I purchased my 2022 Royal Enfield 650 new. I have 6K miles on the bike now. This is an EXCELLENT motorcycle. I've been riding for a long time and have owned a number of bikes dating back to the days of BSA and Triumph. If the British built a bike like this in the 1970's, they would have thrived. This is a high tech, yet simple. It has all of the tech that you need, but no more. Overhead cam with 4 valves per cylinder. Air and oil cooled. A balancing shaft, so that it doesn't shake like an old British bike. It has Bosch fuel injection and a 6 speed transmission. Disc brakes and ABS completes the package. It is Great Fun to ride. It will easily cruise the highway at 70 mph plus, but is more suited for lower speeds. Build quality is spectacular and handling is also great. One thing that I didn't like was the seat. I put an upgraded seat along with the S&S exhaust on the bike and love it.

Absolutely an outstanding video - review. The cinematography and audio qualities are truly superb, and you sir are a cool dude, it was a real pleasure to watch. I live in the US, and ordered a RE Interceptor and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I'm 55 and it's going to be my first rode bike. Here in the states we don't think a bike is good, unless it's at least 1200 CC's and weights 650 pounds or more, such gluten. I really dig the looks and the vive of classic looking motorcycles . I'm a nonconformist , never follow trends, and like to be an individual anyway. Love the bike, and loved your review. Hands down the best review of this bike. Keep up the good work .

I've had an Interceptor for 9 months and about 2,400 miles. I'm still happy with it. It checks quite a few boxes for me: it looks great, sounds great, great gas mileage (about 55-60mpg) handles well, lots of aftermarket stuff. It'll cruise all day at 75mph no problem. Power and torque are plenty for most purposes. The six-speed gearbox is nice. The brakes work fine, the ergonomics are fine. It has a likeable personality. But it's not a bike I'd want to ride to Alaska on. Or even 200 miles. The reason being that the suspension and seat are stiff and kind of cobby. Around town it's fine but it wouldn't be fun riding it all day long. That and the right mirror vibrates; and it's hard to impossible to read the digital dial in bright sunlight. Those are my only complaints.

I compare my Enfield 650 to Triumph Bonnevilles every day with two 2012's (SE mag-wheel and Thruxton 900) all 3 air/oil cooled. Also have a Bonneville Speed Twin 1200cc but must say the R.E. gets all the attention; it is the newest of the 4 and has 34,000 kms, more usage than the 3 Triumphs' total. With a 2 into 2 stainless exhaust and a few tweaks (S&S big bore kit) the R.E. is less than 200 kg and falls between the 900's and the Speed Twin performance-wise. They are a marvelous machine; smooth and durable.

Also I found the engine cases got in the way of my boots which I've never experienced before. It reminded me most of the 90s Honda CB400SF I owned or a '97 CB500 that I rode, similar power, weight and riding position.

got my own ventura blue interceptor & all i can say is that life's been great ever since. it's not overpowered nor is it underpowered, but it does have the necessary grunt to enjoy on almost any road w/ really good fuel mileage. though it's quite heavy, has a slightly less than comfortable seat & bad footpeg positioning (both rider & passenger) - it's tough as heck & will bring you to where you need to go whilst having fun on the side. for those looking for pure riding experience w/o the worry of having to spend too much nor worry about busting up a nut or two, i highly recommend this bike.

Recently narrowed my new bike search down to the Interceptor and the CB500X. On paper, not exactly competitors, but they were comparable in many areas (power, mileage, price) and both seem to get universal praise. Finally got to test ride both today. The Honda is a Honda. Does exactly what you expect, no more no less, and I really can't fault it for anything other than just being a bit vanilla. I very nearly pulled the trigger but I had to try the Interceptor first, and after doing so I don't even consider it a contest. The Interceptor just feels so analog, so...alive. I've heard all the reviews talking about the leaps and bounds Enfield have made in recent years, but getting on one just boggles the mind in terms of refinement. And, for what it's worth, I've seen a few people say that they don't think the Interceptor is great for tall riders. I'm 6'7" and my feet/leg position was absolutely perfect. The only change I plan to make when I get mine is a set of bar risers so I'm not leaned quite so far forward.

