Wow never thought a BMW would be this efficient! But the caveat is that you need to be on efficient mode the whole time and your test was pretty much 99% highway speed at 72-73 mph. So that efficient mode really does make a difference it seems.

German cars in my experience over perform on the highway. Mine is rated for 32 and I’ll get 32-33 at 85-90mph on long trips.

That's insanely efficient! Although it runs on premium fuel, you'd be surprised how efficient it is for equivalent regular gas. 43 MPG = 5.47 L/100km. Covering 100 km, 2023 BMW X1 consumes 5.47 L premium fuel, which is equivalent to 5.47*1.33 = 7.28 L regular fuel. So that's 7.28 L/100km = 32.3 MPG. Therefore, you should be 32.3 MPG on regular gas to have the equal cost of this BMW X1 on premium gas.

@@Eugen-E I only got 39 mpg this past winter in the city I live. I'm sure terrains and other factors come into play too. I did get 53 mpg or higher when I visited other cities as well. The point is just 43 mpg for a pure ICE luxury car that required premium gas is impressive.

@@tant.5864 If you drive short distances the Prius keeps the engine alive to warm up + to heat the cabin. But you get worse economy in winter in any car. Yeah this bmw has very good fuel economy. But i think it is mild hybrid.

@@tant.5864 You were surprised the Prius is not that fuel efficient in cold weather. And i said that EVERY car is not efficient in cold weather. Yeah it is. It's mild hybrid. Check the technical specifications. It has a 48V mild hybrid system with a 14kW electric motor.

But it takes premium.... automatically a 33% extra cost. So that 43mpg is equivalent to 28mpg on regular... not worth it

For a BMW SUV at 28MPG on regular gas, that's still pretty solid. Definitely more fun than driving a CR-V as well.

premium is 5-7% more than regular... where do you get 33%?

@@mihneamunteanu8508 average gas based on gas buddy near me is 3.85/gal regular and 4.60 for premium. Thats 19.5% higher right now. 3 months ago it was much cheaper for regular fuel. Premium has not seen as much of an increase in cost
