I am watching this and these planes seem very unstable and barely controllable in some cases. The dimensions don't look right. I wonder if they are trying to apply full size aerodynamics to what are basically models which operate in a different Reynolds number range?

It's because the regulations of the Competition. This is the challenge for the students. It wasn't an easy task.