Not sure if this is still the case with their current bikes, but you gotta love the fact that Royal Enfield are keeping it simple. I really don't mind safety-related innovations like ABS and you can't do anything about components that are needed to comply with modern emissions-regulations. But I think a lot of bikes are taking it a bit too far these days, trying to also include all the "infotainment" nonsense found on modern cars. H-D for example use a slogan like "escape your daily routine" or something like that for their Nightster/Sportster S ... while harping on about the fact that these bikes come with navigation and BT connectivity. One thing I've always loved about motorcycling is that, until a few years ago at least, you simply couldn't take any calls while riding. How's that for "freedom"?
@nickneale9205 Жыл бұрын
This is a beautiful bike. The engine pulls beautifully, gears are slick and the 47 Hp is more than enough. I also had the 350 classic which looks great, very comfortable but really lacks power, running the engine in was scary on reasonable fast roads. The interceptor is by far the better bike.

Excellent review Sir! You hit the Interceptor 'nail on the head' so to speak...it's a classic motorbike feel with modern reliability. And you also used a word that is not heard around here...'Caning'....and in that word you have captured the essence of motorcycling for me. Having a bike that is fast enough....but not so fast that you can't 'Cane' it about....wonderful. I have a 1000cc Suzuki SV which is fast enough that you can't give it full throttle for more than a second or two and you're over 100mph...which IS fun in and of itself, but you don't get the joy of wicking the throttle and giving the bike it's head to go as it will. The old saying 'It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow' rings true. With minor tweaking the 650 Interceptor can be made quite a bit quicker...pipes, air filter and tune and it's into the mid 50's HP's which is plenty sprightly for a Classic British Twin. The suspension is also fine as stock but can be improved as you get on with the bike. I LOVE this factor about the RE's....good enough stock, but as time goes on you can gradually improve it so you get a 'new' bike many times over. I do mods every winter so in the spring I have a 'new' bike. :) Thank you for an entertaining review and I subbed for more of your content.

I bought a new interceptor 4 weeks ago, i chose to wait until march 1st for the '22' reg plate..bike was in stock at Holywood RE Dumfries as were the full range of colours..I actually went in to buy the downtown drag, but the red took my eye with it's deep lustre..the wait is killing me 🤣 I already have a set of Lancashire UK made Maxtorque cans at home ready and waiting for fitment (beautifully made, well packaged and look top shelf quality) after the first service or maybe 600 miles in..after 32 yrs of riding bikes, sports and big ADV, I got bored with all the bigger cc the better bullsh*t, and bought a 2021 RE Himalayan, love it! really enjoying the chilled out riding experience on a truly soulful bike..I just know i am going to love the Interceptor too. RE make quality bikes at a very reasonable price (with 3 year unlimited mileage warranty inc breakdown recovery) and are still cheaper to buy new than second hand main stream brands..sorry for waffling on, but i am now a RE fanboy 🙄 Spot on and brill review btw 👍😄

In real life, this bike looks and feels bigger, and doesn't feel as heavy as u think it would, it's definitely heavy but it can be managable if u're strong enough. It also looks better in real life. It does pack alot of power. Im surprised how people underestimate 650cc just bcs they ride like 1000cc bikes and never even use quater of their power and call anything below 1000cc small.
@flatcapcaferacer2 жыл бұрын
I can understand why you favor this bike over the Bonneville. It provides a bit of raw riding experience with simple back to basic features, however for me the Bonneville build quality and power is that much better. As far as price I'd rather go with a 6 year old aircooled Bonneville at the same price .

Hello, My Interceptor 650 is probably the closest riding sensation you could get to my old 1981 Triumph Meriden 650cc Thunderbird (should never have sold it) for a modern motorcycle. Easy to get to bits of the bike to work on. Lovely engine, spot on fueling for a bike with fuel injection, comfy - well for me anyway, lighter than my Mag wheel 865cc Bonneville (would have kept if I could and had two bikes) Classic styling, 70+ mpg all at a very good price.

