I was under the impression the monthly battery lease fee is not just to replace the battery if it degrades to less than 70% but also covers any repair/service if the battery is wonky, ie a warranty. For a peace of mind, $35 for 310 miles per month or $110 for unlimited miles, I wouldn't mind those dollar amount for peace of mind. Heck, we pay monthly cable, spotify, gym membership, phone plan, etc.

So what you are essentially saying is, it's okay for manufacturers to produce wonky cars at this point? Most new ICE cars these days can easily go through their first decade of use without any major issues, and those that have developed faults are to be recalled and repaired FREE OF CHARGE. Now here we are in the so-called bright new electric age of motoring, instead of making cars like they were and last a decade or two with minor work, they tie us into payment plans for just one component of the car and we have to pay a monthly fee just to keep our cars running? How absurd is that? Granted, batteries are wear and tear items, but it is also part of the drivetrain and therefore should last for a reasonable amount of time before it needs to be serviced.

I second your comment about the front look, it is a bit busy and I wish the door knob is flushed to the body like Vf9. Otherwise, it is a good overall SUV with tons of new technology which you would expect from EV but only Tesla and Huyndai Ioniq5 seem to offer that. This VF8 looks like a real deal. With $12K credit ($7.5 from federal, $2k from CA, and $3k from Vinfast voucher for signing up early), so the VF8 Plus would cost me $40K. I am ok to pay $110/month batt lease with a peace of mind not having to pay $20K for a batt replacement after 10 years. The story of Pininfarina's VF8 design. They say that the VF8 is a complete 3-in-1 combination of three-in-one style: - The elongation of a luxury sedan - Premium protection of an SUV - And show the playing quality of a 2-door Coupe. Along with delicate curves combined with strong edges, the interior of Vinfast VF8 is also neat, beautiful, and generous, not simply a car, VF8 is a work of art. . Personally, I find it as beautiful as the Porsche Cayene. Two car proportions (basic electric cars are allowed to be longer at both ends), similar style. So far, the world has recognized Italian car design as the pinnacle of car design. For people with artistic thinking, with renaissance culture, home of the houses with illustrious geniuses such as: Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Danatello, Lorenzo Bernini, ... located the fashion capital of Milan.

The “battery lease” concept may be a way to avoid the “cell-phone obsolescence” model that appears to apply to current EVs-i.e. dispose of vehicle once battery life drops below acceptable limits. However, depending on the pricing, I am not sure that I am comfortable with a TaaS model of vehicle ownership in the U.S.. We have too many highway miles and distances between destinations, particularly in rural and suburban areas. It may make sense for urban residents, where mass transit exists, but otherwise it seems like a cynical cash grab on already premium-priced vehicle.

I understand that the leasing plan seems like a bad deal for most people. The feeling of not owning the car completely plus monthly payment is definitely not pleasant. But from my experience as an EV user for almost a year, I think leasing the battery definitely makes sense. The battery is the heart of the car and it is surprisingly easy to be misused and damaged by first time users. You have to take care of it very carefully but it is still a fragile component in nature, at least with the current state of technology. The cost of fixing or replacing a battery is high and I think most of us know about the exploding Tesla car video as an example. So a reasonable leasing plan would eliminate all the risks and anxiety of maintaining your battery. Another good reason to go for it is that the battery technology is still rapidly evolving and new generations of battery packs are coming in the next few years. A leasing plan will keep your battery up to date without having to invest in a new model. Overall, I think it definitely brings good benefits to customers who prioritize peace of mind.
@fcg243
@fcg243 2 жыл бұрын
That is what the warranty is for. You’re covered for 10 yrs if the battery is faulty or looses charge. Leasing a battery on an EV is just another way for a manufacturer to make profit on the vehicles they sell and will just scare off potential EV buyers.
@petabk87
@petabk87 2 жыл бұрын
@@fcg243 A battery wears out and its performance gradually decreases over time just by using it. A warranty does not cover that. After 3-4 years of using an EV regularly we'll have to replace its battery which may cost thousands. So by leasing a battery you have your upfront payment for a car reduced, you always use a good performance battery and you don't have to worry about buying a new one after a few years. You just choose to spend a big amount right away and once every few years, or spend small amounts monthly over time. If the rate is reasonable then it's a good option.

