The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

We have a working fireplace that we use built original to our 1900s house. We got it fixed cleaned and so forth. Now i do want to get an insert for it but everywhere in iowa city, they sell like 2 fireplace inserts and then the rest is all gas.

I viewed your video in search of a replacement for my MFfire Nova 2, and your review proved to be quite informative. However, I observed some significant omissions regarding the Nova 2. One notable issue is the smoke expulsion when adding wood due to the stove's roof angle, prompting me to install an external fan connected to the air vent to prevent smoke infiltration during stove use. Additionally, the absence of an air vent control hampers the ability to regulate the burn, resulting in excessive wood consumption and the majority of the heat escaping through the chimney rather than being efficiently transferred into the home. Despite these drawbacks, the Nova 2 does offer a positive feature with its expansive glass door, providing a captivating view of the flames, and the window rarely accumulates soot. In my experience, while the Nova is an intriguing stove, its critical faults make it challenging to justify its inclusion in your top five recommendations.

IDK I think the last one IMO has tons of aesthetics, much more then the others. Maybe I am weird but that thing look awesome! Thanks for the info I will hopefully be doing a wood insert prior to winter. I’m already running a keystone joker lite in my garage and keeps the upstairs pretty nice. I want the adaptability when I lose power to be able to use a secondary heat source

I'm in Austria, Europe and have what's called in German a "wasserfuerender Kamin". This is a fireplace insert with a "water jacket" i.e. pipes that surround the fireplace box which connects to my plumbing and an 800 liter layered hot water storage tank. 75 percent of the heat goes to heat the water and 25 into the room. It cuts my oil costs in half or more. Just wondering why these don't seem to be sold in the U.S.? Enjoy your videos and learned a lot watching them before purchasing my own.

We don't do too smart things in the USA. Everything is made to be dummy proof as much as possible to reduce liability claims. This rules out a lot of smart products which requires operators with some understanding of how things work. İf the user has to call plumber time to time, that's not a good product.

The other thing is, most houses in the USA are wood construction. Not concrete. So any small or large water leaks can cause very expensive damage to the house. So people try to minimize water inside the house.

I owned a Buck insert for over 20 years and opted for another a couple years back. 4 cu.ft. Box and beautiful fire display. The large box allows me to load it up and forget about it most of the day. It was a beast to get into my raised hearth at nearly 600 lbs.

Yep you can at least on the steel top. It works fine, you just have to be careful because the water can potentially damage the finish on the stove top. If that happens, you may need to sand it and do touch up with some stove paint spray. For the most part, drops of water don't seem to affect the top at all -- just blot it up fast. We keep a pot of water on the top of the stove to humidify the house. Getting it to boiling can take a while -- I recommend using a single-walled stainless steel tea kettle with a whistle.

Great video. I recently purchased a Fusion 24 here in Canada. I really liked the fact it was "contemporary" and included a circulation chamber for installation. Although the minimum req of 19" depth was a lot. I noticed on mine, the little pullout details tab below the handle says not approved for sale in US after May 15th 2020. My unit was made in May 2021. Kinda funny, just curious if the models you guys have in the states say the same thing.

@@the.essentialman it's been great. Really puts out a lot of heat. Only thing I don't like is the auto Air control lever. I find it works great for the starting of the fire but it chokes the fire out whenever you wanna add firewood causing it to smolder. I've fixed that issue by bending it so it's not automatic anymore but rather manual control for air. Way better controlling the burn yourself anyways.

@@kevinpowers675 We bought the Montlake 300 so I can tell you from personal experience that it's pretty good. It has reburners on the top of it - so once you get it going, you're getting more BTUs as it burns the smoke again, which in turn makes it heat up quickly. From cold -- I run the first burn of about 4 logs (usually a mix of soft and hard woods) and some kindling/tinder with the flue fully open. Usually this takes about 1.5-2hrs to burn through and by then the firebox is hitting about 450-550F. Once those logs are just about down to coals, I'll throw in two more logs and once those catch, I set the flue to about an inch above closed. It runs 2 to 3 hours depending on the wood. Soft woods burn faster. Firebox will continue to climb above 600F and holds really well. Overnight if I throw in 4 logs at say 11pm, we will get heat through the night and by 6-7am we will still have hot and glowing embers underneath the ash. We had one cord to play with last winter and we managed to make it last from December into the beginning of March, while using normal furnace heat to supplement. This year we upped our cordage to three. The Montlake heats about 2400 sq ft easily -- our main and upstairs floors.
