I played with the configurator on Toyota's website (a very confusing configurator), and found out that Trail Edition package is available on SR5 trim only in double cab, 5ft bed with 4x4 3.5L with auto only. No manual. Manual is available on TRD trims only. Similar TRD Off-Road manual costs $3.5K less then Trail Edition.

3:18 There are dedicated threads where people cut off and re-route the exhaust so it's not sticking out under the truck. Wish I knew why Toyota thought it was a better idea to squeeze the exhaust into an oval and route it under the transfer case instead of just going around it with regular round tube.

A 2022 SR5 Trail Edition package without any additional options comes to about $41,300, fees included, on Toyota's website. You'd be better off getting a TRD Off Road. You get more bang for your buck!
@asymsolutions2 жыл бұрын
So regular SR5 Hitachis with lift springs front lift blocks rear, no fuel tank skid and some different looking rims/grill for a higher price than a TRD OR. Thankyou for confirming what many of us over at TW have been thinking, that this is a more expensive less capable truck. Considering the price difference if you have the extra grand, get the TRD offroad and factory lift kit.
@cnorton1us2 жыл бұрын
Seems like a pretty cool version of the Taco, though I agree it would be nice to offer the off-road goodies on a truly basic truck; especially if it could be had without the 4-door cab. I had a '97 Dodge Dakota that was probably about the same size as this (Tacomas of the '90's were a bit smaller), and though mine had the base V-6, it was available with the 5.2L V-8; that engine wasn't any wider or taller than the 6, just longer since it had another pair of cylinders. So I would think Toyota's smaller V-8 would fit, and they could do something truly awesome and offer it with a manual.

I really wish manufacturers would bring back small V8s. A Tacoma with a 6 or 7 speed manual transmission and a 4.0l V8 with the same technology this 3.5l V6 has would be about the perfect truck for daily driver duty. It would have around 300hp with a broader torque curve than the V6 for better acceleration and towing, and if you gave the engine cylinder deactivation so it could run as a 2.0l 4 cylinder at low loads it would have better fuel economy than the V6 as well. Unfortunately, nobody's likely to spend the money on tooling and R&D for this with everyone pushing to go all electric. I'm frankly disappointed with how quickly manufacturers skipped over hybrid technology in favor of an all electric future that our power grids and battery technology aren't likely going to be able to support for at least a decade or two after the arbitrary 2030 deadline most manufacturers have set for themselves.
@ahs95832 жыл бұрын
Design one and show it to them and maybe they buy your design. But I bet that u haven’t invented a small v8 with 300 horse power that give you at least 20 miles per gallon. Clown

I love this review. Tacomas are hard to come by but they had one just like this at a local dealership sooooo…I bought one. I actually love the truck. The built in storage in the back is NOT watertight. Sold as storage. ( yea I know, drivers side “doubles” as a cooler). Ruined some work gloves and ropes and extra jacket stashed in there when I opened them to find them filled with water. Dealership called Toyota Corp and were told the boxes are both coolers. Not true. Don’t store tools or anything you don’t want to get wet in there.
