Congrats dude! The Tacoma has a special place in my heart because I first learned to drive on my dad’s 1996 MT SR5. He still has it with 355,000 miles and it’s his daily driver. Great trucks for the money.

In light of today’s vehicle shortages and how dealerships are price gouging, do you mind if I ask if you got a fair price for your 4Runner?
@dtlusk24
@dtlusk24 2 жыл бұрын
@@bmack918 soo true, it was sticker priced which was ridiculous to begin with I think. My buddy dealer inventory Mgr orders for my local toyota dealership. He found 4 runner that i wanted on the boat from Japan . We eliminated all the extra pricy options bigger rims (hate those) privacy roll cover for storage ect. And the dealer tried to tack on 1600.00 extra mandatory fabric interior cleaner, 🙄 😒 but he made it show I put my request in before it started. So out the door I paid $40,500 for my nautical blue sr5 4×4 with tan interior. Love it, but shew.... my HD duramax kills this thing in mpg. Their are dealers that will make it only MSRP price only but have to do some digging to avoid the scum bags doing market adjustment stickers.

Let’s be honest, nobody buys this to be the fastest (0-60), the most comfortable (body-on frame), the highest tech (JBL?), or for any other spec-sheet dick-measuring. People buy the Tacoma because it’s a straightforward, no gimmicks truck that can get you anywhere AND back, last longer than your grudge for a cheating ex, and hold it’s value like you hold on to the “glory days” of high school.

The cab is the exact same size as the 2005. I had a 2012 TRD Off Road. I am 6'3 and I could never get comfortable and the seating position is brutal. I like Toyota and would get one again if they ever actually change the size of the cab and went with a turbo. I live in Wyoming and drive at elevation a lot and since going to the Ranger turbo it is night and day better than NA engine at elevation. Mostly I am just happy mid size options are now available and I think it will push Toyota to really improve the Tacoma.

The engine options for the Tacoma are definitely underwhelming. Always hear good things about the ecoboost in the Ranger and GM even offers a diesel in the Colorado/Canyon. EVs will eventually take over, so maybe it is not work the R&D spend at this point. My guess it Toyota goes turbo 4 cyl. in the meantime.

I have a semi bare bones Tacoma from 2016 I bought brand new. It doesnt even have 4 wheel drive. But im not an off roader of any kind, and I have not been put in a position to where I wish I had one in the 6 years Ive owned mine. Truthfully, unless you're a full time contractor where you would need an 8 foot bed, youre not going to find a better pick up. Its easy to drive, its small enough to squeeze through tighter spaces, its easy to park too. It even has the ability to get up and go when you put your foot down. And the fuel mileage isnt a nightmare either. Its a well balanced practical truck when you dont buy a big package version like this. Im only saying this in case someone is reading comments while theyre truck shopping

Ryan you think the Tacoma is uncomfortable...i had a JEEP rental....that made the Taco a limo in comparison. The Tundra is more comfortable. I find it better for long trips and towing. The Tacoma is an awesome truck and has a reputation for all out reliability. I think the TRD OFF ROAD is better when money is a concern. The Taco ate your test track up like all 3 meals. I am not a huge fan of the this green tho. I like the blue better Great review....have been waiting for this one for several days.

Why do reviewers harp on the autonomous nonsense? I make my money by traveling and rent cars constantly. I've seen most of what's out there and man am I so happy when a car just lets me drive without blinking at me and shaking the seat whenever I'm in rush hour traffic, much less trying to override my driver inputs.

If you don't care about breaking down on the road, or don't care about your truck not lasting or holding value, then buy anything else other than a Tacoma; that is where it really shines. All the little things that the other trucks have, you can buy aftermarket for the Tacoma. Yes Toyota sucks for not giving us more in the truck with the insane price tag, but the Truck lasts and is reliable.

Watching this after the new Tacoma has been announced. That new TRD pro is wild. A very well equipped Baja truck that is no doubt fun to drive, as well as reliable being a Toyota. People are complaining about the hybrid power train I guess forgot Toyota has been making the Prius for like 20 years…. But even after seeing the new one, being in the market for a new truck. Have a 50k budget (even though that new one looks like it’s gonna start at around 60k before markups) I think I like this truck better, it’s the last of a dying breed. Just a good old leaf spring, no frills, off-roading reliable truck. I plan on keeping this truck for 20 years. I know for a fact this generation of Tacoma will last that long.

What I will say is the bed rating has gotta be a conservative estimate. I have an ‘03 ford ranger and have carried 2000+lbs in my bed multiple times. Sure it lifts the front end off the road but the little truck can pull it off. Also my dream truck at the moment is a TRD pro in the military green Color but sadly I’m not going to realistically be able to afford it any time soon so this video both excited me and made me greatly depressed. Great review.

