CORRECTION: As a viewer rightly pointed out (thanks!), the TRD trim does come with a stainless steel front skid plate as standard (that was introduced on TRDs for the 2021+ model years). That still doesn't change my general opinion that the TRD isn't worth the additional cost, and a front skid plate still doesn't protect all of the underbody components, but it is something. Also, you can buy the skid plate as a standalone part from Toyota for approximately $400, and it should be a pretty simple install on any model.

fuck a hybrid more costly to repair keep it simple STUPID, this whole ''clean energy'' going green it's all a fucking scam lol, you cannot even build these vehicles or materials without fossil fuels, what ev is about is locking customers/3rd parties out of repairing their vehicles.
@drivetorun41722 жыл бұрын
Given surveys have shown over 3/4 of Americans don't know how to change their own oil, I don't think a hybrid powertrain is what is preventing people from repairing their own vehicles. Major hybrid powertrain components also must be warrantied by the manufacturer for at least 8 years and 100k miles (and in some states it's 10 years/150k miles). Lastly, given hybrids have been on the market for 20+ years at this point, I think we're past the initial teething pains (especially those using Ni-mh batteries). Heck, direct fuel injection was a "complicated" technology at one time too, and now well over 50% of all cars sold in the US utilize that.

As a Toyota technician, I think this video kind of bypasses the differences between the radio/head units between the different trim levels. If you care about things such as navigation, automatic SOS services, remote starting, and audio quality, then the "in between" trim levels make a lot of sense since there is a total of difference between the Audio, Audio Plus, Premium Audio, and Premium Audio with JBL. The cost difference for the in-between models makes more sense in that way. A small thing to note too, the LE trim cannot have roof crossbars installed since it doesn't come with the roof rail system- another strike down for that base trim. Otherwise, great video! I wish our salesmen knew even a third of this.

You have the most comprehensive video about the trim levels of the RAV4 5th Generation, regarding the cost. On top of the mark up as you mentioned, the dealerships may not have the colors and trim levels you might want. But overall your video is an excellent source of information to take a good decision of getting the most value for your dollars.
@drivetorun41722 жыл бұрын
Very true--particularly if you are in a smaller market. I'd look at your nearest metro area where hopefully there are more dealers which will drive some of that mark-up down (I've got at least 10 Toyota dealers within 30mi of my house, and I've found multiple that aren't charging any mark-up). Even with that though, you are correct that finding the color or trim you want still may not be easy.

I appreciate the comments and input. Just a few suggestions if you are planning to continue: 1) might be helpful if you get a better microphone for clarity. 2) I respect your opinion, but I think I disagree that there's certain trims. I think would be better if you mentioned what you lose out of each trim, how much more would it cost, and who might be interested in it. There was a time in my life that the LE was the only one I would have been able to afford. The XLE is an excellent option. The premium is really nice, and I agree, there's a reason why I think these are the two most popular selling. I just got my XSE hybrid. I wanted the power moon roof. I do like the outside trim a lot more. I go up to the mountains a lot, so the pano moon roof is excellent when I have passengers in the back and they can't see the beautiful view I get to see. The limited... A lot of bells and whistles, but if you have the money and it's worth it to you, I respect that. As far as suggesting other cars. I checked out every car that was suggested to me while I was shopping. And this one fit on my needs for being practical yet rugged and versatile. I know there's some higher end cars or more affordable similar SUVs, but I could go down the list and tell you why each one didn't work for me. Thanks for the input though. Hope mine was helpful

All Canadian, so specs are slightly different to this. And now there are used Primes on the market...for $10-$15k over new prices.

Even though it has a great warranty on the Hybrid aspect, I don't want to caught with super high dollar repairs and possible obsolescence when we've gone beyond 10 years as we intend to. It's MSRP was $33,847. It has the XLE "CP" Convenience pkg including Moon Roof and Power Lift Gate. Also has the XLE Weather "CY" pkg that includes Heated Seats, Heated Steering Wheel, Rain sensing wipers that are also de-icing with heat. Only other thing we would have liked was Leather so for $700, I'm DIY installing Clazzio Perforated Leather seat covers front back of my color choice and I guarantee even the sharpest eyes would say they were factory seats, they're beautiful! For $250, I'm DIY adding a Draw-Tite trailer hitch that doesn't reduce clearance, and will DIY add a larger transmission cooler for a couple hundred bucks which I do on most all my vehicles because heat is the killer of transmissions...period. I just added really nice Diode Dynamics LED SAE Driving Lights in the fog position. Just bought some crappy halogens on Amazon for $50 to get the new panels for the bumper and also got the harness, relay, and an OEM style switch for the left side dash where I have an empty spot. That project ran about $400 but is ultra high quality gear. Already Plasti-Dipped the OEM 17" wheels matte black and they came out awesome. Next is some 245/65/17 All Terrain tires and we're done! This is my second Toyota and I have fallen in love with it aftrer just 2 weeks of ownership. My first is a Tacoma TRD Off Road Dual Cab Long Bed I bought 6 months ago. Another incredible machine!