@@chungloankenny I admit that I don't know how long does it takes for an average car battery to degrade to 70% (at this point we will want to replace). 3-4 years is just my guess. I think time will tell how well the new brands do in comparison to Tesla. I think Tesla's price range is way higher than "affordable" for most people so we can't expect to much from lower priced EVs.

Let's say you own the Tesla, while battery replacement reports from stateside owners of the Model S outside of warranty are few and far between, they have found a few cases where a full battery replacement visit has cost up to $20,000.
@hoangdung9086
@hoangdung9086 2 жыл бұрын
Experts suggest that EV batteries often last from 10-20 years or theoretically last forever. However, EV battery degradation to below 70% is bound to happen at some point depending on the driving habits, charging habits, speeds, the temperature, road conditions, and more. As a result, several federal regulations require manufacturers to warranty EV batteries for 8 years or 100,000 miles to ensure the batteries hold at least 70% capacity. In reality, a Finish man's 2013 Tesla Model S after 8 years started showing error codes while the mileage display was less than 100,000 miles in December 2021, and the only fix was a $22,600 full battery replacement, which was half of the price the EV retails for, and his final choice was sadly to blow it up instead of replacing the battery! Here is the point, when you buy a Tesla, the price includes the battery, which mean you pay $22,600/8 years = $2,825/year or $235/month, plus an additional energy charge of $0.045/mile (per energysage) or $45/1,000 miles/month (the average American drives about 1,000 miles/month, according to the US Department of Transportation). Altogether, you pay $235/month + $45/month = 280$/month for the battery and energy charge to own a Tesla for about 8 years or with 100,000 miles. However, VinFast battery leasing program offers an unlimited-mile fixed lease option, you pay only $110/month for the 5-seater SUV VF8, and $160/month for the 7-seater SUV VF9. Remember these are fixed monthly charges, which means no monthly price changes for the life of the lease with unlimited miles. Also with the battery leasing program, VinFast backs its batteries with a lifetime warranty and says it will replace the unit for free once the battery capacity drops below 70 percent. This means a VinFast driver will NEVER ever worry about the $22,600 bill to replace the battery! In addition, VinFast offers a limited warranty coverage of 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first; and this is the longest warranty coverage ever done by an EV maker. VinFast is such a rare combination of BMW and Pininfarina! VinFast is a stylish, modern and premium EV at a reasonable price! The choice is now yours!

Why would anyone compare a brand that known for re-skinned design of bmw, and Chevrolet , and got discontinued in 2 1/2 years, their sold vehicles price plummeted, people lost 1/2 of the car value within month of purchase 🤮. I’m Vietnamese I wouldn’t support this disingenuous company . There was a customer that had bought Vinfast Lemon, voiced his opinion on his newly purchased vehicle 65k usd, it broke down like 10 times within a few months. So he use KZbin platform to ask Vinfast to fix it in a nice way. Vinfast action were atrocious. Their respond to his KZbin video was a legal action “ criminal “ not even civil lawsuit. They wanted to shut him down and imprisonment for this 23 years old boy. Vinfast even say on their website and told reporters, if this happens in America they would still pursue legal action against anyone that badmouth their products

@@minhnguyen-fr5zq you've made a lots of claims regarding Vinfast cars without any proof. Their gasoline cars still sell well in March 2022 because they give customers 10 year warranty which is never heard of in Vietnam. There're 2 VinFast EV models coming out: VF8, a 5-seater SUV and VF9, a 7-seater SUV. With the battery leasing program, a VinFast car driver will never worry about the $23,000 bill to replace the battery, and all VinFast batteries will be appropriately recycled to safely protect the environment. Surprisingly, after the US federal tax credits for EVs, VinFast VF8 costs only about $32,000, which is unbelievably cheap for a 5-seater electric SUV, and the 7-seater electric SUV VF9 is probably about $46,000 after the tax credits. Best of all, VinFast offers a limited warranty coverage of 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first; and this is the longest warranty coverage done by an EV maker. All of these truly set VinFast apart from other EV manufacturers. Still have no glue about VinFast? Just consider it as a "twin of BMW", literally. In fact, driving a VinFast car is like driving "another BMW" -- a luxury car sold at an affordable price, and designed by world famous Italian car design firm Pininfarina!