Good review and that was awesome I want one in that color. The good thing about crawl control and MTS like you said mimics a front locker is that it won’t give you steering issues like a front locker would. You can’t turn as good with a front locker on, also no human can do what crawl control does by applying the brakes individually to each wheel and sending power. The LX600 is becoming a grocery getter now, it’s not off-road oriented even though it has crawl control, low ground clearance and poor approach and departure angles makes it soccer mom car now not an off-roader. The best off-road vehicles from Toyota are the Tacoma and 4Runner, I just wish they kept making the FJ cruiser and that would be a 3rd option.
@elkofcanada5003
@elkofcanada5003 2 жыл бұрын
It's worth mentioning the LX600 has a special trim with 18" wheels with more tire sidewall and some other changes. I think it's to make up for the lack of the LC in the US market now.
@fouUili684
@fouUili684 2 жыл бұрын
@@elkofcanada5003 yea I saw that one, most important change for off-road is the smaller wheels that’s it. Still has shitty approach angles which is its main problem but I guess you can fix it with an after market bumper. I just wish it came from factory with high clearance front and rear bumpers or offer it as an option

I’m 5’7” and own a 20 SR5 double cab long bed 4x4. The seating position is very different than my fleet owned Silverado work truck, that feels like siting in a kitchen table chair in comparison, way more upright. I like the cabin setup and I have two young kids in the back (it’s nice that they’re always within reach) but I can see how anyone larger than me or people who want to haul adults in the back would not like this cabin. Great review and I dig the silly unique trd colors even though I’m boring and got Magnetic grey metallic on my Tacoma.

Another amazing review. I don’t know why Toyota seems to keep inventory low compared to other manufacturers. I think this is done on purpose to keep prices high.

It's because of their production issues caused by chip shortage and supply chain disruptions. I don't think they were as well prepared for this crisis as they thought. Prices for vehicles are high right now because automakers have to pass their increased costs to make a car to consumers.

@@Offshore1977 Yeah. I agree. I work in the automotive industry and the dealers are making big profits right now since they don't have to give incentives and discounts to MSRP like before (also, markup helps). Selling a lot of cars is very different than selling profitable cars. Dealers don't buy cars from automakers at the same price they sell to us.

it's strange how big major manufactures designing their interiors looking like 80's scifi film, box tacked on box (infotainment with vents) while they can print out plastic and foam anything they want... i guess it takes more time and gets more expansive to make integrated design

Good, honest review. I will guess the next generation will be nice for on-road driving. I like the Frontier more this year.

Great review of this awesome off-road machine Ryan. If I remember correctly the new sequoia with off-road package or TRD Pro has all the off-road features this Taco has which is exciting. Can’t wait for you to review the new sequoia on the same course

My 1988 Lincoln Town Car is a body-on-frame and it tracks straight all the time it has nothing to do with the unibody have to do with the suspension in the steering.

Will the frame rust through in 5 years? 😅
@moloono1
@moloono1 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Toyota took care of that issue in 2015 after they replaced/fixed every single Tacoma that had the problem AND made improvements to the frame going forward.

I love the Tacoma, and new color... but it's hard to ignore that it looks like something from 2014. For 50k, it's hard to argue this vs competition.

My dealership didn't have a pro and other dealers had older year pros for the same price as the 22 off road limited. So, I bought new for msrp.

Minor but important detail about locking diffs. They do *not* enforce a 50/50 torque split. An *open* differential enforces a 50/50 torque split 100% of the time. It always sends exactly the same torque to both sides, and torque only exists in the presence of a load, which is why if one side has no load (zero traction) and it takes little or no torque to spin it, then the other side gets the same little or no torque and you go nowhere. By contrast a locking differential actually allows the torque to go where it's needed which means the torque split side to side (or front to back) can be anywhere between 0/100 or 100/0 depending on available traction. In the situations where a locking diff is most useful, the torque split is never 50/50. I get that the wrong terminology is deeply ingrained in the way that people talk about locking and limited slip differentials, but it's still just wrong.

Awesome video! Now go back and do the same trail with your 4Runner again! In fact you should always use the 4runner as a side by side comparison in each video. Lol, don’t listen to me though, I’m just a 4runner owner who lives too far from the trails. I have an itch that needs to be scratched.

Tacoma doesn’t have CrewMax as a cab configuration…only access cab and double cab. The Tacoma TRD Pro only comes as a double cab which is the bigger of the two.
