I just moved to an Ebike a Specialized Turbo Levo Comp and at 54yrs. old it has opened up a new world of riding for me. I’m tripping the amount of miles now each day and the fact than you can tune the Mission Control to whatever level and amount of help you want hits the sweet spot for a 20yr. Or 50yr. olds level.

I'm in similar situation (53.5 years old) and I have psoriatic arthritis that is making my feet and knees/hips hurt with lots of strain. I took a Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Carbon out (rented) for the afternoon and did 3x the miles and some crazy 5x altitude climbs (some were 15-25% grades in wash/broken rock climbs) and my legs and hips felt better after this ride than a much tamer normal ride. Plus, I found my heart rate was a bit more "controlled". OK, some of the 20%+ climbs still spiked me waaaay up. But I really think the e-mtb brings some balance and allows you to smooth out the peaks and ride in an aerobic range for longer than just a analog bike. I'm going to try to pick up my new GasGas Enduro 3.0 tomorrow (too good of a price deal).

I love my Ebike. I too go places I never would have gone without it. Also, the bike shuttles me up the climbing trails so I lap the great trails over and over. I still get an amazing workout; I just go further and farther than on an analog bike.

I love what you said about your new e-bike because that's almost verbatim what I tell other people about my Trek Rail 9.7 which I have ridden almost 2,000 miles since I bought it at the end of March of this year. I'm 64 and it allows me to go further, faster and longer than I would've ridden on my fattie. I just passed my 2022 goal of 300,000' feet climbed and I still have two months to go. I love my bike so much that I was clinically depressed when it was in the shop for three weeks. As you said, "Fall in love with it", and I have in a big way! Keep the great videos coming. I just watched your NYC ride which I enjoyed but also, I loved your tour of your fantastic MTB vehicle. In fact, I enjoy all of your videos, especially the rides that I do on a regular basis like Floyd Hill outside of Denver. Happy travels and I look forward to your next adventure! (Oh yeah, as the comment below says, a bell is really helpful since we are going so much faster uphill and downhill - hikers and other bikers thank me all the time for alerting them with it!)

Excellent video. Power settings tip: after a year of riding steep techy trails in Vermont, I use the following settings for the assist modes on my full fat 2021 Turbo Levo (set via Tune in Mission Control). ECO = support 25, peak power 40 (vs. stock 35/35) TRAIL = support 40, power 70 (vs 55/55) and TURBO (unchanged at 100/100). What the smaller support number does is give you a more natural pedal feeling (and better workout), larger power means less gear shifts or power mode changes. I rarely need Turbo with these settings and ride 80% in ECO with the higher power setting. Also I set ACCELERATION = 100 (helps when starting on a steep hill). For SL bikes, my friends love ECO=support 25, power 50, TRAIL = support 40, power 80, TURBO = 100/100 (unchanged). Looking forward to more videos 🚲

I love mine =) After my work injury (broke my back in a few spots), climbing was bad but walking uphill was worse. Levo is legit. Tuning the modes is a must on the app. I have turbo on 100/100, Trail on 80/80 or 60/80 depending on where I ride, and eco on 50/50. Shuttle and acceleration off. I have the same bike in the carbon black and love it. At 54 you could say I’ve been riding for a while now, and this is my favourite bike to date. This bike is extremely capable on the decents. I have it in the slack head tube position with the rear in the low position and it eats the chunk. I installed a Cascade Link on the rear suspension, and man what a difference. 10mm more travel with the stock shock, 8% more progression with a more supple off the top feel. I “highly “ recommend this upgrade. I would bottom the back end frequently with 3 tokens, now it’s perfect. The back tire also has way more traction with this link. I was also able to drop down to 2 tokens in the shock because of the added progression. Anyways congrats on a very sweet ride.
@nickjones57282 жыл бұрын
How much do you weight? I’m curious about the cascade link since it seems like I’m bottoming out the shock I installed one token and was going to add another to see if that helps Sounds like I may need the link!
@steve42962 жыл бұрын
@@nickjones5728 Hey Nick, I’m 178 with gear. One token isn’t enough unless you weigh less than 140lbs. Try two if that’s not helping then three. Make sure you adjust the psi to maintain you sag percentage. The more tokens you add the less psi you will need. Even with three tokens I would bottom out several times a ride. If you ride aggressively the link is a must imo.
@nickjones57282 жыл бұрын
@@steve4296 I will put in another token and give that a try. How many tokens you running in the fork?
@steve42962 жыл бұрын
@@nickjones5728 3 in the fork. But I had to do a air spring service from new because Fox has WAY too much grease in there most of the time. This made the fork bottom out even with 5 tokens in it. After the service I have 3 token and the fork now has progression without bottoming and feels great. If you haven’t done an air spring service you probably should.
@nickjones57282 жыл бұрын

Now maybe you can help us pressure the "powers that be" to allow Class 1 ebikes on ALL MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS... none of this little bit here and there BS. The USFS needs a slap upside the head. Repeatedly. I'm hoping to go hit a local trail at some point today for another quick ride. I'm in nowhere near as good a shape as you, but I'm trying to change, at least a little bit. I just bought one of these a week ago. I got the pro model. Mainly because it had the S-Works carbon and better suspension than the elite. I didn't really see the point in buying the full s-works version for 2k more, when I basically get a wireless dropper. The XO1 rear derailleur is fine on this for an EMTB. Don't really need wireless rear on a EMTB. But the pro feels perfect. Love the carbon wheels and bars.

The ebike I tested belongs to a State champion and former national caliber racer whom bought the bike specifically for near unrideable trails in Angel Fire,NM AT 8-9,000’ altitude. Problem I see with most “having the time of their life” on an ebike is they haven’t the skills to handle the sustained speed the bike allows endangering themselves and those around. They can go fast without prior fitness and skills development. ER doc I ride with confirms this!
