I passed three months ago and bought the tracer 7 2021 GT straight out of the show room. And i must say agree with all your comments. @@mancunianboy2576 Ha ha! Yep, I passed my test in February at the age of 56 and bought myself a Tracer 7 as my first bike, too. I can wholeheartedly vouch for Yorkshire Biker’s comments. It’s a great first choice - it’s no slouch but also so easy to get on with, it’s not going to throw you off, yet there seems to be plenty of room to grow as skills and experience develop - you won’t be trading up after six months. I just hope younger Tracer 7 owners reading this don’t think they’ve bought an old farts’ bike, it certainly isn’t!

I've been riding on and off for over 30 years. I bought a new Tracer 7 end of last year. I absolutely love the looks, slight "prototype" look about it. I think its fab. Performance wise, on UK roads you don't need any more. It will do a genuine 120mph, accelerates hard to 90mph but in a manner that dose not scare the s**t out of you. Loads of torque for overtaking. I have just come back from a long weekend, 500 miles around Wales, no complaints at all. The bike will take on the twistys, its light, economical and great fun to ride. You just can't go wrong with the Tracer 7. The screen isn't the greatest but does suit the styling and the adjustment does make a difference depending on the roads you are riding and how strong the wind is. Overall, one of the best bikes i have ever had :) Its a keeper. Looking forward to your comparison Andy.

Scrolling down the comments I noticed quite a few new riders have chosen the T7. What a cracking first bike it makes. The combination of a great engine, light weight and decent handling (plus great riding position for seeing over traffic) makes it an ideal choice. The engine's flat torque curve is brilliant in that if you find yourself in the wrong gear, simply rolllng on the throttle will easily get you out of trouble.

Hi, one thing I find missing on some reviews is the max loading weight of these bikes that are all rounders. I found it in the owners manual, 181Kg on top of wet weight. I do a lot of 2 up riding with some kit and this would be a nice addition to the reviews as some bikes can be ruled out instantly because I'm too fat.....

Last year, I got myself this bike. It is really good. Did not love the front at first (looked a bit very modern to me), but it really grew on me. Now I love that it is simply different. I love how it rides, only that I prefer to go a bit faster because it is so well balanced, particularly in the twisties. (never felt that urge before). Modified mine a bit though - handlebar risers, put the heated seat cover from the previous model on the seat shell of this one (deconstructed the "comfort" seat - cannot recommend this one, just stick with the standard seat), works great. I got the fancy touring boxes with the GT package. Exchanged these with my square 45 ltr Givis, which look surprisingly good (I can remove all of the racks, so the nice backside can be revealed very easily). The only item that is left from the 2020 GT package is the taller screen, which I recommend (but you can get this on it's own, no need to buy the GT package). Oh, and I had heated grips installed. These are very useful indeed.

I'm just back from a trip from Bavaria to Greece. No issues at all over 4400 km. The standard seat and suspension is quite good for me and my 72 Kg and 5 foot 6, even on bad Albanian and Greek roads. Buy, drive, enjoy. In my garage is still my MT-07 with 98.000 km on the clock. So I know that I can trust the engine. The only thing i modified by my own was the windscreen. I shortened it in the height 3,5 cm and at each side 2,5 cm. So it's much calmer, no turbulence, air comes through my chin vent. It's much better in hot countries, in Greece we had 37 Celsius. At the highest position the protection ist still very good with my height.
@veljkovic92 Жыл бұрын
Hey. How do you compare MT07 with Tracer 7?
@breezeontheroadtonowhere6562 Жыл бұрын
@@veljkovic92 The base is almost identical. Roughly speaking, the Tracer is of course more comfortable on long journeys, although I have also undertaken long journeys on the MT with a small windshield. However, I also improved the seat on the MT-07. The Tracer7 clearly has the better suspension. I have no complaints about the fork. The rear shock absorber also works satisfactorily. With the MT I had to switch to Wilbers. In my opinion, both bikes are intended for one person, although on the Tracer7 you can of course take someone with you more comfortably. However, I would not want to travel with the Tracer7 as a couple. If you just want to have fun in the Alps, I would prefer the MT and maybe improve it a bit technically. Due to the different sitting position, maybe even lower handlebars, it is more agile to move. There is also enough travel equipment for the MT to go on tour for 14 days. Best regards