Nice review. Thanks. I’m proud owner of this piece of metal and I’m 6 foot 3 and it is no problem to ride it. I Went for a one week trip. Just enjoyed it. No problem at all. Some times I take ride with my HD friends. We look maybe funny together. But I wouldn’t change it.

Great review, I agree that there’s something about a basic bike like the Interceptor that brings motorcycling back where it belongs, affordable and fun. I had not started to read books until 2 years ago. I have read about a dozen since and am speeding up steadily. With so much rubbish on telly I would not much rather read a good novel.
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy. Yea agreed. Yes telly isn’t nearly as good as it was in the 1970’s

I want one,there is a motorcycle dealership here in Las Vegas N.V. that sells mostly European motorcycles. And they do sell the 650 interceptor. I would love to buy one. I love the fact you can see the engine and the simplicity of it.

A really honest and fair review. It’s a back to basics bike and it’s all the better for that in my opinion. You can use all the power which is plenty for today’s roads and you won’t be going crazy speeds. Mine is the Baker Express and I’ve made quite a few upgrades including the suspension, Stratos Performance headers and Zard silencers. It’s the best sounding bike I’ve ever had. You’re right in saying it’s a customisable platform. I reckon you would have to search far and wide to find 2 identical bikes. Keep up the great work guys👍

This review swung it for me; I went out today and bought one with the chrome tank; I'm 6-5 and test rode it and it felt fantastic; I love the seat height. The new switch gear is nice. I'll stick some knobbly tyres on it and some simple mods. Thanks for such a fantastic review. You guys and Freddy Dobbs are my favourite bike channels.

Very good report,I use one here in west Cork , similar landscape , worse roads,so had to make changes to suspension etc,also dropped the foot pegs by 40mm. Simple mod with great benefits,took it to Spain and Portugal last year, great for touring..

I purchased an interceptor back in March last year and totally agree with your review and summary of the motorcycle. It’s a great all round package at an incredible competitive price. I’ve made a few discreet mods to make it my own. Thanks for your review, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Best wishes from Melbourne, Derbyshire.

This is what many reviews lack. People think it as a fast bike but it is made to enjoy riding and not for going like 150+ km/h

Yes 150kph in the RE riding position sux ! ,, We have a freeway that we ride for about 20km before heading up into the Perth hills ( south east of the city and some of the best roads I have ever ridden ,,, and I am a KIWI ) and I can't wait to get off it ! ,, 110-120 is the sweet spot and these sweet engines /frames have plenty enough class to do this day in and day out ,, a lovely bike to ride .

I've just got back in to bikes after a very, very long break. When I last rode, Royal Enfield just made the Bullet. They have really come on a long way since then. I bought myself a Bonneville 865 last month and I absolutely love it but I've got to admit this Interceptor makes a better noise and if I had tried one maybe it wouldn't be an easy choice The big advantage of the Interceptor is its so much cheaper than the Bonneville and I'm not convinced the Bonneville 900 would be that much better.
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 жыл бұрын
Excellent. We prefer the 650 Royal Enfields to the current Bonneville’s tbh 👍🏼

Great review! I swapped my Ninja 1000 for the Interceptor 650 and am extremely happy. It does not feel intimidating to ride at all and is happy while going easy. And you just want to look at it for a few minutes after parking it.

You brought back a none too happy memory there for me ! 1974, on a brand new Suzuki GT250 two stroke, going home from work at a steelworks the long way round, over a twisting mountain road - went into the hedge twice inside of a hundred yards. Later, I noticed a sticker on a lower from fork leg which stated : THE PERFORMANCE OF THE FRONT BRAKE MAY BE IMPAIRED IN WET WEATHER. They weren't kidding ! The OE Bridgestone tyres of yesteryear too were lethal, more like hard plastic than rubber.