I wish someone do this type of comparison video about cars here in PR. The prices in PR are extremely ridiculous compared within the States. We have to pay a lot of extra money just because the taxes and over that the inflation rate that the dealerships are putting on the cars. It's been so frustrating to get a new car here. We usually pay over $10k vs what you pay in USA. IE, the rav4 you can pay over $50k and I'm not talking about the top of the line! Tacomas over $60k!🤦🏽♂️ And Tundras I guess would be over the $100k the TRD pro. Anw, thanks for the video, even though the prices are much higher here, this video helps a lot to understand the differences between the trims levels.

Yeah, I'm guessing you got the hybrid then (the gas-only XLE premium comes with 19"; the hybrid XLE premium comes with 18"). This video says that you shouldn't buy a Rav4 unless there will regularly be passengers in the backseat. I disagree. An SUV is easier to get in and out of than a sedan or hatchback the high driving position gives much more visibility than a sedan does. An SUV also provides greater cargo space than a sedan.This is why we are very likely to buy an SUV for our next vehicle even though it is quite rare for us to have backseat passengers.
@drivetorun41722 жыл бұрын
That absolutely makes sense! It’s just that if you’re main reasons for looking at the RAV4 is for the ride height and additional cargo, then I’d probably look to the Corolla Cross or some other smaller SUV where you just primarily keep the seats folded down and then you’d still have plenty of space for cargo.
@matth6002 жыл бұрын
All this assumes you can pick what you want. In the current market, I had to reserve the ONLY rav4 hybrid our dealership was getting 6 weeks in advance. My requirements (among Toyota cars) were: Look good (2-tone) and be a hybrid. The only trim that fits that bill for me is the XSE. Maybe you can modify the other trims to look like the XSE, but I prefer everything to be perfect out of the box. I imagine I'll drive this for the rest of my life (not in a 3-wish genie sort of way), but who knows.
@drivetorun41722 жыл бұрын
That makes complete sense! As I mentioned, the SE or XSE work if you love the styling changes and are willing to pay extra for them (and car buying has never been a 100% left brain exercise anyway). Plus, if you're planning on keeping it for a really long time, the additional incremental cost will be a wash in the end. Enjoy!

I was the same. My big thing was I wanted the pano moonroof. That only came on the xse. Plus I loved the two tone and it’s a hybrid. It’s why I went out of my way to find one last year over an xle or even xle premium.

the thing is that its so hard to find an XLE trim without a wait of 12 months atleast these days or elase pay $5K over the MSRP. In light of that I ended up booking an SE variant as it would likely be available the soonest. One additional fact that none of the comps talk about is that the SE & XSE are assembled in Japan whereas the LE/XLE are assembled in Kentucky; Not that it matters on the build quality(Well I hope it doesnt ;)) but just wanted the readers to know. U can check this from the PDF window sticker available on dealer websites usually

I bought the TRD. It has built in GPS maps. The adventure you need to plug in your phone. I live in an area i dont get phone signal, so built in GPS is a MUST. adventure doesnt have premium speakers or backup cameras..... a friend of mine has the Hybrid. Hybrid is great but i think it depends where you live. The nearest town is 30 minutes away.. since the battery only charges when going under 40Kph, brake or coast... her battery is always almost dead cause shes never doing those things.... I think the hybrid would be great in the city..
@drivetorun41722 жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to option up the TRD to get built-in GPS maps...one quick tip though, Google Maps does let you "download" maps to your phone in case you are out of signal range, and they'll still work (I use that feature quite a lot). The Adventure does come with a backup camera (all cars have to now...it's the law), but you do have to option either the Adventure or the TRD with their respective audio packages to get the upgraded JBL speakers.

We have our name on the list for a prime and plan on keeping it for 100 to 150k, calculated out the savings in fuel and hopefully good resale and that seemed to be the best bang for our buck in an all wheel drive platform
@drivetorun41722 жыл бұрын
Great choice!
@MilkyWayGalaxyy2 жыл бұрын
The prime keeps getting more and more expensive. Why is it so popular? You have to hire an electrician and install a wall outlet in your garage for it. It costs so much. The hybrid batteries will need to be replaced at some point which is at least 2k more. Where do you sell it for resale? The dealership? Bc they always rip you off.
@drivetorun41722 жыл бұрын
@@MilkyWayGalaxyy I think there are a few reasons why the Prime is popular. Depending on where you live, the incentives can make it so there's really no additional cost to buy a Prime vs. a standard hybrid. Additionally, if your commute is less than 40 miles a day, you could end up never having to buy fuel, but you still have the gas engine as a back-up if you need to go on a longer trip (for those who have range anxiety with full electric vehicles or only want one vehicle in the garage, a plug-in hybrid is a good compromise). Finally, the RAV4 Prime is the second quickest vehicle Toyota offers (behind the Supra), so there's potentially a fun-to-drive/performance element to it too.
@chrisblake2712 жыл бұрын

@MilkyWayGalaxyy2 жыл бұрын
How does softex feel? Like leather? Is it much more comfortable than fabric? Thr steering wheel is leather too right? Do you get heated steering wheel too? I am deciding between XLE and XLE premium. What else do you get? Do you have to worry about the moonroof getting cracked? I initially wanted a panoramic sunroof but someone told me they heard of them cracking and breaking.