I've had a Tracer 7 GT for three years and still struggle to find fault with it. I have the benefit of the touring screen and seat to address the two 'weaknesses' of the standard bike. I think it's great for both one-up touring, or more enthusiastic riding, and can't really criticize it at all. The CP2 engine is a lovely, characterful unit, and I've never felt short of power. Build quality is good, after 3 years and 13k miles the bike still looks great, albeit I'm not a keen winter rider. Personally I'm with you and love the looks. It's a keeper!

It’s looks great in that colour ,got proper right way up forks ,standard controls with only ABS added ,nice 2 cylinder engine with more than adequate power & good LCD readout screen . The only negative I can find is that windshield ,which no doubt can be easily sorted with after market ones that will no doubt be available in time . I can see these being very popular you can’t really go wrong with a Japanese logo ,no matter where produced . All in all a no nonsense do almost all reasonably priced motorcycle Mr Flyer & good review 👍

I collected mine Tracer 7 GT 2022 just 2 weeks ago. Just passed my licence last month - it is my first ever bike and it is really nice. I do like it, especially the look. I have done 550 miles so far. I have booked it for 600 miles service next Saturday. So far as a new rider I took it easy and of course for the first 600 miles they do not recommend to go over 5000 rpms, 70mp/h is exactly 5000 rpms on this bike. As a tall 6.1ft person I have to admin that the wind is very noticeable on my head. It is nice and tall so you can see over cars, I do like it a lot to ride in towns. Not so much on a faster roads but as a new rider I think I need to learn how to ride fast. The top speed I was doing was about 80mph for a few moments and right now I am not sure I liked it - lol, everything was a bit shaky 🤣but like I said I am new rider and still plenty to work on.

You don't need to learn to ride fast. 🙂 There's time to do that once you have developed your safety buffer and alertness to other road users as am exposed rider. Just take it easy while you practice. Have fun.
@jag1970s2 жыл бұрын
A very good choice. I had the Tracer 9 last year and you wouldn’t want that - it really wanted me to go 10mph faster than I wanted to in every situation, and I’ve been riding a long time. This looks exceptional value the right kind of practical and something to quicken the pulse at times too. Just way better than what was available even 10 years ago for this style of bike. My first big bike was a zr750s, which wasn’t bad but this would be better in pretty much every way possible. Ditto what Steve says - learn to be as smooth a rider as you can before you even think about going faster, and I would also say that I get more confidence from being able to ride slow than fast - even though I have been riding big bikes for 25 years the thing I keep doing is taking it to a quiet road and practicing my u turns. You never stop learning. Most of the fun on a bike is to be had between 30 and 60 on nice twisty roads with good views, not faster. As I often tell myself, the slowest journey is the one that goes via A&E. Best of luck to you and welcome to the pack!
@arccon822 жыл бұрын
@@jag1970s I noticed that too. I much prefer nice and steady ride up to 60mph or even town speeds than when I was going 70 - 80mph on a dual carriageway A road. My biggest concern are cars sitting very closely on my back and sort of pushing me to go faster. I need to learn how to "ignore" them and just do my ride.

The riding position is fantastic, I'm 6'1 and can easily go all day, including brew and toilet stops, obviously! I've got the 2020 model as my first bike and I love it. The thing I'd add is that the top box rack is more or less mandatory, without it the bike just looks unfinished. Deciding between it and the Tiger Sport 660 I can't say it made the decision for me but it makes me happy every time I see it without the top box. More brands should make their rear carriers look good. Really comfy, even for me at 6' 4" once I fitted some bar risers and tweaked the handles. Original screen is naff (replaced by a touring screen) and Yamaha OEM panniers are horribly overpriced for what they are. Would like a remote pre-load adjuster for the shock but so far, for me, its all the bike I want. Limiting factor for those who ride with a pillion: The max load is 188kg, the drawback of such a lightweight bike I guess. Not an issue for me (my pillion is 35-40 kg) but if you're a bigger rider and the spouse enjoys a pie or two it might be better to look at another bike for those weekends away.

