@@Michelle-by9fpI either go with a coffee shop, where $5 or $10 is reasonable… or if it’s for a restaurant, you could do $15-$20 as a help with a meal out, not necessarily to pay for the entire meal. Also, you could add a like-new tree ornament (that you declutter) along with a small gift card… or pair the gift card with something you bake at Christmas time, a mini loaf of friendship bread, or a few cookie bars or brownies.. just brainstorming ❤

This year, instead of presents, we decided to hire a professional organizer to help us get rid of things and start the new year off on the right foot. We've even limited our budget for other people in order to prioritize our household for 1 year and pay for this. I've even asked my family if they wanted to forgo gifts for me and my husband and help to pay for our endeavor. It's a start.

Hubby and I have decided to have no presents this year. We are minimalists and really dont need anything. Our kids are grown up and spending it with their partners families. I've done years of hosting, cooking and present buying. This year is going to be amazing, pj's all day and a TV dinner, no Christmas shopping stress. I might even stay in bed all day watching you tube. Total bliss.😊

We did this last year for the first time. I did 25 years of having everyone from both families for breakfast. 24 people. Then had single relatives for Christmas dinner too. My circumstances changed and last year me and my two adult children decided to have Italian and stay in pjs all day! It’s was sooooo goood! 😂. Doing the same again this year!😊

My mom loves puzzles so I did an advent calendar for her where my family put together a 1,000 piece puzzle, then we divided it into 25 sections and put the pieces into little bags with numbered tags. Every day she puts together a section and adds it to the larger puzzle. She’s really enjoying it. I had seen one advertised but it was too expensive, so I diy’d it.

I budgeted and saved all year for Christmas gifts this year, but after many years of my husband trying to get me to do no gifts…I am finally giving in this Christmas. I was in tears at first, especially because I saved all year, but now I am seeing more freedom and joy in the Christmas season. We spoke to our children who are 18-23 and to our surprise were completely on board with this decision. One said, heck yeah I am down with that, and another said this is actually a gift in itself and decided to tell her in-laws that they are also choosing to do no gifts this year and the in-laws are following suit. That one surprised me. 😊 Our parents also respected our choice this year without any complaints. I am thinking we may have started a whole new tradition deeper and wider than we ever imagined.

When our two boys were littles, we limited their Christmas gifts to three a piece.🌲 Something they needed, something they wanted, and something small. I explained to them that the wise man gave the baby Jesus three gifts and that's why they were receiving three gifts.🎁 We also supported a Haitian child, so the boys got to pick out something special for him and we always did the Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoe Box. They really enjoyed shopping for others. To celebrate the baby Jesus' birth, we usually made a small birthday cake for him.🎂 They are grown men now with families of their own and they still think about others before themselves. Blessings everyone!💗

We can't really afford to give gifts, so I make cookies for family instead. They love them and I love baking and gift giving so it's a win-win! I've started giving people homemade canned jams for Christmas. It's affordable, consumable, and a surprise because no one expects a millennial to know how to can, haha. For our gifts, my husband and I asked loved ones for specific gift cards to help pay for date nights and babysitters. We already have everything we want and need, but offsetting the cost of a regular night out during the toddler trench years is truly what we want. People actually seemed happy that we took all the guesswork out for them.

I am a cricket, but this year has been super simple because of life events. The funny thing that I wanted to share is that I carefully wrap several paper crafts that my kids made at very young ages. Think paper plates, traced hand prints on poster board with glitter, and macaroni noodles. It has been the utter horror of my kids when they see them on my tree. To explain their extreme disdain for these adorable treasures of mine, my kids are adults, ages 30 & 34! Lol. I love them and hope to have them on my tree as long as I live. ❤

Remember to check your local small businesses. A lot of them will have these gifts as well. Many have websites you can order through, for shipping or local pickup. Most bookstores can order any book you want within 1-2 weeks. If you're shopping for someone who lives far away, consider ordering from a store near them to save on shipping.

We have a tradition with our family that lives on the other side of our country (Canada) We send a box of little things that are locally made or bought for them to open at the beginning of December. Things you would get at craft markets or local vendors etc. It is really fun to see what is in the box and the kids love the surprise better than another toy or trading money.

Playmobil and Lego are also incredible and stand the test of time. My daughter also absolutely loved Snap Circuts, all of which she played with for years. Another good option is when you look for a toy or game, to look for the ones which have a gold foil sticker, saying that they’ve won toy of the year awards. When I was in a pinch, I’ve bought those and have never been disappointed.

