I get the feeling that the truck was specked out specifically for launching a boat just as much for a job site! 😃 everything just came together so smooth air bags, retractable step, remote tailgate and if needed 4x4. rear airbags one of the things I really like on my wife's sequoia and just made hooking to the trailer a little easier than my tundra,eventually i will add a set but the factory set up is just nice.
@thomas7770 Жыл бұрын
Should have backed the truck up further and pushed the boat off by hand. Just have your family stand on the dock and hold a line attached to the boat while you park your truck. Let’s not prolong the process, just pull the boat up to the dock via the line, jump in, and get off the dock quickly. Never start a boat in less than three feet of water especially a jet boat. When you tie your boat up to the dock you want to use a figure 8 on the cletes with your lines. Cross the two safety chains under the tongue. Don’t ever leave the helm of your boat with it in forward or reverse. All passengers should be wearing pfds.
@jdinthekeys2 жыл бұрын
I’m only offering advice for the future. When you can minimize the amount of power needed for loading and unloading you save all ramp users the ramp debris that causes damage to all motor boat drive systems. Go in deeper and try to use idle only power. It’s protective of all equipment and all nearby people too.

One very minor observation. When hitching the boat to the truck we cross-cross the chains when hooking them to the truck underneath the hitch. That way if the trailer comes off the hitch the chains will catch it and keep it from dragging on the road.

Always cross the safety cables. It makes a cradle for the tongue of it comes off. And I believe the hitch you have, it is designed to be left in the down position when coming down on the ball, it will raise and lock it self back down letting you know that it is secure.

Don't use the torque wrench to take nuts off. I've learned that could damage the torque reading when using it to properly set torque values. Besides that thank you for the video. It makes me feel more comfortable with the idea of owning a boat. Do you know the full weight of trailer with the boat all loaded and ready to go? And tongue weight?
@tiverton2 жыл бұрын
I don't know the weight. I estimate it around 8000. My truck can pull 22,000 lbs with conventional hitch with 2000 lbs tongue weight, so I never bothered to weigh this rig. The hitch I use is rated to 20,000 lbs.

I've never seen it taught in this manor. A stiff wind on wake on the bow and it can turn parallel to the dock. docking to one you simple throw a line over the clean from in the boat to insure you have a hold on the dock before you jump off. not to mention it would be immensely faster and you wont be holding up the dock as long.

Excellent work demonstrating Yamaha's industrial design philosophy. Have you towed it up to Tahoe yet, those superchargers will be nice at altitude. Just a heads up, I replaced the Fulton XLT winch with a Fulton F2 2-speed winch and it made a world of difference at my local ramp (Lake Nacimiento). What dealer did you use in LV, thinking about the same ride as I don't currently have a Yamaha.

Just about to buy a 275SDX --- notice you tow without a weight distribution hitch (full boat + trailer is 7000+) -- any issues?
@tiverton Жыл бұрын
No issues. My truck's maximum towing with bumper hitch is 22,000 lb.(32,000 lb) with 5th wheel hitch. I would definitely use a weight distribution hitch if towing with a quarter-ton truck.
@tiverton Жыл бұрын
By the way, I checked with the Yamaha dealer if I could have the "X" added to my "SD". They said that it is possible, but would cost about $15,000. Seems a bit much. I'll just dock the old fashioned way. If I was buying a new boat today though, I would definitely go for SDX version. Nice pick!.
@JimMedeirosRaleigh Жыл бұрын
@@tiverton What model is your truck -- I did not see a 5th wheel hitch mechanism in the video. I'll be using an F-150
@tiverton Жыл бұрын
@@JimMedeirosRaleigh Ram 3500. I install the 5th wheel hitch only when we tow our camper. The hitch I use in the video to tow the boat is rated to 20,000 lbs. The truck itself is rated to 22,000. The boat with fuel and trailer weighs around 8,600 lbs. I'll put it on the scale next month to get exact weight. F150 has a much softer rear suspension (and a much better ride) so you would need to look into a weight distribution hitch to make sure you reduce the downforce on rear suspension. Too much weight on rear suspension will reduce truck's steering authority, increase the chance of jack-knifing during heavy breaking and negatively affect overall towing comfort. It will also reduce the trailer sway.

@PTRRanger951 Жыл бұрын
@@chevy4x466it’s possible. But those plates wouldn’t look that good for being 40 years old. In Nevada, plates are kept with the RO and put on a new vehicle, they don’t stay with the vehicle like in CA. If you sell your vehicle you take the plates off, and either transfer them to a new vehicle, or returned to the DMV. And I say they wouldn’t look good for being 40 years old is because that style was originally issued then. An owner can still keep using them if they are still in good condition. His are the new issue replica ones that came out about 2 years ago. The originals were issues in 1982. So he has brand new plates for the truck, with that it would be impossible for them to be expired for only more than a year at that time. But yes, a new truck can have 20+ year expired plates.

Those engines can suck up a baseball sized rock from 6' deep. You used way too much throttle for that shallow. My method is to back up the trailer so the boat floats off and use the lines to bring her to the dock. Power loading and power unloading is NOT the way to launch and retrieve a vessel.

First of all, great video and your boat and truck are both beautiful. However, this feels like a huge hassle to have to go through all this to get on the water. You have a 250K rig, so clearly you’re not pressed for cash. Why not just keep it at a marina or in dry storage where they drop it in the water whenever you’re ready?
@tiverton2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I prefer not to keep the boat in the water permanently if I don't have to. It is not a hassle for me to tow. This is the smallest trailer I have.