I have the 2021 version with touring screen and standard seat, so, long therm user here. * I don't know about the comfort seat but the standard seat becomes uncomfortable after about 2-3 hours of total ride. Resting may help but your ass will start to feel sore immediately even after 30 mins break. * Touring screen is a must have if you gonna do long tours. It does ok job but much much better than standart one anyway. * No touring bike should be sold without cruise control. T7 does not have it and it's a big con if you ask me. * Rear suspension is on a little hard side for touring. Little more towards to sporty side and you cant adjust it. * Engine is fun. I love it`s sound but it's not very smooth at low RPMs. Especially Jerky at the first throttle. * It`s agile and fast. It`s slim profile will help in traffic hugely. And cornering is fun. It`s a very good bike for short travels like weekend tours. Its raw form provides great fun on the street and twisty roads. But lack of cruise control, comfortable seat and suspension makes long tours little less fun sometimes.

I agree it is a nice looking bike particularly the front with the headlights and day time lights.

in broad terms I'm not a fan of Yamaha (for no logical reason....) but from time to time they make a machine that I take a shine to. This is one of them. But now a days I have a soft spot for Standard Bikes. They just excel at day to day riding.

Thanks Andy for the quick first impressions vid 👍. I remember you doing a review of the original Tracer 700 - a bike which I actually bought. It was a little bit tall for me but so light that I managed easily and confidently. A surprisingly good two-up bike too. The only thing it needed was a better shock - the standard one lacked damping so the bike could get a bit out of shape on mid-corner ruts and potholes. I didn't keep it in the end but that's a long story and was actually nothing to do with the bike. The engine remains one of my favourites of all time. I'm looking forward to the longer "living with" version of the review and it's inevitable comparison with the Tiger 660 Sport. I must say, the styling is vastly improved compared to my "Mk1"

I bought one of these a couple of months back. My main bike is a KTM1290SAS but I wanted something as an alternative, something smaller, lighter, more manageable that I could 'toof toof' around on (that is probably not being fair because it has plenty of power really). I considered the Tiger 660 but by the time I had specc'd it, I was looking at over £10k which I didn't want to spend on a 2nd bike (6th actually). I found I could get a Tracer 700 (same as this) for £7099 OTR which was a significant saving but actually settled for a year old bike with less than 4,000 miles and loads of accessories (inc full shad luggage) for £5,900. I recently took it on a 3 week trip to Portugal and Brittany and I have to say it was great. I took an air hawk because I don't find the comfort seat actually very comfortable. I have a bad knee and would have preferred my legs less bent, though I'm sure it's fine if you're younger and fitter. I really enjoyed the lightness and manoeuvrability though, not having to worry about road camber or surface when stopping etc. I also averaged well over 70mpg on premium fuel which gave me a range of over 240 mile. One thing to be wary of though, as I got on the boat at Calais, the fuel light started flashing. When I got off the ferry, it wasn't flashing. I then road the bike for a further 25 miles or so without the light flashing and then it started spluttering. Luckily, I was nearly home and knew I was only a mile or so from a garage so no drama but just be aware that the fuel light may start flashing, then stop but won't start again so fill up within 20 miles or you'll be pushing.

Enjoyed the review Andy, I suppose the engine is the same unit they use in the Tenere 700, for which it receives a lot of praise. It does look a smart little bike, I had a Tracer 900 for about a year and I thought that was a really good bike, Yamaha do some lovely machines these days, mind you all bikes are lovely, just can't beat two wheels. Thank you.

How tall are you rideing Tracer 7? I'm 183 and it seems kind of small for me, I feel kind of squished on it. I had the opportunity to drive it is fast, light, agile, but it seemed to be a bit too small for me. As far as power is concerned, CP2 is more than enough.

