2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Review: Tonale updates for Alfa's big SUV

Just traded my x5 BMW for the Stelvio Veloce……& there’s absolutely no comparison. The Alfa is so much more engaging & fun to drive, whereas the BMW (…..like Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Mercedes GLB are all boring appliances). The only legitimate comparison is the Mecan but you have to pay 40% more for the same performance/equipment & it simply isn’t worth it. My other car is a Lotus Evora 400 & only the Stelvio steering doesn’t make you completely disappointed to be driving an SUV!

I had plans to buy a Macan GTS and then discovered the Stelvio which was 3 years newer and 25K cheaper so perfect for me, I'm a very happy man.

You can’t compare all under one segment( as family suv and fast to drive ) though I love the channel - most of the time : your comparisons are inaccurate. People don’t buy Alfa to drive to Aldi, like don’t buy a chanel dress to Wagamama. Please make your comparisons relevant. It’s a car for passion - your review completely misses the point that this a car for the passionate.

If you don't care about practicality, why even bother with an SUV in the first place? There are plenty of mid-engined sports cars out there if driving passion is your main criteria for judging a car. Hell, it doesn't even offer a manual... how is that 'passionate'?

Had our Stelvio over one year now and have never got it to 27mpg. It around 22mpg. But such good fun to drive!

the best looking SUV is AR Stelvio. Fantastic and will always be fantastic. But comfort....

firstly it's not a family-type SUV, not the purpose not the target. Yes, Q5 has bigger boot, but so what? It's not car addressed for those looking for huge boot. It's a stupid idea to compare completely different cars with the same criteria. Fish is not as good climber as let's say squirrel even if they are similar size, but probably swims better

@@danmccarthy4700 Stelvio is practical enough for most people, and no, the boot size is not main point of buying SUV. Multipla is probably more practical than any SUV and yet is gone. I'd argue that Stelvio is actually The SUV. Sport, utility vehicle in this order. Q5 is not. Not to mention that it looks much better.

This is probably the most negative review of a Stelvio I have ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot, as it’s definitely on my list for a new “sporty” suv! I feel like the experience was lost on her.

Rebbeca is obviously a very perceptive reviewer. I have owned a Stelvio for 8 months now, and pay attention to any motoring journo who notices its subtle foibles and doesnt just copy-and-paste the tired Alfa tropes. Ollie KEw at Top Gear Mag is the only other to hit all the nails on their heads. Yes, the steering is fidgety, no other word for it, and no need for that in a family car. The ride is poor too on anything except a perfect surface. The rear boot is tiny and the daft subwoofer eats up a huge amount of space. Worst of all is the lack of steering wheel rake and reach, which means the driving position is just plain wrong, an amazing mistake by Alfa - sure you should be able to have the "Italian Ape" classic setting, but in this day and age there should be other options! I still love mine but the faults are never far away.

I had a Nero Edizone edition and I loved it to bits. There were problems.........the build quality and materials used inside were poor at best. The dealer network is tiny and here just outside of Glasgow, all I had was Arnold Clark to deal with and that was the end for me, they are an utter disgrace in every single way to deal with. I got rid of it and even though there were mamy issues with materials, build quality and electrics, im still gutted!!!!

@@Kingdonnerkebab thats the very dealership I had issues with. They are disgusting, it was ok when Lexus in Tradeston still had the contract for servicing and warranty work but thats now gone. Such a shame.

That rear light seal has gone, noticed the condensation in the unit. I love Alfas and hope this isn’t a common fault with this model.

Its not a sealed unit and thus will get condensation

I looked at these and the guilia few months ago.for what you get compared to other cars i just couldnt justify the cost.if they were alittle cheaper i think theyd sell so much more and build as a brand.Also the dealer was pushing for me to buy one on lease for some reason.Anyway love there cars just not the price .

Love Alfisti but afraid my XC60 is a much better car, got a b4, on a 200mile run at 65mph, 57mpg so sorry Alfa you look great but out of sync now 28 mpg and the deprecation would not make me change from Sweden to Italia.
