Join us in Glen Affric where we see in the New Year and enjoy some good food, cooked on the wood stove and open fire. The video contains some nice canoe footage and is generally dialogue 'heavy', as we sit by the stove chatting and reminiscing to pass the long winter nights.

Happy New Year. Mo and I occasionally have a competition to see who is most proficient with the chopsticks. Her cultural heritage gives her an advantage but my eagerness to eat sometimes wins the day. However, using chopsticks with gloved hands is a whole new game, and one I've yet to master. Well spotted. A very Happy New Year to you both! This was a gorgeous video. I loved the loch vistas. The reflections on the loch were spectacular. Like a mirror. I will have to attempt to capture the scene in my painting. I took a screen shot. Mo, you are a great videographer. Be well friends and always keep the blue side up!

Good morning, Gary. Happy New Year to you and the family. The reflections on the loch were just marvellous and the moodiness of the misty day was magical. It is such a lovely spot. I agree with you on Mo’s videography. I’d love to see some of your paintings. I wonder if you plan an exhibition? Keep the blue side up. Dave and Mo

Fantastic Dave... seems like only yesterday we were watching last years hot tent 'tomahawk' camping adventure - what a fantastic shot of the perfectly still reflections in the loch when you were readying the boat.. arguably one of the best scenes I've seen on youtube this year! Hi Tom, happy new year to you guys. I have to catch up on your Strath Ossian vid. I was hoping you had managed to get out and enjoy the break in the weather. Our entire trip was characterised by flat calm conditions, which gave us such wonderful reflections. The misty, snowy day was eerily quiet and very peaceful. My old Duster was playing up a bit though, proving difficult to start in the cold. It goes in next week for a service, MOT and some new glow plugs! ATB, Dave and Mo

What a beautiful place to spend new year. I can sympathise with Mo concerning your singing, my husband is just the same. He thinks he can sing inside his head but he certainly can’t when singing aloud! Another enjoyable video.

Hi Jennifer, yes, Glen Affric is a bonnie location to see in the new year. We enjoyed complete solitude throughout our trip. I've never been able to sing and didn't make the cut for the primary school choir, nor did I show any aptitude for musical instruments. I do love music though and, like your husband, am happy singing away to myself. As I've said to Mo, I don't have a problem with my singing, its the audience that has the problem with it :) Hope all is well with you. ATB, Dave

Hi Jacqueline, you made us smile. Happy new year to you too, and happy easter. We're just back from an overnight camp on Lismore. I took the cameras along and captured a few moments, which I'll upload next week. It was a fishing trip and I know some viewers are not so keen on that type of video, so it will be a short film with a glimpse or two of Loch Linnhe. Trust all is well with you. ATB, Dave

@@daveoutdoorsscotland2854 oh that sounds fantastic. We were on Lismore a couple of years ago, just a day trip from our stop in Onich but what a beautifully serene isle it is. I’m no fisherman but I love your insight and I’m a great fish eater I’m afraid - just too lazy or ignorant to go out and catch said meal! Always good to hear your tales and your experience. For me, whatever the content, I say just keep ‘em coming……I catch up with them all …..eventually haha! Happy Easter to you both - if I’m not careful I’ll send that on time!

Hi Dave and Mo. Thank you for the lovely family outdoors adventure tale. I thought I would like to leave a comment that was some explanation and news from me as it relates to being a subscriber. Over the last 6 months I have stopped viewing many of the UK hill and mountain channels I was following regularly. This is because 6 months ago I developed suddenly a totally new severe back pain that put a total stop to my climbing. The NHS thought this pain might be climbing injury. But I believed it was a sympton of prostate cancer. And indeed last week I received my first diagnosis of prostate cancer. I therefore believe but do not know I am right about the source of the ongoing back pain also. Since this onset I am very unreliable in my hill climbing channel support, dropping in here and there. On one level viewing is hard because suddenly I cannot do these actvities, on another watching others carry on in this most human of activity is mature, honest and the way it should be. So I may be dropping in again or not. I cannot say. But irrespective my good wishes to you both in your Scotland hill and climbing life . Respects. JMO.

I am so very sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Mo and I send our heartfelt best wishes to you for a speedy recovery. I've greatly enjoyed reading your comments and interacting with you through the channel. I don't have any great words of wisdom to offer, but be assured, we will be thinking of you and, of course, your family. I completely understand that your focus for the immediate future will be on getting better. I know from past comments that the hills exist deep in your psyche and hold many memories. You can reflect on these cherished memories, until you are able to get back out and continue your exploration of wild Scotland. In truth, we have all had periods in our lives where the hills and wilderness has been just that wee bit beyond our grasp. I'll be thinking of you. All my very best, Dave

Your tale about Hogmanay reminded me of my Vango Mark 2 Force Ten tent. Mine had a nylon outer and I had it for many years before I bit the bullet and bought a real lightweight tent. They were heavy things! I also had the Mark 3 version as well, and my first camp in Scotland was on the Great Moss in the Cairngorms, where I camped near to the summit of Mullach Clach a’Blair for 3 nights one Whitsuntide. I had a cloud inversion for the duration and climbed all of the principal hills on that side of the Larig. That trip planted so many seeds for me, and I fell in love with Scotland. Thanks for sharing.
@daveoutdoorsscotland2854
@daveoutdoorsscotland2854 Жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, yes, the Vango Mk2 was a heavy tent. I had the canvas fly version, in green, which eventually faded to a creamy-white colour. I loved that wee tent. I still have a Vango, a Mk 5, which is essentially a base-camp tent. I sometimes use it in conjunction with the canoe, but it is certainly too heavy to carry any distance. I Know the area where you camped. It is a great part of the Cairngorms. I should try to get back there and do some more filming. ATB, Dave

@daveoutdoorsscotland2854 Жыл бұрын
Hi John, hope you get the van finished off and manage a trip to Scotland this year. Glen Affric is such a lovely area, summer and winter, and there are plenty of hills, low level walks and mountain bike routes to keep you busy. There is also a camp site in Cannich, if you fancy some amenities. The neighbouring glens are also worthy of exploration (and can often be quieter in the summer months), Mo and I have been fortunate with our winter trips to the glen, always managing to get to a decent spot to camp and then get back to the road.
