impressive that some people are getting ~50 mpg from their Mirages. Most seem to be measuring accurately... so many Mirages seem to get these exceptional mileages. The wide variation may be partly due to driving style... although maintenance might have something to do with it. I particularly wonder if lubrication has anything to do with it e.g. mineral v's synthetic oils? Heavier grades v's lighter ones? BTW: I got 16~17 km/L (~40 mpg) once or twice in the Yaris. The newer 3 cylinder Yaris' are now supposedly getting Mirage type mileage (20 km/L ~48 mpg)... but they increased the price by about $10K ($28,500 for base model) during Covid... which has tended to discourage anyone from buying them. The 2021 Mirage price was hiked to ~$22K (used to be about $16~$18K)... which also discouraged people from buying them. :-)

The Yaris was discontinued in 2022 in the United States. The mirage at the time I bought it was 14k for the Base model with no options and the 5 speed. A Chevy spark (a different and in my opinion worse compact car) was also discontinued. The mirage has been the only option in the USA for awhile now, but now, even the mirage is going away going into 2025 sadly. This is my college car/credit builder. I like how easy it is to maintain, how good it looks and the economy numbers I get with it. It's like a 90s car with a little more safety and creature comfort. I love my mirage. And I tend to average around 41-to 45mpg. Thank you for your comment!
@MichaelCzajka
@MichaelCzajka 10 ай бұрын
I owned a Daewoo Matiz (later called the Chevy Spark) for about 10 years. It was the cheapest new car I ever bought ($11,900). Buying when Daewoo was bankrupt was good idea... but the Matiz (800 cc 3 cylinder engine) averaged only ~14 km/L (~33 mpg) and wasn't as reliable or powerful as the Yaris N.B. The Matiz had the second most powerful production engine at the time... so It moved along OK. It also had better safety than the Mirage e.g. Side impact protection and more airbags. My mum rolled her Nissan Micra (lacking a whole heap of safety features) and broke her sternum.... after which we tried to buy safer cars (Yaris) even if they weren't quite as frugal. The Matiz, Yaris and Micra have basic engines so they can be maintained easily and have few points of failure. Mainly you need to do oil changes... which take 5 minutes to do on most cars. I'm 6' tall but never had much trouble fitting into any of these cars e.g. Head clearance is good. They are discontinuing the ICE Yaris in Australia from 2024... but you can still buy the hybrid although it's painfully expensive.