What a refreshingly unpretentious bike, that just gets on with it and looks smart. Didn't think they made those any more! :)

The cb500x is probably just as good if not a little slower. In the UK the road tax is a fair bit less. As is probably the insurance. Bloody £101 road tax now for 600cc>

I’m upset. This bike is gorgeous, has my favorite engine, and it’s red. I don’t know what Yamaha is thinking not selling this bike in the states. I don’t think they realize how many riders would buy one IMMEDIATELY if they became available over here. :( I’m glad at least half of us get to enjoy the bike though! 😂

I demoed both the Tracer and Tenere 700s 18 months back and concluded that the Tenere was well worth the £1000 extra for it's greater versatility. If I'd only had £5k to spend I'd have been dead happy with a good used early Tracer but being in the fortunate position of being able to afford more the Tenere looked far better value new.
@PhilipBallGarry2 жыл бұрын
I too have preferred the Tenere since it's launch but like many bikes in it's class too tall for me - sadly.

What a cracking Swiss army knife of a bike the Tracer 7 has become. For 95% of jobs it'll do just fine but sometimes you want/need a full size Multi-tool for those bigger jobs. The Tracer 9 could be that Multi-tool.

Strongly considered this bike, but went for the 660 Tiger instead, little bit better equipped in terms of electronics and more exciting engine in my opinion. Tracer still a great 'all round' option though.

Currently converting a brand new one into an ADV bike, somewhere between the Tracer 7 and the Tenere, 19/17" wire wheels...got a little hassle between the Arrow de-cat headers and the sump bash plate! Need to fabricate something! Yamaha's missing link, a fireroad bike!

You need a complaint, they don't sell these in the States. I don't know why. Been riding for decades and looking for something in this size and style. Closest Triumph dealer is 2 hours away so that kills the 660 for service. Not crazy about the Versys, was thinking 2022 CB500X, not as much power but if I want to go fast I have a different bike for that, but the Tracer 7 would fit so well. I'll stop the ramble, as always a quality video, right down to the fine print.

I`ve said rather a lot of latw that Yamaha are probably the most exciting Japanes bikes, and they make a lot of real world bikes. Not only are they real world, but they look really good to, closely followed by Kawasaki. A good friend of mine had an MT07 for a couple of years before he traded it for a Speed Triple, it was a great little bike, and sounded amazing with an SC Project pipe, something i think would be the same on this machine.

Although I have a 2yr old Mk1, the Mk2 isn't that much of an improvement when I test rode it. Ive added TEC fork springs on mine as they were non-adjustable, nice to see the Mk2 has adjustable front forks. Still my Mk1 has never missed a beat and the Mk2 is a natural replacement I would recommend. The paint is a little thin on mine in places, doesn't wear well, but as you pointed out, its an all round bike and relatively keenly priced.

I simply LOVE my new Tracer 7! OK, admittedly it’s my first bike after getting my licence, so I’ve nothing to compare it to other than the faithful Kawasaki ER6Ns used by the training school, but it is just so spot-on perfect for what I want: high but upright seating position, good level of comfort, looks FANTASTIC in the matt ‘tech kamo’ colour and, of course, has a fair bit of ‘poke’ ;-) The thing is though, it’s not the bike I imagined choosing as my first bike - even chatting at the debrief after my Mod2 pass I was adamant I’d get a dripping-with-chrome Bonneville, Moto Guzzi, or similar. My trainer pulled a bit of a face, suggesting the NC750 or Tracer 700 as great first bikes. I think I then pulled a bit of a face. Fast-forward a week and I’m at my local Triumph dealership having my preconceptions blown away - I wasn’t keen on the low office-chair seating position and flat bench seat, and availability meant I’d be on my 125 for most of summer. All a bit disappointing and demoralising. Then I saw a pic of Yamaha’s awesome 2022 RD350-styled XSR700, arranged a test ride on a 2021 demonstrator but then, thinking back to my trainer’s recommendation, dropped in a test ride on a 2022 Tracer 7 in the fore-mentioned tech kamo. Total game changer - just fell in love with the look, the ride, the comfort, everything! I’ve had my Tracer 7 for a month now and it still has that open-the-garage-door wow factor! ❤️ I’d still like a sparkly old classic one day, but it will be a second bike, the Tracer 7 is a keeper!!!
