I just bought this truck...I can't believe how many people are bashing this truck. Saying it is still outdated. I completely disagree, it's a pickup truck, not a sports car. I looked at tacomas, canyons, and rangers. All good trucks, but the Nissan remains a simple honest truck, I love it.

Love that color. It seems that Nissan’s well on their way to making a comeback according to many people. Was talking to my local dealer and they said that they can’t keep Pathfinders on the lot. The Frontier seems like a good choice. I also think you hit the nail on the head with it being a good powertrain. The Tacoma 3.5 has been a disappointment since it replaced the fantastic 4.0.

@@EngineAdventures This is exactly why I went for the 2022 Frontier Pro-4X, I had a TRD Pro lined up and ready to buy, took it for an extended test drive, it feels sluggish on the road and even worse with a trailer... the Frontier might not be the BEST offroader, but it's good enough for my needs and it feels a lot more stable and responsive on the road, and hauling my 7x22 7000lb gvwr trailer that I use for my landscaping business, even when it's fully loaded down (I do use a weight distribution hitch though).

Just an FYI, just because the headlights are wired to be on at the same time doesn't make the fog-lights into "driving lights". Mounting location and beam pattern are the things which will differentiate between the two. Also due to regulation (DOT or NHTSA, I believe) fog lights are wired to turn-off when a vehicle's high-beams are actuated. I don't know if the regulations mandate whether the regular low beams must be on or not, however, it seems all factory installations are being designed, wired, and delivered this way. This isn't to say people aren't self-wiring up aftermarket lights, whether fog or driving lights, anyway they want especially if hard-wiring a relatively simple switch and relay set-up. If any company is delivering fog lights which can be turned on without the headlights on at the same time, do let us know. I can see the utility of this as I've been in very thick fog where that might have been of benefit and like that idea the more I think about it. Otherwise, thanks for the review and as a current '17 Tacoma owner, I could be swayed over to this new Pro4X should I get another truck.
@EngineAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! There are many manufacturers that allow the fog lights to be on with just the running/parking lights on. Forcing the headlights to be on with the fog lights negates te effectiveness of the fog lights because the headlights will reflect off the fog/snow and limit visibility. I drove through a blizzard in a vehicle that required the headlights to be on for the fog lights to be on. It was easier to see with just the parking lights on than with the headlight/fog light combo. However, I couldn't drive like that due to other vehicles potentially not being able to see me. I think there are states with laws that require the headlights to be on with the fog lights, but practically speaking it doesn't make sense.

The Colorado Z71 is about the same, except I prefer an e-locket over the G80. It's actually not very impressive for a 2022. It's pretty basic. The 2016 tacoma has a better system and it came out 6 years ago. With that being said, it's good enough and probably all you will ever need. Looks like a nice truck so far.
@EngineAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Land Rover had this type of system in the late 90's. Toyota's Atrac came out in the early 2000's, jeep, Nissan, and most others followed by the mid to late 2000's. Yes ABLS is not new, but it works very well, I'd say even better than most others. Unlike Toyota and Ford, there aren't a plethora of settings that really don't make a huge difference. In the Frontier, 4wd high allows for more wheel slip and less braking action for sand, mud, and snow. 4wd low is very quick to brake the spinning wheels for slow speed, precise movements. It's a great system overall.
@alexgarcia39002 жыл бұрын
@@EngineAdventures I own a 2019 trd sport and it does exactly the same thing As atrac, but I also own a 2016 trd off road and the trd off road has a completely different brake system, even the brake booster is different and has higher pressure over a traditional atrac and whatever nissan uses. So basically it can brake the system harder and better. Also the modes do make a difference , for example in sand and mud it allows more slippage but still distributes power to the wheel with traction. The traditional system in the trd sport or nissas won't let it slip enough and you basically have to turn off the traction control or you get stuck. So basically the modes in some scenarios will make a difference but if you know what you are doing it doesn't really matter. Either way the 2016 trd off road is a better 4x4 system than the nissan. Crawl control while mostly a gimmick has been very helpful in a couple scenarios. With that being said you don't need it lol.
@EngineAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've got a video of a 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro up on this channel. I'm sure the system works well, and my guess is the oversized brake components are for the support aggressive crawl control. I'm more of a tall skinny tire guy, I'd prefer a 255/80r17, to a 285/70r17 or 285/75r17 all are roughly the same height, but about the 255s are an inch skinnier. Stock tires aren't too bad on this thing though.

@@EngineAdventures That is what I thought. I love your channel bro. I told you in the past that I subscribed because how consistent you do your test from different angles, from the inside, the outside, the 4L, 4H, Locker, traction on/off, the angle of approach, the departure etc. You make thinks very easy to understand. It helps us on the other side of the screen make an easier decision. I have been watching a few of your videos lately because I am again looking to get another midsize truck and your information is very helpful. Keep up the good work.

Great honest truck but for the price, it's kinda disappointing 😞.

It seems all trucks are expensive anymore

Imagine if it had decent tires.

As far as my testing goes different tires would have made no difference at all. Yes having the correct tires for the terrain you are on is very important, however my steep hill climb test is more about how well the vehicle transfers power to the wheels with traction.

How many fools will spend 50k to jump ditches and climb rocks ???

Out west seeing a $50k off-roader is common. I regularly see $80k+ Jeeps and Raptors out on trails (for some reason not as many TRXs).

This is the worst truck ive paid for in years... Dont buy this unless u wanna look cool, driving on the rd.... Some people like it, but some people dont.. My jeep it better in the woods than this 60k truck.. Enjoy ur day.

Interesting take, I still believe it has one of the best tuned engines and transmissions in the midsize segment.
