Once I was complaining about 200 dollars shoes, now 160 euros tyres looks like a cheap solution for my bycicle. I still wonder if the all cycling market is under drug or all the components really value that much. I just know my google search is going more and more in Aliexpress... One day I already know I'll give it a try. I consider myself above average moneywise in Europe. I have no children, no family and I am an airline pilot. Still, 6000 euros is a lot for something that is so fragile everytime you use it. Help meeee

The explosion of the cost of 105 has to be the biggest cock up to come out of cycling in 2022. In my view, this will set the growth of cycling (the attraction of newcomers looking to buy a bike for whatever motivational reason they may have) right back on its haunches. No longer can someone walk into a shop to buy the "I want to get into cycling, but I don't want to spend a heap of money" first bike. All of a sudden, the $2000 option has become $4 or 5,000. Unless that person opts for a pos Clara group. All of a sudden, when lined up beside the cost of living in general, buying a pair of joggers, or spending $40 a week at the gym becomes a very viable fitness and mental release option. Just my thoughts, but cycling really has now become the exclusive domain of the upper middle to high income set.
@Fordworldrallyfan2 жыл бұрын
More like the lower UPPER class 'income set'. 😉☹😡 When not even all that great (considering all of their problems, extraneous noises, etc.) rides out there can co$t $20K+ USD, it has gotten TOTALLY out of control, and yes, WILL kill the sport as a choice for those seeking fitness, unless they love the 'rolling Rolex/Patek Phillipe' status show-off aspect, or just cannot do said running or gym workouts due to injuries/etc.
@AdamEwart2 жыл бұрын
@@Fordworldrallyfan my issue is how the elite bicycle pricing will affect the grassroots, Kmart type bikes. How long before your $400 Repco becomes $700 or 900?? Like anything, stuff just gets more expensive, but it seems to me, bicycles are on a whole different curve entirely...

@ArbitraryInfluence the situations at the department stores you speak of is exactly what I'd meant with regards garden variety family/kid bikes. My reference to doubling in price was more aimed at the extra cost in owning the new 105. The inference being, where you had the option of Di2 in Ultegra/DA, 105 was always the very affordable option on a reasonable frame. Now 105 is worth three times the price, the cost of that affordable bike has just blown right out.

Interesting video. I'm beginning to suspect that the marketing people who work for major bike brands don't actually know their market very well. I've been looking for a new endurance road bike lately, but have noticed that my 3-year old, alloy, completely suspension-free gravel bike with road wheels & tyres is about the same weight and rides more like a proper road bike than most of the newer endurance road bikes I've been looking at. For the moment, I've pretty much decided to just keep using this one as my go-to "road bike" and replace components as needed.

I haven't gotten a new road bike since 2018 ha ha ha 🤣 I don't like disc . I did get cyclocross bikes but no road 🛣️ I don't like the idea that they had to rebuild bikes around the brake system.. It's as if you had a brake system and you wanted to create a bicycle around it. That's exactly what they did. So they needed to make the fork much stronger. The frame much stronger which added weight They needed to widen the rims widen the frame to allow for a wider foot pad because the system is too strong where it's placed. The centrical force is too much so you need a wider foot pad for it to work or it will slip.. They knew this and this is why they had to create a whole new bicycle because they wanted to push disc break These are not road bikes. They're basically gravel aerobikes.. I don't understand why they don't give us the option. Because they know that the consumers just going to choose the rim brake over the disc brake because that's exactly what was happening when they had both.. I saw this first hand because my friend has a bike shop so I saw who was buying what..

Consumers need to put their foot down and say no to bicycles that cost as much as a decent used car. I don't have a team sponsor that will foot the bill for a $10K plus bike.

@@Unwavering137 I like carbon rims they don't bend . I like the way they stop. I feel you have way more control over the bike with brakes that don't stop that good. The harder you squeeze, the more the bike will stop. I have electronic shifting and it works really good but charging i forget . Mechanical shifting is good no need to spend more unless you just like to have the best I guess.

@@Unwavering137 A good deal of these current bikes co$t MORE THAN I paid for a NEW (performance hatchback) car not even six years ago!! 👎👎😡

I don't get how or why people think its always better to invest in lighter bikes, higher end groupsets, etc etc. As if the tool will make you faster. Perhaps all that money could be spent investing in their base fitness and eating well and then they wouldn't need to compensate for poor fitness with a $15,000 featherweight bike.

How bout Gusto Bike they are cheap, they had their sponsor pro con team and seems quite popular in Japan. I can’t find any review or wat ever for this brand.

Boycott and tank the market. Buy from the private sellers if you need anything. Show big Corp the consumers can still be in command.

3000$ for 105?? I could go online and buy 105 di2 for 1250€ right now. I think that price is quite fair, although i would appreciate it being just 1000€ in the future.

Yup. Just bought a 2023 Cervelo S5. It is a significant refresh and excellent performance aero bike. Check it out on my video.

I think we should stop saying "invest" when we really mean "spend". You're not going to earn a dime selling your 1 yo Dogma.

Just cross out Scott with how bad their distributor is in Australia 👎. Nothing against the shops, just the distributor

Your mid-range assessment is completely off. IMO, a non racer... group rider... or soloist has a plethora of options that still provide a ton of value, given the current state of the industry. There are lots of SRAM Rival, Ultegra and 105 builds that fit the bill quite perfectly. Although I doubt your subscribers take your word as gospel, it should be mentioned your upload is a very narrow minded opinion.

Good thing I bought a few backup 10 and 11spd groupsets before this shit show of innovation that is electric hydro disc crap. It's not that it doesn't work well, but rather they are expensive, complicated and disposable.
