2022 USA BMX Grands - Drew Polk

I felt amazing at the Grands this year. Everything was clicking and I made almost zero mistakes on the track. To begin, on Friday I won the Race of Champions (ROC) in 17-20 Open and 17-20 Expert, defending both of those plates. Later that night I raced the NAG 5 Challenge, where I was in the top 3 and went down in the last turn. I won 10/11 laps on Friday, only dropping the NAG 5 Main.
One of my main goals for this season was to win the National Amateur Title. I chased this all year and won almost all of the biggest nationals to earn myself the most points possible. This was critical, as it set me up in a great spot for Grands, sitting #1 with a big points lead.
I won all my laps up to the semi and qualified for the Main. “With a podium, Drew Polk will be your National #1 Amateur.” And with that, I finished 3rd and won the National Title. This was only possible because of my dedication and success all season, and that’s what it takes to win championships.
This is one of the biggest accomplishments of my life so far and I couldn’t have done it without so many people. I’d like to thank my parents for everything they do for me, my coach Donavon Long for getting me to this point and always pushing me, @_camwood and his family for playing a huge role in my Grands preparation, @niclong64 for putting up so much money for all of us racers and doing everything he does for the sport, and all my sponsors: @factorylsg @atlasbrace @6dhelmets @gformbike @ridestacyc @tbone_bmx @pro_gate @boxbmx @htcomponents @surfacesunscreen @veetireco @odigrips @gaerneusa @thormxofficial.

That building looks like the old Tulsa Expo Center. If so, I raced there a few times in the '80s for Free Agent (Co-Factory Team). The Tulsa nationals are the only one I did yearly; the rest was local Texas & Oklahoma single, double, and some triple-point races. I am glad to see BMX is still going strong. Great riding, Polk!
