That is a great question. I actually thought I would do just what you suggested. I had 2 nice skis. One was a Yamaha Wave Runner and the other was a Kawasaki . I purchased fishing racks for both of them but neither of them gave me the confidence to handle the big water in the gulf. Probably would have been fine for fresh water fishing but I enjoy both. Each accessory on my Seadoo was well thought out. When I go out to either the gulf or fresh water fishing, I typically can find the fish with my livescope and cover a lot of water. I do more catching these days than fishing. The trolling motor has open up many options for vertical fishing in the gulf with the spot lock feature. I’m in Oklahoma and dragging a big boat to the gulf was not appealing to me. The Seadoo fish pro has been a great fit for me with so many features as mention by another post . If you decide to get a jet ski and utilize it for fishing, wishing you all the best and many good memories.

I used to do a lot of brown trout hunting in high mountain lakes. You have to get in tight in the fall to the shore and rip for them, looking for that reaction bite in their spawning beds. I would used an old aluminum boat as most of these lake were riddled with huge rock cropping all over. I always thought to myself how a jet ski would work extremely well for this method of fishing. This makes me want to get one and move back to the mountains. It’s an amazing platform. I wonder if anyone has mounted down riggers on one yet . Although lead core line would be efficient a down rigger would be pretty cool and you get a more precise depth while trolling.

nice setup and nice to see a fellow Okie with a trophy. Starting to think I was the only one. lol. Im installing a power drive with ipilot on a rear mount on my '22 Trophy in another week or so, getting it ready for spring bass / crappie on lakes in OK. I am going with a rear mount with battery tray as the whole assembly removes in seconds with the linq levers as I also use my ski for tubing kids and the wife and I load it down with camping gear when we go to the islands at Texhoma when we arent fishing. Have you had any any issues running the TM and getting water in the engine? I ask because BRP says not to tow above 5mph... and im assuming ski does around 5mph with the TM at speed.

Why add the trolling motor? The 2022 Seadoo Fish pro Trophy has built in trolling settings. What's the advantage of an electric trolling motor? Less sound?

The trolling mode on a Fish Pro is for setting lines out behind you and “slowly” dragging your bait behind you, the trolling motor is for “powering” your ski along and actively casting and retrieving, plus the added advantage of spot lock basically anchoring you in one spot.

Well to start with this, Jetski will travel 53 mph with two people on it. You can get a little over 100 miles worth of traveling on a tank of gas. The safety and stability of this craft is excellent for saltwater fishing. And if a storm comes up, you can get home in five and 6 foot swells. When you’re not fishing it will also pull a skier, wakeboard or tube. You can actually stand on the foot wells and it won’t turn over so it is a much safer and faster option. And then, of course there’s all the other extras like the Livewell, I have nine rod holders to carry my gear. Also have a Trolling motor mount and livescope set up. so needless to say, this outperforms a John boat by quite a large margin. I have spent a lot of time fishing in John boats of various sizes. The way this fish pro works I would compare it to the first time I had a tractor with a front in loader and ac in the cab. You just realize something better came along and you never looked back.

The self deploying Ulterra has an 80 pound thrust and requires 24 volts. 1 Lithium 24 volt battery would be the best choice for the trolling motor if using the Ulterra.

Great question. If you are only using the fish pro to troll, you do not need a trolling motor. However, if you want to catch different species of fish consistently, you will need the ability to spot lock over a structure or near structures. The fish pro will not hold you in spot lock without a trolling motor plus you are always having to keep your motor on racking up many many hours of wear and tear on your ski. Other work arounds is tying up to an oil rig but that can be dangerous due to waves and current. I have fished a lot on the gulf with and without a trolling motor. The ability to fish over a structure and hold your position will allow you to catch the fish that are biting. Yep, and sometimes trolling is the best technique depending on the type of fish you are pursuing. With the trolling motor you have a lot of flexibility. With the trolling motor your ski is turned into a complete fishing machine with the same advantages that other boats have but at a lower cost. Best wishes. Final mock up is almost complete. Then I’ll take it out for a very hard and vigorous trial run. I’ll then start posting videos on my KZbin channel. It’s called… oneoffoutdoors Then I’ll post videos on how you can order a mounting system. Also an installation video. It’s still to early to give exact dates and prices. But I’ll say this. For a very heavy built aluminum TIG welded and powder coated frame it will be very affordable and well worth the wait. Serious question: Why would I buy this instead of a cheap, used 2 person ski? I could add everything this has for a fraction of the price..? You could add a fish finder, mud rods and never spend this kind of money. Must be nice.