My parents bought 3 small gifts for me, and for my sister, to open on Christmas Eve...they 'represented' the 3 Wise Men. We opened them while my dad read the Infancy Narratives to us. On Christmas morning, "Jesus' friend, Santa" left 1 larger gift for us. Together, as a family, we offered special prayers for our military, our civil servants, and finally for our family & neighborhood. I truly have THE BEST Christmas memories! I'm now old...and have the joy of watching our sons continue these traditions. ♡

I’m all for Minimalist gift giving💕 I am also trying to be intentional about where I purchase gifts, for example if I can find toys on the Marketplace that are gently used why not help out a person? Also local artisans that are selling handmade goods, ex. pottery, soaps, wooden items such as Cutting boards, crocheted items. Yes, they may cost a little more but most of the time the quality is much better and you are helping out a neighbor. I appreciate Dawns support of Trades of Hope as well. We can make such a difference if we really think through our purchases. Love you all!❤

Our son-in-law also enjoys getting cash that he can use for hobbies and personal projects. Again presentation makes it fresh every year. Consider crisp bills as book marks in an appropriate book, or a money machine with bills taped end to end to pull through a slot in a box. 💜🐞

Love the list of items - especially for tweens. Regarding the kids camera, I decided not to give that one because of the Instant Print feature. The paper gets really costly to purchase after you have run through the sample amount they give you. Regarding men gifts, I will be giving a magnetic wristband for screws etc to my son, as he has started to do a lot of DIY around the home, and this ensures that he doesn't loose something or something falls onto the floor that he can't see, but the baby can - safety!

Also a book weight that keeps the pages open and the book laying flat on a desk. A vintage map of a meaningful place. True Classic tshirts. Some colorful shoelaces to jazz up his shoes. X3 bar travel workout system.

My sister decided, one year when her kids were still young, to not have gifts. Instead they donated money to a charity. The hospital gift shop where I worked had $5 beanie babies. I got one for each of my nieces and nephews. You would have thought I gave them the best thing ever.

Great suggestions. Cash and gift cards are my go-to these days. All my children are adults, and all the grandchildren are teens. I stopped using wrapping paper years ago. If I need wrapping for something, I only use gift bags. I only have neutral bags so they can be used on matter the occasion.

Your gift guides are the best. I’m getting my 9 year old musical/performer son the mini karaoke set. I might regret it by the end of the night on Christmas Day, but he will love it 😂

Great ideas!!! That tea is amazing!! My family loves that stuff! You can also wrap gifts in a reusable shopping bag. They are usually cheap, pretty and can be reused by the recipient.

My husband & don’t have any kids, and instead of buying gifts for each other, we just buy something for the house. One year we bought a dishwasher, one year a new furnace, etc. If we don’t have as much to spend that year, maybe something smaller like new sheets or towels (but get rid of the old ones). It is so much less stressful & we accomplish something we would need to do anyway as well.

My husband and I buy for our son but keep things really simple for each other because we just don't need anything. Some years we just fill each others stockings with consumable products (treats, toiletries, etc.) and that's it, while other years we will do maybe one or two gifts each. Sometimes I will just buy my own gift and wrap it and put it under the tree lol. For example, my husband needed slippers last year so I bought myself a pair as well. This year I bought him a few much needed shirts and that's it. I keep asking him what he wants but he just says he doesn't need anything or he will treat himself to a new book. We will do Christmas with extended family earlier in the month but it will be just the three of us for Christmas. We will enjoy watching our son open gifts, eat good food and just enjoy spending time together.

I’m new at Etsy, and I hesitate to put my Etsy shop link here, but if you are curious about the items that were “Minimal Mom” inspired, let me know! You are amazing and a blessing!

Thanks for the ideas! I was sitting outside of my daughter's preschool last week and one of her friends had a toddler-friendly digital camera. All the kids were super excited about it, taking turns posing and taking pictures with each other. I found them on Amazon for $30 and ordered six for all of the little kids I'm buying for this year. We're a big board game family so I think I'll be picking up Sequence for Kids for our 3 1/2 year old as well.

Got some great ideas from you today - thanks! Also, I use a Dollar Store magazine rack/notebook holder for my water bottles - they take up less space when stored vertically. And the gift bags - game changer! I work for a Christmas Families nonprofit and these will make gift wrapping go so much quicker for all the donated gifts we receive for those in need each year.

I would be totally fine with it. Camping and experiencing adventures together with our grown children and grandchildren throughout the year would be plenty! 😊 I had a hard time thinking of ideas on my list for our family Giftster list for the others to shop from for me. I did finally think of inexpensive items. But, I really want to downsize my hobby supplies. I told my husband that I'd like to consider no gifts between us, since we just added a new puppy to our household this past summer, (and a new to us pop up camper a few years ago!) I did lower my budget for everyone, and left more in savings. My Hubby will be getting a new shirt and a gift card for his Christmas Eve eve birthday, though. 😏

Even though you kinda of grumble about gift-giving; you always have one of the best gift guides. I love how you know your sister Diana so well and get her the perfect gift each year.❤😊 As for the guys; yes, they are so difficult to buy for. Some ideas would be to get them things that go along with their interests. For instance; if the are golfers, you could get them, golf balls, a golf kit, a new glove, tees, putting practice greens, etc. If they are into hiking: hiking boots, socks, backpack, a compass, hand crank radio/flashlight, etc. If the are into fishing: a new reel or pole, a basket for their catch or cooler or some outdoor cookware. I think you get the idea 😂 And last, but, not least- gift cards to their favorite restaurant, hobby place, golf range, etc.
