The only saving grace the Phoenix metropolitan area has against the dog/wolves are the Apache reservations. The original population of wolves placed in Arizona for this Bruce Babbitt vendetta, were over 90% dog The Feds were culling the pups that didn't look like wolves, which was the majority. Training these wolves included drugging cow elk in pens, chaining goats to trees and killing game animals to feed the dog/wolves. All of which have been witnessed or acknowledged by the Feds. The designated area for the wolf is between I-10 and I-40 completely across the state. Currently, and since the start of the program, two of the most prolific deer and elk units in Arizona have decreased their tags to a small percentage of what they once were. Unit 27 is under 16% of the deer tags once issued for that unit. Unlimited archery deer tags have been replaced with a kill quota of 55 mule deer and 50 white tail which also includes Unit 28. Anyone that spent any time hunting unit 27 in the 80s and very early 90s can see the lack of game throughout that unit. The wolves are now on the San Carlos reservation border and the Gila river.
