@markm148 I bought the only affordable "truck" in 2023, a Ford Maverick. It was roughly 25k complete, with tax and shipping. Then the engine had a catastrophic failure at 7700 miles. It was replaced and I immediately sold it for essentially what I paid for it. It was a hybrid model. These outrageously expensive trucks are having similar failures. As a result I am driving a free 2002 Montero Sport. It is great.

amen on the over-featurization of trucks in the last 20 years. I certainly hope Toyota gets the manufacturing kinks worked out on this engine. Others are seeing more Tundra failures as more miles accumulate. Toyota cannot have that same problem on the Tacoma and upcoming 4Runner.

Toyota fanboy here, besides the silly prices .. the Turbo 4 is a concern. I've built a few turbo cars for fun, and the reality is I cant see a turbo anything going 250 - 300K miles. Not to get all techy, but high heat cycles, cylinder pressures, etc. are not a recipe for longevity. I bought a Tacoma specifically for the old fashioned reliability. Hope you get to test drive the manual. Flirting with the idea of getting one.

Simple is absolutely better. That's why I sold my 3rd gen taco to get a V8 4runner, instead of a 4th gen taco. No hybrid systems, no forced induction, no blind spot or lane departure sensors, just a simple rig with the legendary 2UZ. Oh, and it cost about 20% of one of these new rolling financial crisis.

You just have worry about one of the 30 computers failing and paying a ton of money to fix it lol. Those 4th gen being that old are seeing those issues

More manufacturers need to add that headlight adjuster on their trucks. For all the people that can't understand that headlights should be hitting the review mirror of cars infront of them

Totaly agree with you a NA 2.7 should be a thing and a turbo 2.7 should be a thing just to have more options it would easily make 30-40 more hp and 40-50 pounds more torque nice review!

Picking up a SR with a few options tomorrow, discount and trade value on my 2021 Taco made the deal. Hopefully not a mistake.
