Love your videos. I've got an older model, NX, tires have smaller knobbier. Oh, mine is a 27.5. Love the dropper post. Now mine over lots of bigger than baby heads sized rocks, seems to bounce me a lot. I'm 5'10" and 79 yo now and really love it. OK, as to the 29er vs 27.5, I would respectfully disagree. My 29er's always feel very high, while the 27.5 is so much more nimble, corners so well and does not seem to fight me with inertial. Now that could be just be me at my skill level, but I'd say that 27.5s would be better for folks who have not developed turning skills to much. Oh, and on the trail I drop the seat post about an inch for the trail, then descending drop it more. Blessings, although this is too late for lots of viewers.

I ordered a roscoe 9 on 5/21/22 and got it 6/1/22. It is sick, definitely gonna take a little getting used to because the head angle is 4 degrees less that my other bike, 2019 giant fathom1 29er. According to my LBS, I am the first in Idaho to get one, I can't wait to get it on the trails

Paused at 3:08 to comment about that. I took my new FX out on it's first ride ever yesterday, I brought along Allen wrenches to make adjustments to the saddle height. I had to stop no less than 10x to slightly raise it:) Yes, it's a "feeling" as if it is too low, because I look at my knee in the down position and it's just slightly bent. Maybe I'm just not used to the dramatically more upright position compared to the road bike I've been riding since '91.

I picked up my 2022 Roscoe 8 after waiting 9 months for it! It's an awesome bike. Once the brakes bed in they're plenty strong. In my opinion Trek really didn't cheap out much of anywhere, A lot of companies would have thrown 2 pot brakes, and a smaller front rotor on there to pinch pennies, not to mention the stock Bontrager hubs on the 8 and 9 are really nice compared to most stock hubs. It would have been nice to have a nicer fork at the price of the 8, and I would have sacrificed the GX groupset to upgrade the fork, but the Rockshox Gold 35 will do for a few years before I decide to upgrade it.

I'd reccomend a marlin 5 to most people who are just starting out. The bike is easily upgradable (or tradable) if you outgrow it and the gear set on the 5 is better than the 6 if you want to use it as a reliable commuter bike or to go bumming around town with friends. The 6 and up are great for beginner to intermediate riders because of the 1x but they aren't nearly as versatile as the marlin 5 with the 2x drive train.
@kwaktak
@kwaktak 2 жыл бұрын
As somebody who came from a 26” hardtail that was one size too small I’d say go with a 29er in your proper size. If you’re between sizes then go toward the smaller size. As a beginner who wants to ride trails but also have something that will serve you on walking trails or commuting I’d say go with the Marlin 6. I don’t think even the current ‘22 Marlin 5 (which I recently bought my son) is really trail ready. You need that 1x with a clutch. You can always upgrade the fork to a Roxkshox Judy solo air for at least $200.

I think a trek roscoe 6 is beginner friendly due to pricing and its easy to handle. Compared to a marlin, roscoe 6 gives more confident going down over small bumps and jumps. Big 29 wheels are less easy to manouver at lower speeds and beginners usually go a bit slower.

When they changed the geometry, they made it a totally different bike, so the distance from the handlebars to the seat feels different same with reach to the pedals, the length of the wheelbase, etc.. It's possible even that neither size will feel as good to you as the one you have, so it's good to try them all. You might need to go to a different kind of bike, or even changing the neck or handlebars can make it feel better, it's a matter of a few centimeters that we're talking about here, but it definitely matters as you know from experience. For the new rider, it depends on what they really want, if her idea of mountain biking is riding the paved trails out in the parks, then the cheaper bikes work better, if she really wants to ride offroad, or if she rides with other people who already do off road trails (which means that's what she'll be doing mostly) then buy the best bike you can afford and grow into it. Women have different needs for bike size, which is why Giant offers the Liv make and Trek has so many different sizes on the lower scale to fit women better. Bigger tires do make rollover easier, but the bike tends to feel bulkier and less nimble and if you're 5'2" weighing 100 pounds, the bigger bike and wheels might feel uncomfortable. Everyone is different, the best advice for her is to ride lots of stuff before buying!

Just my opinion. Unless you have a long torso for your height, I would stay with the medium based on that saddle height....if that was your actual saddle height at the beginning of the video. I've read that a significant percentage of mtb riders purchase bikes that are too big. All only my opinion. Great videos!

The difference in size between the M and M/L is only about 1/2'" of seat tube length. I find that it's not really tha much of a difference and most of that is negated by where you have your dropper post set to. If it's feeling a bit small you can always raise that dropper a little to give you the length in the climbs. The reach between the two is almost negligeable so I don't know that you will really notice any difference between . Perhaps it just needs a different stem and bar setup.

You know, you made me look at the bike range, and I have to say for the '22 model I kind of feel like the 7 is the best deal. I had no idea the 8 is pushing $2400! That's a good bike and all, but man for that money you can get a LOT of hardtail. Frankly you can get a decent amount of softtail too... I also prefer the Shimano drivetrain on the 7 personally, though the one on the 8 is still very good of course. You're basically paying $600 for upgraded brakes and a definitely better but not that much better fork. I'm not sure you'd really be able to tell the difference if you rode them side by side, aside from the different noise from the drive train. I know you're not really into doing bike mechanic stuff, so it probably makes the most sense for you to buy things the way you want them, but I really think in that price range you can shop around and get something you might even like better.

Something else to consider is the rear hub. The 8 and 9 come with a rapid drive 108 point hub, while 6 and 7 do not.
@saahilshaik9024
@saahilshaik9024 2 жыл бұрын
i see what youre saying but i do have to say, theres a lot of stuff better about the '22 8 from the 7. For example, apart from the better drivetrain and the significantly better fork that you get on the 8, you also get a rear hub with 108 point of engagement. That is a very big deal to a lot of people and make a way bigger difference than you would think. If you've never tried it, you'll never be able to tell, but it is night and day difference. Also, you get 203 mm rotor in the front and 180 in the back with the 8 and 180F/160R with the 7. The brake caliipers are also upgraded on the 8 from 2 piston the 7 to 4 piston on the 8. and though its not much, you lose a pound of weight. i think its just higher quality components. but youre absolutely right, the roscoe 7 is the bike to get for a lot of people.

It looks nice, but I have a feeling trek cheaped out again on the bike. They slapped on an NX shifter and NX cassette with the standard HG hub driver instead of the actual GX stuff. Yeah its only a cassette and shifter, but It would have been nice to have the actual GX groupset since the GX shifter feels god-like compared to the NX. The brakes also are not the greatest. They are 4 pistons but they dont use the servo-wave tech like the deore, slx, xt... use which comparing the power and initial bite the stock brakes completely loose out on. Aside from that the rotors are great since they are metal pad compatible and the BB is threaded for once! As for the price, its not bad, could have been better but with the current bike and part situation its reasonable.
