Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro. The advanced Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro system, standard on all GTI models, presents drivers with a fully configurable 10.25-inch display with three views and 21 viewing options, including car status, navigation, driving data, phone information, driver assistance features, and more. Models equipped with the Discover Pro infotainment system with navigation are able to display a full screen map in the digital cluster and simultaneously on the center display.
User experience designers have developed a unique GTI graphics layout for the standard Digital Cockpit. It can be opened using the new “View” button on the steering wheel and consists of a combination of three round instruments: the rev counter with GTI logo in the center surrounded by one round instrument each on the left and right. These can be individually assigned, for instance to show the engine’s boost pressure or the current power output.
MIB3 Infotainment. All 2022 GTI models feature innovative Volkswagen MIB3 touchscreen infotainment systems. The displays utilize a capacitive-touch sensor (as in smartphone and tablet technology) rather than the more common resistive touchscreens that require pressure, enabling controls like swiping and even pinch-zooming. Bluetooth technology for compatible devices is standard, as is App-Connect smartphone integration for compatible devices, which offers users the ability to run select smartphone apps directly on the vehicle’s display through services such as Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and MirrorLink®.
The GTI S features a Composition Color MIB3 infotainment system with a glass-covered 8.25-inch display, wireless charging for compatible devices, multi-phone pairing, HD radio, and four USB-C ports-two front, two charge-only rear. The GTI SE and Autobahn upgrade to Volkswagen’s Discover Pro unit with navigation and a 10-inch display, voice control, and SiriusXM® with 360L (three-month Premium Plan trial). With a paid Car-Net Hotspot subscription and Plus Nav package, maps can be automatically updated with current traffic and construction information.
The GTI’s EA888 evo4 engine displaces 1984cc and produces 241 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque at just 1,750 rpm. The evo4 engine is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed DSG automatic transmission with Tiptronic®.
DCC. The Golf GTI Autobahn features the latest version of the DCC adaptive damping system, which manages the suspension’s rebound and compression rates individually, helping to improve vehicle dynamics. The DCC adaptive damping system continuously reacts to the road surface and driving situation while taking account of various inputs including steering, braking, and acceleration. By means of the set driving profile mode, the driver can influence the reduction in body motion as desired. The required damping is calculated for each wheel and adjusted within fractions of a second. This ensures that DCC always provides the highest level of driving comfort and ideal driving dynamics in conjunction with the vehicle dynamics system. For example, “Comfort” optimizes the dampers for a smooth highway ride, while “Sport” favors a firmer setting for better cornering performance.
In the latest DCC generation, the vehicle setup can be extended in “Custom” mode to go beyond the existing range of the fixed “Comfort,” “Normal,” and “Sport” modes. The driver can set and store their personal driving profile using a digital slider to adjust damping firmness. Beyond the “Comfort” setting, the body is isolated from the road surface as much as possible. Beyond “Sport” mode, there is an extended setting range with maximum damping for minimized body movements and extremely direct handling for that unbridled GTI feeling.

I got my Pomelo Yellow 6 sp manual Autobahn back in December, it took me about a week to get used to the screen and Haptic Touch buttons, no issues on my end or my car, This is my fourth Golf/GTI (have had a 2000 Golf, a 2007 Rabbit, a 2015 GTI SE and now this) and this one is by far the most fun n to drive of them all

My story is the same as yours. I have a Pomelo Yellow and it's my fourth, ( 02, 06, 17) too. I am absolutely in love with this car! Also the color is the coolest out right now. It feels great turning heads everywhere I drive!

@@deanspeer2219 update! I am having a lot of glitches on the cockpit and infotainment screen, a lot of random stuff. For example: the “travel assist” signal is popping up stating is not available although I haven’t engaged it, it comes on and off intermittently. The ventilated seats turn on its own, the heated steering wheel function turns on, on its own, the infotainment screen freezes, the sound equalizer changes settings on its own, the odometer “view setting” changes on me randomly to a different view and changes back to my liken setting. Today I went to the dealership (made an appointment) to ask if the car could be looked at and if it had to do that a software update was needed. Was informed on the spot, that it is an issue they are aware of, that it is happening to all mk 8 GTI’s, that they have made VW aware of the issues GTI owners are having, and that there is no solution for it as of today. They believe a software update could fix the glitches but none is available. They don’t know when one will be available and hey don’t know if it will be an OTA one or if I will have to bring the car in. 🥺 I was wondering if you are having any similar issues, my car was manufactured in September 28, 2021 according to the commemorative plaque VW mailed to my house.

Sometimes my sensors stop working and the radio wont play. Usually I turn off the car for awhile and then it works again the next time. My crash sensors come on for no reason and sometimes the auto brake engages for no reason. Hopefully VW will fix these bugs soon. Other than that Iove my car!

You guys are making me not want to get one...sold on the chassis, brakes, suspension, sound isolation etc but man I had a fear of the electronics bugging out.

One day in the future someone is going to produce a car with real buttons, switches and knobs; instead of touch-pads and touch-screens, and people are going to say, "Hey, this is great! Why aren't all cars like this?"

Germans are great at over-engineering and making something more complicated than it needs to be. It's still a sexy car and I'd buy one - well the Golf R is the one to get! Great video and it was fun watching you work that stick! ;)

It almost seems like you would have to re-train yourself driving habits of where you put your hands on the wheel, etc. - so in essence, VW is asking the driver to work around (them), instead of them working around the driver in this car. As cool as the tech is, I think it's too much distraction and not enough simplicity for driving safely without several things working against and surprising you without the driver's intentions, and they should re-think this in future models. The GTI (was) on my possibilities list - not now.. Thanks for another good review.

I bought a 2022 GTI S. The steering wheel buttons aren't bad, but having to do everything from the main touchscreen is awful. Give me my buttons back!

Among all the manual R/ GTI s POV videos I've seen are all around empty streets or highways..none so far I've seen in city.. DC, NY,LA or Chicago..

I went to the dealership and was in a 2022 GTI. I HATE the stupid capacitive buttons and controls! Compared to the MK7/7.5 it is horrendous. Salesman was trying to persuade me in getting an MK8 and I told him no thank you. They also had the audacity to mark it up +$5k MSRP.

my 2019 7.5 R stick of course is the standard of excellence, all this touch screen stuff is so un german like, but i guess they have to do, cus others have it...it sucks. Physical buttons are safer, and more logical

Thanks so much for the review. I ordered a GTi last month and I would like to know how supportive are the seats? I have lower back pains. Thinking of going on a road trip whenever the car arrives.

I own 2022GTI, to me I didn't find the seat comfortable, though be advised Im 5,5ft and have neck issues. Other than the seats the car is great!

In my opinion the prior gen Golf Mk7 is the peak perfect balance between technology and driver safety/ comfort too much tech in these new cars is not practical and it's not gonna Last long