You could and should if that’s how you roll. I went with the Fishpro mainly because of its advanced engineering. First the balance and stability is ridiculous. I can stand on the footwell and walk from the back of the ski to the front. They are just almost impossible to turn over. This is due to the width, deep footwells and extended deck on the back. So the ski has a 4ft by 12ft footprint. Next the entire front end acts as storage. That means the whole steering column and everything lifts to expose a 2x2x3 foot storage bay. So no more reaching over the steering column to access storage. It has an IDF system that no new or old model has and I used it today. It is basically a reverse thrust that cleans out your intake. When I’m shark fishing in not interested at all in jumping into the water to manually pull out handfuls of floating sargassum sea grass or plastic bags. So you can go as shallow as you want and through the grasses if you want. It has a 170hp motor and it goes 54mph with both my wife and I on it. Will all the added extras/weight it goes 48mph. The Linq system to lock down the live well and other additional containers is just absolutely incredible. If you have ever spent time ratcheting down stuff to only have it come loose or the saltwater corrode them in 10 days then this system answer those prayers asap. It has a cruise control for trolling. Bluetooth sound system. USB port for phone. The forward and reverse shifters at the handgrips. So when I dock I can literally go sideways. It has a tow hook for tubing. A ski pole mount to ski from. It holds 3 passengers easily. There is actually more I could mention but if I were you I would go to a dealer and look at one. They have different models to choose from. Joe Mcadams and I are best friends and have been fishing buddies since we were 5 years old. Brother we have paid our dues. Fished out of everything including an old bathtub. So when you reach our age you gain a lot of wisdom. This ski is your base and then you build on that base to fit your needs. Their are some rear mounts out there that I have seen. I guess it depends on the kind of fishing you plan on doing. For my application with the livescope and in the gulf,the rear mount would not work for me. I would not put a trolling motor on the ski that does not have spot lock. If you were in the gulf, the waves would be approaching the back of the ski making it difficult to manage the ski in rough waters. Plus if you wanted to bass fish and bang the banks, trolling from the back would catch more drag. The rear mount is certainly less money but you may be a little limited on your fishing options. I have a 36 foot off shore Boat that I have 120 inch Vota I use for spot fishing and holding over ledges. It works absolutely perfect. I could see this just being a total game changer over ledges nailing the redfish grouper Bass and bottom fish.

I’m sorry for the delayed response. We worked with a fabricator to design the trolling motor bracket. I can tell you it is a game changer. It is a very long process getting the trolling motor bracket to a manufacturer that can mass produce it with an easy install. Get in touch with One Off Outdoors. I believe he is very close to getting the bracket ready for purchase.

I had a aluminum plate made to bolt behind the ladder bracket, to use as a flat surface to mount the transducer to, and it caught enough water behind it, that it worked against the steering, made it hard to control the ski, I had to take it back off!

That HUGE battery in the Rear SUCKS. It kills the foot area for the rear swivel fishing seat. I get it, you want the coolest shot on your PWC, but retrofitting BOAT SIZED gear on a PWC sucks. It would be nice if Seadoo would partner with farming and Minncotta to build a setup that will give Live scope, and a hold in place self deeply trolling motor that os designed for the fish pro. You are definitely on the right track, but it’s definitely a compromise that doesn’t necessarily have to be of the manufacturers would work together

Thanks for your note. The battery is the size of a standard marine battery but it is lithium so only weighs 25 pounds. I’ve seen other fish pro owners putting the battery in the ice chest which is just not practical. The ice chest/live well is too valuable to sacrifice the space for batteries. The fishing seat as it is has no value for a fishing angler unless u can use the old fashion anchor to sit on some structure. Perhaps it could be used in freshwater fishing for crappie but I have not found a use for it. I took it out of storage area for more space. While I have not used the fish seat elevated, if I was fishing the banks for bass or slowing fishing walleye, I would put my trolling motor on a contour line and follow the contour while sitting on the elevated seat. The battery would not be in the way for the most part. I do agree that Seadoo should make it much easier to accessorize the fish pro for the diehard anglers out there. The trolling motor has made the fish pro a very versatile fishing craft. The spot lock feature has made a huge difference fishing over structure in the gulf. The trolling motor bracket is almost ready to sell to other Seadoo Fishpro anglers. All the best

The way the transducer is mounted underneath the hill, the jets do not interfere with it at all. The side and down imaging works great. I do use the 2d sonar n the gulf as well which is the only feature I have with the non the hill Mount. The down and side imaging does not work mounted in the hull. Hope that helps you.

Great question but I do not believe so. The 170 HP works great for me. With all of my gear plus 230 pounds, it runs around 51-53 mph.

Do you find yourself getting backpain while being on the ski for extended amounts of time? wondering if its a thing considering there is not backrest

It is definitely a workout on a ski in rough water. Flat lake type water no problem. It’s just like driving a car compared to a motorcycle. On a motorcycle your body is fully engaged in the steering. On a ski it is definitely multiplied. The constant core workout in rough water or the action reaction you get from hitting other boat wakes. I would recommend renting a ski before you buy. Make sure your rental is a large ski as they are more balanced. They also ride and steer very differently from one of the small nimble skis designed to play around on. You want the touring model size. Also you can standup on a ski while driving which is very comfortable and your legs act as shock absorbers. The biggest problem for me is that my hands go numb due to carpal tunnel issues that I have.

No,that has not been a problem. I had back surgery in 4/22. Been in some rough waters in the gulf and my back is holding up great. Good luck! My ski has opened up a lot of options for me with both fresh and salt water. Good luck.

Hey Joel-sorry for the delayed response. I went with a 24 volt lithium battery. The lead batteries added to much weight to the Fishpro. The 24 volt lithium only weighs 25 pounds. So much lighter and last longer. I purchased the Dakota 50 amp 24 volt. It has an 11 year warranty. It was pretty pricey at 800.00 but there r other good 24 volt lithium batteries that r n the 600.00 range.

Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes, no problem with fishing 2. Especially with a trolling motor in spot lock. I would not feel comfortable taking a passenger with me n 4-6 ft swells. But, yes I have fished 2 on my ski in Destin catching several 6-8 ft sharks in the gulf. Very happy with my Fishpro with the added accessories.

We have the new design completed for a much easier install. The new mount is currently being powered coated and we will do a field test in the gulf toward the end of August. If the field test does not require any modifications, it will be available for sale in September. It will be sold through One Off Outdoors. We are doing everything we can to bring it to market at a reasonable price.

Yes-u still have plenty of room for the swivel chair if u want to use it. I have not found the chair to be that helpful.
