@@bmack918 soo true, it was sticker priced which was ridiculous to begin with I think. My buddy dealer inventory Mgr orders for my local toyota dealership. He found 4 runner that i wanted on the boat from Japan . We eliminated all the extra pricy options bigger rims (hate those) privacy roll cover for storage ect. And the dealer tried to tack on 1600.00 extra mandatory fabric interior cleaner, 🙄 😒 but he made it show I put my request in before it started. So out the door I paid $40,500 for my nautical blue sr5 4×4 with tan interior. Love it, but shew.... my HD duramax kills this thing in mpg. Let’s be honest, nobody buys this to be the fastest (0-60), the most comfortable (body-on frame), the highest tech (JBL?), or for any other spec-sheet dick-measuring. The cab is the exact same size as the 2005. I had a 2012 TRD Off Road. I am 6'3 and I could never get comfortable and the seating position is brutal. I like Toyota and would get one again if they ever actually change the size of the cab and went with a turbo. I live in Wyoming and drive at elevation a lot and since going to the Ranger turbo it is night and day better than NA engine at elevation. Mostly I am just happy mid size options are now available and I think it will push Toyota to really improve the Tacoma.

The engine options for the Tacoma are definitely underwhelming. Always hear good things about the ecoboost in the Ranger and GM even offers a diesel in the Colorado/Canyon. But im not an off roader of any kind, and I have not been put in a position to where I wish I had one in the 6 years Ive owned mine. Truthfully, unless you're a full time contractor where you would need an 8 foot bed, youre not going to find a better pick up. Its easy to drive, its small enough to squeeze through tighter spaces, its easy to park too. It even has the ability to get up and go when you put your foot down. And the fuel mileage isnt a nightmare either. Its a well balanced practical truck when you dont buy a big package version like this. If you don't care about breaking down on the road, or don't care about your truck not lasting or holding value, then buy anything else other than a Tacoma; that is where it really shines. Watching this after the new Tacoma has been announced. That new TRD pro is wild. A very well equipped Baja truck that is no doubt fun to drive, as well as reliable being a Toyota. People are complaining about the hybrid power train I guess forgot Toyota has been making the Prius for like 20 years…. But even after seeing the new one, being in the market for a new truck. Have a 50k budget (even though that new one looks like it’s gonna start at around 60k before markups) I think I like this truck better, it’s the last of a dying breed. Just a good old leaf spring, no frills, off-roading reliable truck. I plan on keeping this truck for 20 years. I know for a fact this generation of Tacoma will last that long.

What I will say is the bed rating has gotta be a conservative estimate. I have an ‘03 ford ranger and have carried 2000+lbs in my bed multiple times. Sure it lifts the front end off the road but the little truck can pull it off. Also my dream truck at the moment is a TRD pro in the military green Color but sadly I’m not going to realistically be able to afford it any time soon so this video both excited me and made me greatly depressed. Good review and that was awesome I want one in that color. The good thing about crawl control and MTS like you said mimics a front locker is that it won’t give you steering issues like a front locker would. You can’t turn as good with a front locker on, also no human can do what crawl control does by applying the brakes individually to each wheel and sending power. The LX600 is becoming a grocery getter now, it’s not off-road oriented even though it has crawl control, low ground clearance and poor approach and departure angles makes it soccer mom car now not an off-roader. The best off-road vehicles from Toyota are the Tacoma and 4Runner, I just wish they kept making the FJ cruiser and that would be a 3rd option.

@@elkofcanada5003 yea I saw that one, most important change for off-road is the smaller wheels that’s it. Minor but important detail about locking diffs. They do *not* enforce a 50/50 torque split. An *open* differential enforces a 50/50 torque split 100% of the time. It always sends exactly the same torque to both sides, and torque only exists in the presence of a load, which is why if one side has no load (zero traction) and it takes little or no torque to spin it, then the other side gets the same little or no torque and you go nowhere. By contrast a locking differential actually allows the torque to go where it's needed which means the torque split side to side (or front to back) can be anywhere between 0/100 or 100/0 depending on available traction. In the situations where a locking diff is most useful, the torque split is never 50/50. I get that the wrong terminology is deeply ingrained in the way that people talk about locking and limited slip differentials, but it's still just wrong.

A very predictable video/truck.. And that's alright with me/buyers. Thing takes a lickin' and keeps on Tickin' Without getting stuck. Not sure if it has been mentioned before but, Ryan? Does this TRD Pro, still come in a Manual Transmission as well?

Tacoma doesn’t have CrewMax as a cab configuration…only access cab and double cab. The Tacoma TRD Pro only comes as a double cab which is the bigger of the two.
